What food is native to your country? Doesn't have to be traditional food, just stuff you eat at home that you can't get anywhere else or you miss when you go abroad.

I was talking to an English friend a while ago and she couldn't believe that here we deep fry anything and everything. There's a chip shop on almost every street that you can buy deep fried pizza, hamburger, steak pie or why not try the deep fried mars bar-that's not a myth, people still buy them haha. Not that I ever tried one:whistle:.

Now when I'm abroad I actually miss Irn-Bru. For anyone that doesn't know this is a Scottsh soda drink that is so popular here it outsells Coke and Pepsi. Also tastes nice with vodka, lol!

There is also more disgusting food that you don't get anywhere else like Scotch pies and Potato Scones but let's not get into that haha.

Hmmm, we have "ćevapi", pronounced "tjevapi", that you can find in the region but they're never as good as here - rolled minced meat prepared on the grill with onions. And we have appropriated all kinds of eastern foods and made them our own - most profoundly, Burek (minced meat wrapped up in thin crusts; not to be mixed with spinach or cheese or potato or pumpkin pies, which are not burek, they're just pies), which is nothing like the Turkish burek or Bulgarian burek, although they made them first. 🙂

Well we have many things only Germans really like, mostly, lol. We have a whole lot of Wurst, like Blutwurst, Bratwurst, Leberwurst and several others, and that's actually one of the food things I miss most here in Belgium.
Of course we also have Wiener Schnitzel, though that might qualify as Austrian, I'm not sure.
Then something I think is very typical for German, Klöße with Rotkohl and Rouladen.
And so much more.

Great, now I'm kinda missing home 🙁

Maybe I should also list some typical Russian things, after all my Mom is the one who cooks and she's Russian. Well there are Pelmeni, which I really love, and borshtsh or however it's spelled in English, though that's technically Ukranian I think, shtshi, Ploff, Vinigret, Vareniki, Blini ... well that's about the Russian stuff we usually eat.

In the Southeast, we have things like Brunswick stew, corn bread, pinto beans, fried okra, fried green tomatoes, and sweet potatoe pie.

Well, we do love pizza. There´s pizza places all over the place. There´s no end to it. But typical swedish food? Well, it´s eatable so I guess I´d say knäckebröd och köttbullar. But really, if you want to catch up you´d be better off here Cuisine of Sweden - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But my personal favourite is smörgåsbord. Nothing I see as typical swedish but I think the term smorgasbord isn´t unheard of so I guess it has some connections. And then we have swedish meatballs. But seriously, don´t any other country have meatballs? I might just take it for granted as I´m swedish myself.

I never been out of the country long enough to miss certain food. And most of the real traditional food isn´t to my liking anyway. But I do like blodpudding.

One of my favourite foods are certainly shrimps. I do love them. And on that subject I should mention kräftskiva (crayfish party). This we have at the end of summer, put on stupid hats, get drunk and eat crayfish (maybe I should say cancer? I don´t know). And of course we peel the crayfish ourselves, and don´t you dare do it before we eat! So there we are, drunk with stupid hats on trying to peel the crayfish while singing stupid songs. It´s quite the show. You all should try it. At least on this occasion we don´t dance like frogs (the VH-peole know what I´m talking about). Want a preiview? Probably not but here you are. I'm completely biased towards Irish food. Anytime I've gone abroad I have hated the food with a fiery passion. Basically I miss it all!

Milk! ok milk is everywhere but it has to be Golden Vale for me...I love it!

Lyon's Tea...seriously cannot get a decent cup of tea in America! It was all herbal...that's not proper tea!

Cadbury's chocolate...I'm not a chocoholic by any means but I miss it when I can't have it lol

Taytos...ok these are a brand of chips/crisps in Ireland but they are so popular we use "Taytos" as the term to describe all crisps! Salt and vinegar is the best.

Cream buns...this is something I couldn't get over...nowhere else has these? different kinds of pastry filled with fresh cream (not from a can!) and sometimes jam...they are little pieces of heaven!

Traditional Irish food? Well there's the spud (potato) it's technically a South American food but we have claimed it as out own, Bacon and Cabbage, and Stew.

