(New) 30 Days of Bangel

Ooh, one of these threads! Sorry I missed so many days.
  • Aug. 1 - Day 1: When did you first become a Bangel fan?
My memories of my early days as a fan of the Buffyverse are very vague and scattered. I know that I immediately had a crush on Angel and Buffy was kind of my avatar through which to interpret the events of the show and the other characters, but I don't remember when I started specifically rooting for their relationship. Sometime between age 15, when I started actively watching the shows, and age 17, when I discovered Buffy/Angel fanfiction and spent most of my free time reading it, I guess.
  • Aug. 2 - Day 2: Most heart-melting/romantic Bangel scene
Vampface kiss.
  • Aug. 3 - Day 3: Favorite lighthearted/funny Bangel moment
"Well, sure, if you're gonna use wisdom."
  • Aug. 4 - Day 4: What music from the shows do you love the most for Bangel? (This can be score - like "Close Your Eyes" - or a song used for a scene - like "I'll Remember You" or both!)
"Close Your Eyes," and I've said this before, but I especially like the major key remix during the sunlit kiss in IWRY.
  • Aug. 5 - Day 5: Song from anywhere that you love the most for Bangel? (Any song by any artist ever! Share lyrics/vids if available!)
Ooh, maybe "Demons" or "Bleeding Out" by Imagine Dragons.
  • Aug. 6 - Day 6: Favorite setting/location for a Bangel scene
Angel's apartment. (Either apartment. Maybe the LA one slightly more. I just love Angel's decoration style, and those sets were nice and intimate, unlike the enormous mansion.)
  • Aug. 7 - Day 7: Most heartbreaking Bangel scene
"How am I supposed to go on with my life, knowing what we had—what we could've had?"
  • Aug. 8 - Day 8: Favorite Bangel fan vid or gifset
This might not be my most favorite of all the Buffy/Angel vids I've ever seen, but it's a good one.
  • Aug. 9 - Day 9: Bangel scene you like that most people seem to dislike
Angel vs Buffy in "Sanctuary." Obviously I don't love that they hit each other, but what I do like is that Angel doesn't just automatically side with Buffy because he loves her. He recognizes that Faith wants to change, and considering his own struggles, he desperately needs it to be possible that she can. Buffy has very good reasons for not being in a forgiving mood at the moment. Faith has pushed her well past her breaking point after she gave her many chances, and she has every reason to assume the worst about Faith's intentions when she sees her and Angel hugging. Both of their perspectives make sense, and it hurts to see them fight. It especially hurts to see Buffy lashing out and saying things to hurt him. But it's weirdly cathartic too. She's been nursing a lot of pain over him leaving, so an opportunity to vent is good (especially because the one she had in IWRY didn't actually happen for her in this timeline), and he needed the test of finding out if he could choose his principles over what Buffy wanted. Also they make up in her next episode, so they aren't left with those raw edges for long.
  • Aug. 10 - Day 10: Favorite behind-the-scenes photo or quote from DB/SMG?
"But for me, as Buffy, I think Angel."
  • Aug. 11- Day 11: If you could have had another BtVS/AtS crossover, where in the seasons would you put it?
I would have loved one where Angel found out about the Buffybot, immediately realized what it was, and beat the crap out of Spike for it.

OMG I love that Andrew Belle song and that video is perfect!
Aug. 11- Day 11: If you could have had another BtVS/AtS crossover, where in the seasons would you put it?

I haven't watched much of Angel, as I didn't care for Cordelia or the addition of Conor. lol But A part of me would've liked Angel to come back in season 6 of Buffy, and maybe him being the one to pull her out of her funk instead of Riley. When he wanted to kill himself, Buffy explains to him how painful & hard life can be, but to be strong, you have to fight. Angel telling her the same thing Riley did, and encouraging her to fight against her demons would've been very nice, and that pulling her back up would satisfy the Bangel fan in me. lol

Day 11 ~ If You Could Have Had Another BtVS / AtS Crossover, Where In the Seasons Would You Put It?
I do wish that Buffy had come on to Angel at some point during its fifth season. I would leave the how & why of it up to the writers, but it would have been nice to see her one last time, and too see them together one last time (especially since her last crossover appearance remains "Sanctuary", which I know many of you like, but which I remember as being the only crossover in either series that bummed me out). From what I've read, this was originally the hope, but Sarah Michelle Gellar was unavailable, 🙁. Supposedly, this is what led to them conceiving "You're Welcome". It kind of horrifies me to imagine the final season of Angel not giving Cordelia some kind of closure, and I would never wish to lose that episode, but I do wish that Buffy had gotten an episode too. I don't know which episode I would replace, because my encyclopedic remembrance of episodes is not as strong with Angel as it is with Buffy, even though I recall Season 5 as being my favorite. I do know that I fell asleep the first time I watched "The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco", but that doesn't necessarily mean it was a bad episode. I may have just been tired. 😛

Not a fan of this episode me too :)
Day 11 : If You Could Have Had Another BtVS / AtS Crossover, Where In the Seasons Would You Put It ?

