Has anyone else heard about this new show for this fall? It's about a detective in a big city who is immortal because of a gypsy curse. The only way he can revoke the curse is to find his "one true love and soul mate"...Gee, what an origonal idea! Where does Hollywood keep coming up with these great ideas?

There's another new tv show that I forgot to mention. "Moonlight" is about this private investigator, but he's not your normal Mike Hammer/Sam Spade type' No, this guy is, get this, a VAMPIRE, and he handles cases of a supernatural nature. Man, there are some positive geniuses in Hollywood. Where do they keep coming up with these great ideas? And they say there are no original ideas left!

I'm sorry, but all this attacking shows that sound REMOTELY like Buffy/Angel is getting to be beyond annoying, and downright sad.

First of all, New Amsterdam got its ideas from an unrelated book. Also, the detective isn't "cursed", it's considered a "gift", and it's not gypsies, it was given to him by a Native American girl that he saved. Once he finds someone he truly loves, he'll be able to become un-immortal and grow old and die. A totally different spin than what "Angel"'s premise is.

As for Moonlight, Angel was not the first vampire detective show, and until you actually see the pilot and are able to judge fairly, no one has any right to attack it.

What makes a show is NOT the basic premise, because there are are only so many. What makes a show is the CHARACTERS, the TONE, the STYLE, the WRITING, not just the premise. Television is fairly depleted of sci-fi/fantasy so why the hell do you don't you want to give these new shows a chance?

Reaper shares a similar premise to Brimstone and The Collector. Does that mean it shouldn't have been aired? Despite the fact that there are big differences in the actual plot, with different characters, and a totally different tone than those other shows?

Chuck sounds a little like Jake 2.0, but does that mean it's a clone? No. It's obviously not from the promos.

I think it's a pathetic that everyone feels like attacking each new show that comes along just because they share similar story elements. Buffy and Angel had their runs, they used plenty of story elements done elsewhere, albeit in different ways, and they're OVER.
 
All true Randy, but you see you weren't around for the days surrounding the cancellation of Angel during which the WB was making these assinine comments about how the ideas of Angel were old and had no place to grow. They proclaimed to us the all-knowing Gods of television had to wipe the slate clean, and discover what was fresh. Since that time (with a few exceptions) what we've seen is a steady recycling of old ideas with anything which actually is fresh having a live span of about 6 weeks. And then after telling us Angel was old, and outgrown television adds to the hypocrisy of that by recycling the show's oldest themes, and plot devices.

If you have taken offense to what I intended as an attempt (albeit a somewhat lame one, apparently) to introduce a little humor in an all too serious world. Hell, man, I have every intention of watching at least the first few episodes of both shows.

I love "Heroes," and it's a blatant takeoff of almost every superhero comic book ever published. "Tru Calling" shared plot elements with at least two or three previous shows, and nobody regretted its cancellation any more than me. "Quantum Leap" was almost a direct rip off of the old "Time Tunnel" series, and I can't even begin to count how many times John Carpenter has re-hashed "Assault On Precinct 13" and I loved every one of them.

Lighten up, man! You're singin' to the choir.

Yes, but that The WB. CBS, FOX, are different networks. And even if two networks share a parent company, there are different people working at each network...so why place blame or whatever it is on a show that's on, say, FOX, to a show that aired several years ago on a now-dead network? I just don't think there's a point.

Sorry, I know I got a little insane there but I had just come off of - not one, but TWO - forums where people were doing the same thing, although not to those shows in particular. It's very frustrating.

Jeez Louise, lighten up man, you know what you need? A good, old-fashioned pint o' lager and a packet of crisps(basically beer and chips for you yank)

It's not a matter of placing, blame, I'm just trying to explain where the residual echo of hard feelings comes from. Logic doesn't necessarily apply when you're talking about hard feelings, but just for the sake of arguement, any network could have picked up Angel after it was cancelled. There was a rumor about one of them doing just that. It was either ABC, or CBS. The foolishness of passing on the source to recycle it as a replacement still applies.

I'll still watch those shows though, and when they bomb, I'll say "there ya go dummies. Should have picked up Angel when you had a chance." It was picking up new viewers, stretching the borders of TV, and picking up viewers in the vanishing young male demographic much saught after by advertisers, but you guys let it disappear so you could come back years later with this recycled tripe."