Other things like fish and chips but real chips...the big thick ones with fresh battered cod.

I miss Braums and Sonic when away. The rest of the world is missing out on the oh so yummy FRESH ice cream and deep fried cheezy gooiness. When I moved away a few years ago (to NY which equals total opposite of home) I missed that, biscuits and WHITE gravy (with sausage and eggs in it, yum!), chicken and dumplings, and Mexican food. Can't imagine what it'd be like to live in a place without cheese sauce and salsa.

On a more cultural note (come on it's me here, you know I'm gonna learn you on the Injun stuff and force it down your throat...no pun intended) I also missed pashofa more than you can imagine. It's a Choctaw/Chickasaw dish made up of a special type of corn (pashofa corn) and pork. So yummy!!!! Total comfort food. And my Grandma's fry bread. Nothing beats it!

Food is definetly one of the main things i miss about home. Where i am, all the supermarkets have the worst selection of food ever.
I love a 'full scottish' breakfast, and tattie scones. And anytime i go back to Scotland i can go to the chippie and get a good fish n chips(yummy), seeing as they are horrible where im at.

I don't think there is a food native of Ireland, well apart from Guinness but we have dishes that are ours. Like I metioned above Bacon and Cabbage and Stew are very much traditional Irish meals. As well as that there are brown and soda breads that are very Irish.

It's hard to get them in restaurants, if you want a real Irish meal it has to be home cooked or just isn't the same.

Welsh food....Make me homesick why don't you! That's one of the big things I miss about living in Wales, the food. I try to bake and cook for my boyfriend but mostly he turns his nose up at my welsh specialties haha. I'm not surprised though.. if I'd have known what half the things I ate were when I was a kid I don't think I'd have eaten them!

One of my favourite foods back when I was a kid and still now is eog, which is just salmon but my mum always poured cream over it..sickly but still delicious! Most other welsh foods I can think of are savoury foods such as bara birth which is just fruit bread, cage bach which is probably known more as Welsh cakes and my favourite, crempog which is a welsh pancake.

Oh, and I can't forget welsh rarebit 😉

One of our traditional kinds of food and besides my favourite food:biggrin: is Pierogi. It's dish made of dough and various fillings ( it can be for example cheese or mushrooms)
It's really delicious!
I also like Babka Ziemniaczana- it's sort of dish made of potatoes.
I think that also Barszcz ( soup made of beets) is characteristic for our country.
And when it comes to food which is characteristic for my region ( I live in Podlasie, more precisely in Suwalszczyzna near to border with Lithuania) we have cake called Sękacz or Baumkuchen.
Another popular dish is Kartacze. It's kind of Pierogi but filled with meat. ( I love when my grandma preapres it!:biggrin🙂

LOL...I did the same thing when I came back from Orlando! I had been living on cereal but when I got home all I wante was cheese sandwich,

Man, you guys have all this food that sounds so exotic and special. Here in Philadelphia, we've got...

Cheesesteaks. I don't like cheesesteaks from anywhere but Philadelphia. For those of you who are foreign to the idea of cheesesteaks (which sounds weird to me because I'm so used to them), it's sort of like a hamburger only instead of ground beef, it's just thin strips of it, and it's served in a hoagie roll. Geno's is the best place in the world to get them.

Soft pretzels. Philadelphia soft pretzels are all over the place, and they're sort of funny shaped.

Scrapple. I hate scrapple...it's disgusting. But for some reason, a lot of people I know love it.

Tastykakes. For those of you who don't live on the east coast of the US, they're these little prepackaged cake thingies. And they're awesome. If you ever see a Butterscotch Krimpet, get it. They're delish.

Then there's the more common foods that are just extra good in Philly, like hoagies and water ice, but to be honest, you really shouldn't come here expecting to find super amazing food.

I live in the Southern U.S., there are lots of sodas that are pretty much exclusive to this area, and also a couple of brands of potato chips that I've never seen anywhere else in the country...Tom's and Golden Flake, and ironically those are my favorite.

And of course tons of fried food, which I'll miss when I move next month to Utah but it will be healthy for me not to have it. 🙂