In season 5 of Angel on the episode "The Girl in question" because I always found that to have this blonde girl pretending to be Buffy was lame. And it was frutrating because now I know this isn't Buffy thanks to the comic but for many years I believed it was really Buffy and I was angry that we didn't see her. But If Buffy have to be in this episode, please we delete the part or she is supposedly in love with "The Immortal", another things from that episode that I find really pathetic. Dawn can be with Buffy so we have finally our meeting Angel/Dawn. Buffy tells Spike she is in love with Angel and he says he is agreed 😛 seriously I don't know about that part lol maybe a speech of Buffy about Angel and Spike who need to wait that she is cookie dough and that they have to move on and live their lives until this moment where she is finally ready and chooses Angel 😎.

It was supposed to be Dawn instead of Andrew in TGIQ. MT was unavailable.
Aug. 11- Day 11: If you could have had another BtVS/AtS crossover, where in the seasons would you put it?

I'm completely torn between earlier in Season 7 / Season 4, or Buffy showing up in AtS Season 5.

I want to change my answer.... Buffy in Power Play :)
Aug. 12 - Day 12: Why do you think Angel is a good fit for Buffy?

Angel knows her secrets, he knows how it’s like being different than normal people and the obstacles that come with it. He even knows how it’s like to be dead and pulled back to the living. They are like ying and yang, white and black. She is the active and chatty partner whereas he is the calm and reasonable part. He grounds her when she’s going to freak. He is a good listener, a good fighter and lover.

Aug. 12 - Day 12: Why do you think Angel is a good fit for Buffy?

They both had their flaws where they could be stubborn. So not saying they're perfect. But I do think Angel was a good fit as sometimes, he did have certain wisdom about him that Buffy sometimes needed, which Xander or Willow just couldn't give. Like when her mom starts dating again and Buffy's not comfortable with it. Angel speaks to her from a place of understanding and gives his two cents.

Also, while sometimes clashing, Angel is a champion like Buffy. He understands her life as a slayer, and could fight along side her without problems. We see in season 5, Riley wasn't too happy with Buffy being to busy for him, whereas Angel would understand if Buffy was more distant because she had slayer duties, on top of a younger sibling & sick mother. When Buffy's mother died, it was Angel who went to be with her for a bit & offered to stay with her. Something Riley nor Spike did.

Also, they balance one another out. Buffy is the more outwardly emotional, and can get easily worked up. Angel is the composed calming touch she sometimes needs -rather than Xander or Spike who'd get high strung with her, and ping-pong off each other.

Aug. 12 - Day 12: Why do you think Angel is a good fit for Buffy?

Angel and Buffy are true equals. They are both stuck between the monster and human worlds, which makes him uniquely positioned to understand how hard that is for her. They're both effective leaders. Angel is willing to give Buffy constructive criticism when she needs it, instead of just being a yes-man (and he's been that way since "Never Kill a Boy on the First Date"!). He's also her best confidant and one of the best listeners in the Buffyverse.

Yes, this is the biggest thing for me, I think. Angel had a deep empathy for Buffy before it grew into romantic love. I think that's part of what allows her to confide in him and be open around him.

Aug. 9 - Day 9: Bangel scene you like that most people seem to dislike
The Five by Five argument. I think most people tend to pick a side when watching this episode: either Angel's being ignorant of Buffy's trauma or Buffy's being an unfair bitca. I happen to love it as I think their reactions make sense for both characters and I can understand where each is coming from. I also like how it shows how much they have each grown and developed as individuals and as Mrs Gordo says, there's so much going on there that's unspoken and unresolved. I think it's testament to the strong connection they continue to have with each other.

I just love how comfortable they are with each other.

