Good or not?

For example, lately I've got 2 people to watch Buffy S1. (Well, only one of them, the other did it for her own reasons) The problem I'm having is that these two just don't seem to... GET it. I try to say things like, "Hey, what was your favorite episode?" "Or what was your favorite season?"
(for one of them). But they just don't... ARGH... They don't... GET it. I don't know how to explain. It's like they don't would rather worry about something else and not Buffy... Of course, I'm not complaining though, because it's really rare nowaday's to see people watching Buffy.

Also, what do you guys say when other non-Buffy fans say that Buffy is stupid? I don't know what to say because I really do see how they think it's stupid, it's just that I don't feel that way. And it really doesn't help that the friend that has watched multiple season says, "Well, yeah, it is stupid, but it's addicting". I just don't kow what to say. I want to defend Buffy, but it's just so hard to when they have "Buffy being stupid" shoved in there brain.

Well, I have shown Buffy and Angel to most of my friends and until now they all liked it but they really haven't got into it like I did.
But right now, I'm showing it to a friend and he's reaally liking it and he reminds me of how I was when I first started watching it. And before, I had to explain everything but it still seemed like no one was getting what that episode or what that scene meant, but I don't need to do that with him. In fact, he even raises some interesting points.
I've already talked to him about BB, but he says he wants to watch more before "livng" with us Buffy-brainiacs and make a fool of himself lol

Well im the ONLY Buffy fan i know in real life.
Its just everyone likes different things. But i have to admit, before i watched Buffy i'd have been the sort of person that says Buffy looks like a stupid show, so i get where they are coming from. It was total luck that when i happened to catch Buffy for the first time it was one of the best eps ever, otherwise i may still say 'its stupid'. But some people also dont want to get a show, like me with Firefly, it just dosnt look like the sort of thing i'd like, or want to like.

my friend said that buffy always looked corny and not the kind of show she'd like, but after we sat down and watched basically all seven seasons, she has completely changed her mind. she said she didn't know it was so profound and that it's really something you have to watch and get into and give a chance before making up your mind.

Well right now I'm working on converting my house into an arm of Buffy fans, but it's only semi working. There's one girl who watches a lot of episodes with me (she's always like 'more more more'), but she doesn't seem to want to discuss those topics with me...then there's this guy who doesn't watch Buffy that often because he's not a fan of TV in general, but when he does he asks me all sorts of smart questions...like today he asked me about the soul status of vengeance demons...I had no idea what to tell him. Then there's this other girl who generally rather dislikes the show, but not because it's bad, just because she can't stand SMG at all. So, new fans, or potential new fans, all sorts of different people. So that's why I think you can't judge them just in general.

Whenever I try to get a friend into Buffy, I never, EVER have them watch season 1. It just isn't the same show it is in the later seasons. I always have them start at School Hard, because, in my opinion, that's when the show really starts out. And, even though the three people I've had watch from beginning to end all thought that it would be stupid at first, they all fell in love with it.

As far as non-fans saying it's stupid, well, I'm always quick to defend it, but to be honest, I can see why they might think that. If they'd never seen a post-season 1 episode, they'd probably automatically assume that a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer is stupid because, well, it's a ridiculous name.

While I can understand that strategy, it does feel to me like cheating them out of the goodies of S1 - The Pack, OOMOOS, Puppet Show & The Witch may have that standalonish S1 feel about them, but I like them on a par with lots of later eps. Also, Witch, Pack & PG do get referred to later on in the overall story (beyond small-inside-joke level... every other ep gets these, lol).

I have some friends that, +/- 1 year ago, said something like this "I love Buffy. It's so cool. It's my fav series i love it blahblahblha.." and then i said " Really? I love it too! I didnt know you liked it! blahblah" then i asked "So.. you're fav character is.." and they said things like this: "that guy with blond hair", "I think the vampire is funny.. what was his name? ahh.. Spike". I was like O.O Ok, first they say they love it but they don't even know the name of the characters !! I mean, that's not being a fan! They watch some episodes on tv and they're saying they are fans. Dont you hate when that happens? When someone says "I'm a huge fan" when they're NOT?

And about the name (Buffy, the V. S.) you're so right. Sometimes i say "You have to watch Buffy!!" and they answer "Buffy??.. The Vampire Slayer? Ahh.. I dont like vampire stories" or things like that!! They think it's stupid. But they never watched it (or never REALLY watched it). This really pisses me off!

I have no problem with new fans of the show. Although I think people are being narrow-minded if they decide whether or not to watch a show only because of it's title.

I know a few ppl who go to my school that watch Buffy also i just got my sister into it and my brother watches Angel but he wont watch Buffy because he considers it girly

New fans are always good, the more the merrier. I didn't get *completely* hooked with Buffy until the beginning/middle of season 5.. although I did watch a few episodes in season 2 and loved them. I started watching all the re-runs from season 1 after I got hooked during season 5.

before i watched buffy, when i had watched only angel, i had this friend who said pretty much that. and i was like, 'so what's your favourite episode?', and they said, 'well, there was this thing with baseball. that was okay' (i think they were referring to 'nightmares'). not having watched it, that didnt quite tip me off to how much of a fan they really werent, but this did a little more: i asked, 'so who are the characters? i only know...' and i proceeded to list who id seen in angel. and my friend said, 'well, there's this guy with glasses?' 'wesley?' 'i dont know' 'brown hair?' 'he's really old' 'well, i heard wesley was in some of the episodes, so can you describe this guy, 'cause maybe it was wesley?' 'um...no. but he was really old' ...:whistle:

its weird how people get me to watch shows they claim they love, and then i like the shows more than they do! 😀

oh, and i pretty much agree with social suicide. the fans are all different, you cant judge them generally.

You've got to get the potential fans to watch beyond season one. Season two has some pretty hook-worthy stuff, but for me, i didn't personally get obsessed with the show untill season four. So the key is to somehow keep them watching right through till the end....

Luckily I started watching on S6. However, I already knew most of what happens because I watched earlier episodes in the morning. But the problem with this is that I don't wanna give my friends S6 first.
1. It would be a GREAT start.
2. They would have no idea what was going on...

My former best friend just started watching Buffy and to be honest I find it really annoying. The other day she said to me 'Did you know that Faith was dancing in the Bronze before they saw her?' and I nearly hit my head against a brickwall. That's the main annoying thing, that she seems to think she knows more about Buffy than I do when I've been a fan a lot longer than her. That's my only problem with new fans, otherwise I think it's good getting more people into the fandom.

I never know what to say when people say things about Buffy, either. I get bullied for liking it, a lot, but I let it slide because I never know what to say back saying 'No it's not' probably wouldn't work, but that's not much else to say.
