Needing help on some homework for German class.

I have to write a paper on why I want to learn German. I was hoping someone native to Germany could tell me about some of the food there. If I search German food all I get is meat products and I'm a vegetarian. Thanks guys 🙂
 
I'm learning German, too! But I'm using the Rosetta Stone software, not taking a class. And it's not telling me about German food. All I can think of is weinerschnitzel, and I think that's meat. :: vampire

They eat VERY VERY little refined sugar. Everything there is pretty bland. I guess that helps cut down the rolly polliness... and of course they have one big meal a day around noon, and have two small meals the rest of the day, and they are nearly forbidden from eating in between meals.

Thanks N4H! I love sauerkraut, i don't know why I didn't think of that.
 
One of my favorite German foods is Maultaschen. They're sort of like ravioli, filled with meat and vegetables, but I've had them filled with only vegetables before. They're usually served in a vegetable broth, but not always, I've had them cut in slices before, too. I like them served as a soup, tho, they're good! Another of my favorites is Spaetzle, German dumplings. My dad's ex-wife is German and she was a GREAT cook.....she made the BEST spaetzle I've ever had. They also have cookies that are traditionally served around Christmas, called Lebkuchen. They're gingerbread cookies that are really more cake-like, and they can be plain, or covered in chocolate or sugar glaze. I lived in Nurnberg for two years, which is known for it's lebkuchen.