Quote would be the one @Ann has mentioned above:

"For Angel, the love of his life is definitely Buffy," the actor says. "But he's trying to become human again. You see, he lost his innocence early on. He never really got a chance to experience what it is to be a man. He lost that (very young), and he identified so much with this woman (Buffy) because there are so many similarities (between them)--and she brought that out in him. Now that the shows have separated, I think if you got the two (characters) back together again, there would be an interesting mix of how each one has developed--although the underlying love would always be there. That's very strong, and you can't take that away. So who knows how that would work out? If the shows were to somehow go back together (on one network), then that would be great for the audience. I know that they would love to see that. But is it great for the characters? I don't know, because they've evolved and changed over time. "

With DB the general impression is that he's a bit of a jock-type even when it comes to the material. JM, with his theatre background, tends to be the one who goes deep into discussing character and themes. DB gives the sense that he says his lines, does the work and gets the job done. But then occasionally he will come out with something like this which shows he actually has a nice nuanced understanding of his character - moreso than he sometimes lets on - and I like that.

Aug. 11- Day 11: If you could have had another BtVS/AtS crossover, where in the seasons would you put it?

Well S6 is the only BtVS season without a crossover so I'm going with that one. I wanted to see what happened in that off-screen meeting, dammit!

I feel we (Bangels) got cheated. When we don't know there is too much speculation.
Aug 13- Day 13 Why do you think Buffy is a good fit for Angel

She complements Angel and loves Angel unconditionally. She is protective of him and has demonstrated this many times. She is his soulmate and set him on the right path when he wasn't on it to begin with. Buffy would have given up everything to be with him. She would never let him give up. Buffy taught Angel so much that he continued to do after they were no longer together. Her love for him will never die and she belongs with him. She can gives him so much, more than anyone else can. Buffy will never love anyone else like that again. Buffy is the only one that can make Angel happy, so much so that he loses his soul.

Aug. 13 - Day 13: Why do you think Buffy is a good fit for Angel?

She's like his sunlight. As hard as Angel is on himself, Buffy, just by existing, inspires him to believe he can be a good man. In 98 years of having a soul, nothing else could do that. And that's before she even meets him. From then on, Buffy is constantly proving his own worth to him. In "Angel," he thinks he's good for nothing but to become ashes at her feet, but she bares her neck and proves he's not what Darla thinks he is. In "What's My Line," she kisses him in vampface and rescues him from Spike and Dru's clutches. In "Surprise," she's distraught at the idea that his life could be in danger or that she might not see him for months. From "Beauty and the Beasts" on, she patiently helps him regain his sanity and his former strength, showing him through her actions that she never thought hell was what he deserved. In "Amends," she desperately fights for his life, even when he's the one trying to take it. (I could keep going, but I'm at work, so...)

Aug 13- Day 13 Why do you think Buffy is a good fit for Angel

I think Taaroko covered it well. I can't really add much now. lol Buffy has just always accepted Angel. She separates him from Angelus, and is always willing to welcome him back. Like she said in Amends, he has the chance to do real good and make up for the past. She doesn't think he's a monster, and isn't willing to let Angelus ruin him. She killed him to save the world, but nursed him back to health as soon as he was back

When it comes to devotion, Buffy is definitely #1. And Buffy was always Buffy. A contrast with Cangel. Angel watched Buffy from afar, and he loved her as she already was. The very person Buffy was, compared to Cordelia, who had to do a lot of changing before Angel looked at her romantically,. It's the same for Buffy. She loved Angel as he was. There was nothing for him to change.

Aug. 13 - Day 13: Why do you think Buffy is a good fit for Angel?

Buffy is his light, his salvation. She sees him with different eyes and differentiates between Angelus and Angel. She loved him despite everything he did, because she was the only one who could see his true soul. I am reminding about Cordelia’s freak show after she got the visions what Angelus did in season 4.

Aug. 14 - Day 14: Favorite season for Bangel post-BtVS Season 3?

I go with Angel Season 1 – although the scene in „forever“ made up for the lack of Bangel-action throughout the seasons.

Aug. 14 - Day 14: Favorite season for Bangel post-BtVS Season 3?

I suppose Buffy season 4, which still had a good bit of it compared to the last 3 seasons, where Angel came up in passing now & again before his return in Chosen.

Angel may have had more Bangel, but I never did watch the show in full. Just a couple of episodes here & there.

Aug. 14 - Day 14: Favorite season for Bangel post-BtVS Season 3?

I have to go with Season 5 / Season 2. The way Buffy is layered into the Darla arc is very juicy imo, Forever has my favorite Bangel scenes in both series, and the ending of There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb delivers an emotional gut punch that can't be denied.
