New Browser - RockMelt

There's a new Chrome based browser out called RockMelt. I have...4 invitations left and, for anyone who uses it after an invite - I get more invites. An anyone who gets it..gets 5 invites themselves. Theoretically, the whole forum, if interested, could be invited to use it through each other.

My thoughts: I like the browser so far - it has built in Twitter, Facebook, and GMail integration. It's also fairly zippy.

If you are interested, let me know. I have to pass invites along through Facebook, so you may need to add me as your friend. Also, if anyone else uses it - let me know your thoughts.
 
I use Chrome, so I think I'd be interested in something like this. Is it much faster than Chrome? How have you found it so far?
 
So far, like it. It's about the same speed as Chrome - which is good considering it's detailed Facebook integration.

By Facebook integration, I mean that the left side of the screen is your Facebook friends, you can see instantly updates to your Wall / universal Wall, can update / like things right from the browser while browsing whatever website you were looking at.

Here's a link to a screenshot that shows the Twitter integration window. The left is your friends from Facebook who are online, on the right you can open similar windows like the Twitter one to show your Facebook feed, Wall, and other feeds of your choosing.

EDIT: And yes, the screenshot was taken while I was in the middle of writing this post 🙂

That actually doesn't look as cluttered and weird as I thought it was going to. I'd definitely be interested in that, I think.

Also - anyone who has RockMelt - let us know what you think! I like it a lot so far and would love to hear other people's opinions.

hmmm impressed so far

i was a Chrome user previously so it imported all my stuff no problems...

need to resort all my bookmarks and stuff though as it jammed them all in one folder for some reason... should just be a 'delete all, then copy over my original folder' job later

just sent an invite to myself to use this as well, stick it on my x86 system as well as my normal x64 system... then i'll benchmark them both and let you all know how it actually performs...

looks pretty smooth so far though... loving the FB integration, feels like Chrome took a step forward and mated with Flock lol

missing a few things I really liked about Chrome... as a multi-system user, one of the things i really loved about Chrome was how it synced bookmarks automatically on different systems, so if i saved some bookmarks on this computer, then it would update my laptop and smartphone automatically...

RockMelt apparently doesn't have that feature sadly 🙁

It'll take a bit of getting used to, going through the settings and customizing it now... give me a week to skin it and get rid of some of the crap, then i think i'll be reasonably happy with it as a Chrome replacement 😀

Update 2

Well, tested it running 16 tabs continuously, no lag whatsoever, and barely made a dent in my memory...

Seems to actually out perform Chrome in that respect, though with the amount of instances running it may lag later on or with machines with under 16gb RAM...

Interesting. I don't use Chrome or anything on...well, anything but one computer. Interesting assessment. Thanks for all the info! I'm sure everyone will appreciate you ripping the RockMelt apart / telling them all the gritty usage details.
 
lol this is just the beginning...

i'll run a full benchmark overnight and see what this puppy can really do... if it lags anywhere after 78 windows open then it does better than Chrome lol

Ok... i'll be moving back to Chrome i think until this browser has all the bugs worked out of it...

they're only little niggling things that i've found so far, but it's enough to make little everyday tasks that bit more complicated...

1. Windows 7 integration - RockMelt does NOT like the windows 7 task bar, seriously... it won't dock properly and multiple windows come up as a mess when you're trying to flick through them properly...

2. Image uploading / popup windows - RockMelt seems to try and integrate popup windows for image uploading into the same window as the original for some damned reason... so when you're trying to upload an image, say to photobucket, you get a mess of buttons and progress bars that overlap and cause just a plain mess... not good...

there are a few other things, but those along with missing the sync option are the major ones that are really turning me off this browser
