Hi folks,

I've never been on a board before (ever!) but I'd like to enlist your help in polishing up my book that's coming out this year. It is a massive Bibliography of the Buffyverse, from McFarland Publishing, who market to libraries mainly.

It includes everything on Buffy/Angel/Fray, as long as it's published in some physical medium (rather than web-only). I am especially interested in rare & unusual printed materials like posters, art books, foreign language materials, comics, board games, card games, rpgs, odd dvds or cds etc. Trading cards I have pretty well covered I think. Anyway, I thought I'd toss this out there, you can email me direct if you wish, or reply here.

Thanks in anticipation - I'm sure this is outside your normal discussion but any help in tracking fugitive materials would be much appreciated!

Don Macnaughtan, Lane Community College Library, Eugene OR. Look me up on Google, and I'm also on Facebook.

I have a whole bunch of German translated books of Buffy and Angel, if that helps you? It's only the translations of the English ones though, I think, but maybe you could mention that the books have been translated in many languages, and name the international titles. I could help provide you the titles and give literal translations of the German titles.

Hi, I have 63 German translations of the novels and 1 short story collection. Looks like they were licensed to the Cologne television tie-in publisher VGS GmbH. Do you have stuff apart from the novels? Maybe we could trade lists & I could do a comparison.
Thanks!
Don

Well, do you know about this trading card? ANGEL Lone Star Press I thought it was kinds obscure.

There's of course other con exlcusive trading cards.

Thanks! No that one I didn't have, it's perfect. Any advice on con trading cards would be great, I don't have many of those.

Don

Keep checking ebay for promo cards, I keep seeing cards I've never seen before.

Have you seen the dark horse extra big trading card limited too 500? I have one and could scan it for you.

And the promo flyers for cards and other collectibles, have you seen those? I think there might be a member here, Joan the vampire slayer, who collects those and could be able to help you.

Besides the novels I have the Yearbook in German, and some of the German DVDs (s3, 5, 6, 7 of Buffy and 3 and 4 of Angel)
I do have some posters, but they're all those cheap ones that come with teen magazines. For what it's worth, the ones I have were from German magazines.

This is the citation for the German yearbook I have - sounds like its the same as yours... (bibliographies are structured around citations, which are a formalized way of describing a book)

Golden, Christopher, and Nancy Holder. Buffy im Bann der Dämonen: Sunnydale High Yearbook: Das Offizielle Jahrbuch. Trans. Christiane Jung. Stuttgart: Dino, 2001. 89p. Print. Translation of The Official Sunnydale High Yearbook.

I don't have the German dvds tho...I was never able to find them.

I have the French, which look like this:

Angel intégrale: 5 saisons. Fox Pathé Europa, 2006. DVD. 30 discs. Formats: PAL, Region 2. Languages: English, French. Subtitles: English, French.

If you can send me the German title wording etc I can construct a citation. I'd need title (Buffy, im Bann der Dämonen?) company (maybe Fox Pathe?) language & subtitle info.

Thanks so much, you guys are giving me great information. Expect to see the book in Fall 2010, it will be absolutely massive, the first bibliography ever on a tv show, and Buffy gets the honor!

Haven't seen the Dark Horse cards, all I'd need to "cite" them is title info, a date of publication, and maybe a short description of what they were & where they were distributed. Extra big means they were oversized? Thanks! great stuff.

Hey,

I think there's more than one version on the German market. For example, my s7 is in a black plastic box you can open and then you have those DVD shells in there. My season 3 is a more milky looking plastic, but otherwise similar to s7. S5 is completely different (I think it's older...bought it off ebay a while ago), it's made out of two apart volumes, both a made more of some cardboard stuff rather than plastic, und you don't jus open it and flick through the shells, but you have to unfold sort of.

this
is what the new boxed look like (at least I think they're newer).
Notice how on top it says "Die komplette Season 6 auf 6 DVDs" (translation: The complete season 6 on 6 DVDs; (the picture is from s6 obviously).
Then, over the number of the season it says "Buffy Im Bann der Dämonen", in the usual Buffy font. As you are probably aware, that's the title of the show in German. And then below that the text is in English, no idea why.
The background has a summary of the season (a bad one, if you ask me), an overview on which extras are contained on the discs, infos over language and all the other usual stuff.

And oh, I just realized, I think I can simply linmk you to amazon.
Here is s6 on the German amazon:
http://www.amazon.de/Buffy-Bann-D%C3%A4monen-komplette-Season/dp/B000BCA020/ref=pd_sim_d_4
If you scroll down, there's also links to the other seasons, plus the Angel seasons. Somewhere in the middle, there's a product description.

I hope you get along on the German amazon, if not tell me, and I can help you translate.

Yep, they were oversized. I'm writing a paper right now, so I'll check on it later.

Do you have Harmony's MTV blog post and her article/ad? Only the article/ad is printed tough, it was printed in a few comics.

Well, I do have a couple of the books in french, but I don't think any of them are rare...

If I translate the book names, there's 'The Vampire Slayer as a Spiritual Guide'(where they pretty much translate bunch of things from BtVS into real life situations/problems) by Jana Riess.

Then there's 'SMG's Buffy The Vampire Slayer' by Nikki Stafford.

I also got the official guides(but I guess you have these in french already).

'The Buffy Chronicles', first published by Three Rivers Press.

And finally the 'Hollywood Vampire'.

Again, all those are in french.

I'm actually interested in your upcoming book! Do you expect everyone to be able to buy it online?

Thanks yes I've got those French translations.

The book will be available thru Amazon - it may sell mainly to libraries, but I'm betting a lot of fans will buy it too. It'll be around 800 pages, and I haven't heard anything on pricing yet. It may be in 2 volumes. There is more info (incl a new Table of Contents) at the book's blog: buffyverse dot wordpress dot com (sorry I can't post urls yet) Check it out!

Alright, thanks!

I'm gonna go look at your website and most likely buy the book(s) when it's published.

I scanned the side of the card with the info on it. The other side only has a image of Buffy's head from the second Jo Chen cover for Season 8.

Thanks! That's exactly what I need.
