Netflix to make new Buffy Episodes?

I don't know if I am late on this news.. Netflix may create some old shows, including Buffy..

It's not much to bite on.. but there is a little 🙂

I know I would want the original cast.. then again, beggars can't be choosers..

You guys have no idea how lucky you are. The technological leap we’ve made over the past 5 years is astounding and has created so many opportunities for beloved fan projects to regain footing. No longer will network television have a stranglehold on deciding the fate of the show if not enough millions of people watch it.

Netflix’s Ted Sarandos spoke with Stuff.tv about the return of “Arrested Development,” and the newly minted “House of Cards.” Within the conversation, they begin tackling the tough questions, what other shows would he resurrect?

They ask him about “Arrested Development” creator Ron Howard circling Stephen King’s defunct The Dark Tower, which garned a shocking response: “I spoke to Ron about it, actually,” said Sarandos. “The last time we talked about it the thing was being kicked about HBO – but it’s no longer there. Once Arrested Development gets through we’ll keep talking about it.”

The interviewer digs harder asking about “Twin Peaks,” receiving a bold proclamation of “Absolutely!” while also adding that they could even bring “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” back: “That’s one that’ll come up on everyone’s list. She’s a great character. If it was my property I’d do infrequent movies. There’s not enough kick-ass female characters like that.”

What would you like to see back on the small screen (and don’t say “Get a Life”)?

I would love to see new Buffy episodes, but only if it had the original cast. I know that's kind of impossible for people like James, whose character isn't supposed to age, but for the rest of them I would say it has to happen.
Although I think we all know it will never happen. :\

I highly doubt this will ever happen. There's no way they could get the actors, writers and of course Joss all on board (which is pretty much the only way they could please the fans).

Some type of spin off is probably their best bet if they want to re-boot Buffy.

You know, it's funny, because I was about to say they're probably too successful as actors at this point to come back. Alyson Hannigan in particular. But Arrested Development was resurrected, and I would say a lot of that cast has more commercially successful careers than even SMG.

I maintain an animated series, better produced than those motion comics, would be more reasonable. Like Jerry Seinfeld says, animations probably the easiest way to get A-list actors for not a huge amount of money.

Just to be clear, when Netflis says "resurrect," are they talking about trying to get the original cast to make new episodes, which I seriously doubt that they could ever do, making new episodes using new actors, which would certainly be the easiest to do, but probably the hardest to get the fans to accept, or using some sort og CGI technology the way that the did with the original Schwarzenegger Terminator in "Terminator: Resurrection?" I read a few years ago that the technology had advanced in that field that they could use any actor, then modify them to look like whatever the story required, which they did in "Avatar" and "John Carter." But I seriously doubt that something like that would be economically feasible for the kind of budget Netflix would be able to afford.

Whichever one they propose, I ain't holding my breath...

I can say for sure they do not intend cgi recreations ala Terminator 4.

He only said that his idea would be to maybe make a few movies out of it, not actually reviving the series. Also, he just says that people keep asking about it, not that it has any reasonable chance of happening.

I'm not sure if I would want BtVS to be 'resurrected', even with the original cast (which is pretty unlikely). I think that the show already ran it's course, and was concluded well. (Yeah, I know there's the comics, but I like to pretend that they don't exist because they're way too weird for my liking D: )

I could probably live with it if there was a Ripper or Faith spinoff though 😉

So I'm kind of glad that his wording suggests that the show won't be making a come back.

If they do do an animated series I hope they use the same animation they used in the first animated attempt, that was really good.
