Bleeding Cool are tipping artist Rebekah Isaacs as the person to pencil Season 9.


The final issue of Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Eight came out today.

But Buffy Season Nine is due to have a new look.

As Georges Jeanty moves on to DC work, so it’s time for Buffy to take a new artist in return.

Bleeding Cool understand that Rebekah Isaacs, recently on the DC/Wildstorm book DV8 but also comics like Drafted, Sheena, DMZ and Hack/Slash is tapped to pencil Buffy Season Nine later this year.

I don't think I heard about Georges Jeanty hanging up his pencils as far as Buffy is concerned, but I admit, from the examples given, wouldn't exactly disappointed if this Rebekah Isaacs took over.
 
I can easily imagine him having enough of Buffy for the time being. He's done S8 for its entire run and a guy would do something else for a while. And honestly, I wouldn't be too sad to see him go. Rebekah Isaacs, too, is a little off at times, but at least we should be able to tell Dawn and Faith apart! And for the most part, I like her. 🙂 As long as we don't get someone like Larry Stroman (google him, the horror!), I'm cool.
 
As long as the art doesn't look as bad as some of the old comics that were published while the series was airing, I'll be happy.

As for the art from season 8, it took me a long time to get used to. I always thought it looked a bit too much like it belonged on that old Sabrina the Animated Series cartoon and not Buffy.
 
I could never tell the difference between Dawn and Faith either so I won't be sad to see him go.
 
I'm actually really sad to see Georges go. I love his work, I have at least three personal sketches of his that he did for me at Cons, and I'm not really sure how I feel about the next season having a whole different feel. Of course I understand that not every season can be the same, things change, but I know how much of a fan of the show Georges is and how much work he put into each issue, and I just feel a little sad to know that he could be moving on.

He's such a sweet guy, I hope this doesn't mean he stops doing Cons, lol.
 
FTMP, I've liked Jeanty's work, although I did have some trouble telling some characters apart (Faith & Kennedy mostly, and sometimes the guys- Giles & Andrew for example). But that other artist does look great, although a totally different feel. I wonder if she can soften it up some for the Buffyworld.
 
Rebekah Isaacs is OK (although the coloring jobs on some of those sample pages are pretty tragic.)

I hope Jeanty is involved somehow in season 9, perhaps doing one of the miniseries.

I really wish they could have gotten Amanda Conner or Pia Guerra.
 
I just spoke to Georges on Twitter.

He has just finished the alternate cover for the new Angel season for Dark Horse, and when I asked, he said he was NOT leaving Buffy.

He didn't elaborate, or confirm or deny that Rebekah Isaacs would somehow be involved, but he did say he wasn't leaving.

I've been critical of George's art in the past, however, I would definitely be sad to see him go. For me, Jeanty's art and Buffy are synonymous.

Maybe that's just me.
 
So, the official word is that Rebekah Isaacs will be doing the Angel & Faith title, and Georges will stay with the Buffy title. Right?

I like this idea. I like that they're trying to create a distinction between the two titles. I can't wait to see the first panels.

That sounds fantastic. I love Georges work, and I like the idea of the Buffy and Angel & Faith having two different artists so they will each have a different feel, much like how the tv shows did.

Anyone know if Rebekah Isaacs is fan of Buffy and Angel? She's really going to need to know her stuff if she's going to properly get the emotions of each character
 
I liked Rebekah's stuff more, but it looks like it has more to do with who inks her pencils than the actual penciling itself to determine how great her pencils come out.

Let's not forget that it can take 3 or more people to do a panel (pencils, inks, colors, screen tone, environment, etc.). So maybe that is why I am not a fan of Jeanty's work because the inker screwed up (unless he did all of the process himself).

I wish Jo Chen could do the inside of the comics though. Or Alex Ross. Oh that would be divine.

I guess - and this is just a guess as I am in no way an artist - if Jo Chen did the interiors, the comic would be plagued with delays. Her work is very detailed and realistic which you probably simply don't have the time to do when you have to put out 20-23 pages a month. And I'd rather have a comic with nice art coming out on time than a superb one that's constantly delayed. *grumbles something about Batwoman*

Yes, drawing for a comic and painting like Chen does take two very different skillsets. If they were drawn to the level of a Jo Chen painting, we'd get 2 a season! But, that's not to say it'd be impossible. I'm sure she can draw well to a lesser level of detail too. But drawing for comics really is its own thing, and I think we'd definitely be better with a professional.
