So, I've started watching My So-Called Life, and I'm enchanted. How is it that I've never been introduced to this rare gem of a teen show? I love how self-aware it is, thoughtful, and deliciously cringe-worthy in its realism and portrayal of the high-school experience.

Any fans here up for a discussion? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I used to watch it when it was first on. I loved it! Totally made me fall in love with Claire daines!

Same here. I will forgive her any poor career decisions purely because of this show.

Yeah, Claire is very talented!
I used to watch it with my little sister, and enjoyed it a lot. Now, what I remember is more fond glimpses than the story as a whole, so I don't know how much use I could possibly be in a discussion. I just wanted to chime in with some MSCL love.

Oh wow, feels like an eternity since I saw this show. I used to have such a crush on Jared Leto... not sure I'd dare to watch it again, I was really fond of it before... maybe it wouldn't live up to the memories...

I feel the same.
I watched it when I was very young but I couldn't remember anything about it apart from the character's faces. I bought the box set last year and I just couldn't get through it. If I'd picked it up again as a teenager I have a feeling I would have loved it, but at 23 it just felt...too sincere? I can't put my finger on it; once I had emerged from adolescence I had no desire to revisit it in any real way.

If you're a teen now, I highly recommend it. 🙂

Yeah, that's why I was so surprised I like it so much. I'm not impressed with many teen shows. But, I don't know, there's something really interesting to me about MSCL...maybe it's that it feels more real to me than any other teen show.
I watched it a lot when it was on. I watched it a few months ago on Netflix and it was cute, but a little too juvenile for me now. 😛

I recently caught up with it on Netflix, and I loved it, no matter how cheesy it was. 🙂

I used to love this show! I so need to do a re-watch.

I remember wanting to be friends with Rayann so much! Now I think I'd steer clear of her. 🙂 I actually watched it when I was in Jr High and identified with Angela so much.

I completely love that show. Claire Danes "got" me when I was 14 and I had the maddest crush on Jared Leto. Every one of my friends - at that age - was like a character in the show. I've watch a couple episode recently and I think its timeless. It def ended too soon.

I only watched it for the first time this year and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I thought it broke a lot of ground and did so intelligently. Apparently Ricky was the first openly gay male character on a TV series? Not sure on the facts, but one of my friends mentioned it to me.

I think it probably could have done with a mini season or movie to tie things up though.

Claire Danes was amazing, her obsession with the dude reminded me SO much of me as a teenage girl.

Totally agreed with everything you just said.
I had heard of it through a friend but didn't watch it until last year and I still haven't seen the entire thing. My English teacher had a love for the show and we watched it so often in English last year it was probably not even allowed. I loved it though, despite certain cringe worthy stuff. It is very self-aware.

For those of you who think you wouldn't enjoy it because it's a teen show - I'd urge you to give it a chance anyway. After all, Buffy was a teen show, too. So are many other intelligent, entertaining shows like Glee and Freaks and Geeks.

Love this show.

The mother! She seemed so realistic. I agree with everyone about the realism to this show. The show had that awkwardness in conversations/interactions that truly exist in settings like that.
