I'm thinking about starting a forum for my family and relatives, we can talk about what's going on in our lives. So I wonder if you guys know of any good cheap forum-models sites, the kind where you don't have to know any html-codes to make it work.

It doesn't have to have the option of Swedish language(so I don't need to translate every function to my relatives) but it would help.

Any ideas?

Don't have any good tips obviously . Just wanted to wish you good luck
I'm not sure about buttons and whatever being in Swedish, but in phpbb, you can name the forums and sub-forums anything you want, so all of that stuff could be in Swedish. I think you can rename the buttons and other controls, too, but don't quote me on that.....

Out of all the free ones, phpBB is my favourite, although you still need to set up your own site and install the software unlike some other alternatives. phpBB is actually the software behind THE biggest forum on the internet (some Anime site) so its pretty flexible, primarily because a) it works perfectly out the box and is customisable and b) the code is ridiculously simple if you want to start minor tweaks. List of phpbb languages: http://www.phpbb.com/languages/ Svenska (?) is listed.

If setting up your own hosting and all that is a problem, i'd say something like Proboards.

Svenska would be swedish yeah.
I feel like I just made a list for someone else of all the free ones...I'll look for it if you decide you don't like phpBB. Get back to us before you go with proboards cause there might be a better choice out there than them. 🙂

I made a forum on proboards but will try others as well. If you could find that list Buffy, I'll love you forever.

But sadly, no, norweigan wouldn't work for me(but I heard they had swedish as well). I would need to look up a bunch of words.(which is embarrasing since norweigans seem to be able to understand swedish pretty well....)

I tried phpBB, but I had no idea what to download of all the files.

yea if you're jsut doing it for your family I would stay clear of phpbb, you would have to pay for hosting among other things.
I admin a forum hosted for free at forumotion.com, they have a huge amount of languages you can start your forum in - including Swedish. There's also a massive amount of sub-domain's to choose from.

I've been with them for over three years and am very happy - they use PHPBB3 (but you can use PHPBB2 if you want, or choose an invision style), plus a lot of the extra features they've added (all for free) - such as chatbox, karma/reputation etc. are really good. Hardly ever any downtime, either.

I'd recommend them.

I've used invisionfree.com and zetaboards.com - I dont' remember what languages they come in, but you should look into them. They're much better than proboards, IMO. 😉

Not sure how it is now, but some years ago when I used to have a forum on ProBoards they had a rule that said that the forum must be in english.

If it wasn't they could delete it without warning which apparently happend for some.
Not likely that they will find out if it's only a small forum for family members though... but you might want to check that.
