Netflix Drops Whedonverse Shows

Most all of our favorite Whedon shows are leaving Netflix Instant Viewing April 1st. All of Angel, Buffy, Firefly, and Season One of Dollhouse drop off Netflix Instant Viewing on April 1st.

I realize this site is mainly for posting *good* news in the Whedonverse, but I thought this might be a useful heads-up. It's hard to link directly to this information, but if one chooses "tv only" from the drop-down menu that by default says "movies + tv" and goes to the second page, you'll see all the shows above listed. (Dollhouse Season Two is not affected, and Dr. Horrible doesn't seem to be in danger.)

NOOOOOO!!! Do you know how many of my DVDs are missing or damaged?! It's been SO nice not to have to worry about hunting down my DVDs when I want to watch. 🙁

I think Netflix may only buy the rights to show certain things for a certain period of time. I know a lot of times my kids get really attached to movies on there, only to have them dropped after so long ("Bolt", "Elmo in Grouchland", etc.).

Oh my God, you have no idea how upset I am over this! Netflix was where I watched BtVS and AtS for the first time. I always go back to my instant queue to watch the episodes (except for the few I bought through iTunes). This is so devastating. I've been saving up to buy the Chosen collection too, but in the meantime, Netflix has been a lifesaver. I better start watching Firefly and Dollhouse before they're gone too!

I'm gonna cry, I'm so upset. GRRRR ARGH!!!! 😡

awwwwwwww just go buy them bolt dudette, a mate of mine kept Wall E for her kids (she says its for her kids, but she goes on about how much she loves the movie a fair bit) from LOVEFiLM (pretending they'd sent it back and it had been lost in the mail) cause she said it was so expensive when she went to buy it. I in no way condone this but LOL.


Sorry to hear about them taking Whedon down for ya Zobo, better shell out for the DVDs now.

They have "Bolt" on DVD somewhere... But DVDs tend to get lost in our house, a LOT. LOL

Damn. I knew it would happen eventually. Now I really do have to buy Firefly and Dr. Horrible, since those are the only ones missing from my shelf at the moment. At least they had a really good, long run. And at least Dollhouse season 2 will still be on there, since I thin it was just recently released on IQ

At a guess I'd say it might be contractual but it might also have to do with capacity issues- they might want to be able to advertise a whole new bunch of series starting on April 1st and need the space on servers etc. to be able to do it.

When companies do things like this it never does any harm to complain and (possibly) not renew and let them know why you're doing it.

That's so sad (and feels a bit off to drop Dollhouse s1 but not 2... peculiar indeed). Well I hope for you frequent users that they'll buy the rights again and continue to feature Whedon shows.

That's how I do my Whedon watching!!!! I own Firefly on Blu-Ray, but that's it. I just haven't been able to afford purchasing all 7 seasons of Buffy and 5 seasons of ATS. Damn!!! I've moved on to watching other things lately Netflix-wise, but I guess I need to watch Dr. Horrible and Dollhouse to see if I like them enough to buy them. That's how a lot of people on this board got started here- by rewatching via Netflix & rediscovering the love.

How are other people going to find the Buffy/Angel/Firefly love?!?!?!?!?!
