In this episode, Buffy goes to the morgue to rescue Giles, who is trapped inside with vampires. She goes into the room in the morgue where he is supposed to be hiding but Giles isn't there.

Vampires are not like leopards who carry a kill up a tree so they can eat without being disturbed. They would not carry a body away - they would drink and leave the corpse there. The sight of a corpse could force a lesser slayer to retreat or cause a more reckless slayer to make choices dangerous to herself, so the vampire has every reason to leave it behind. Vampires would only remove a corpse if they were trying not to be noticed.

Yeah, I think there would've been a body and blood. 'No Giles' meant that Buffy always had hope that Giles was alive somewhere- maybe taken by 'The Anoited' or whatever.
Just like later in S2 'Becoming' when Buffy finds out what happened to everyone else but Giles is missing then as well; she thought he'd been taken, not killed- and that was with Angelus' murderous habits to think about.
