Woo Hoo been waiting for this announcement for a while. Sounds good. She's a vigilante fighting crime on the streets of Las Vegas. Lot's to unpack there.

This is the type of thing we need, ACTUAL female empowerment, not Disney princess shit or lame hand me downs of male characters.

She's a bad actress and a bad person. The only thing she has going for her is a very unique body type.
How can you and HowiMetdaSlayer possibly say she is a bad person. I bet it's a lot of ill informed nonsense from the mainstream media? Meanwhile nothing wrong with her acting and funnily enough nobody had any problems with her acting before the manufactured backlash? Bizarre coincidence that isn't it? Never any bad delivery montages like with Gal Gadot, even today?

In case you don't respond I'll post this to show how ridiculous your opinions are.

What actually happened with Gina Carano was in 2020 the "woke" for lack of a better term fans of Star Wars (I say fans they were really just activists wanting to take it over.) Demanded that she put BLM in her bio. She politely declined and so they sent her horrible abuse. She declined because she said she didn't know enough about the movement and situation. Later they demanded she make it up by putting her pronouns in her bio. Again she politely declined as she wasn't sure what it meant, so they sent her death threats of which the following are a tiny sample.

She then put beep boop bop in as a joke reference to her role on Star Wars, and when some of her friends said that could be taken as hating trans people she apologised, said it wasn't meant that way and deleted it. That's it! That's the extent of her role in the trans debate. Meanwhile her ACTUAL history with the LGBT community is incredibly positive.

As a teenager she used to dog off school in a gay bar that was right next to her school where she became friends with the patrons. Remember this is the 90s, back when jokes about gay people were common on tv. Not many teenagers would have spent most of their time in a gay club.

She also had a very close friendship with Tonya Evinger an openly lesbian woman in the 00s (again a time when homosexuality was more taboo. This was two years after Arnie who isn't even viewed as homophobic veteod a gay marriage bill) and supported her through bad times, with their friendship being so close, people thought Gina was bisexual. Ultimately Tonya shot those rumours down, but she did have feelings for Gina and still values her support to this day.

Below is an interview with Tonya and a screenshot of her liking my tweet saying anybody who calls Gina transphobic and homophobic is an idiot from January this year.

If you don't want to click on it, this is Tonya's quote about Gina.

It didn’t quite work out that way. At least not all of it. Evinger lost via rear-naked choke to Carano, but she eventually got that kiss.

“We did go out many, many times,” Evinger said. “I took her to a gay bar in Hawaii and they had 25-cent beers, so we got in a contest like we’re going to outdrink each other and see who can drink the most. We got ****ed up, I mean, real ****ed up. It was bad. There were maybe five people and then all of us showed up. We were just rocking out all over dance floor. I had her up against the ****ing railing. Man, we had fun.

“I got so drunk I passed out — this is when we fought on Elite XC — and our hotel was a block from where we’re partying and I couldn’t walk back to the hotel, so they had to get a cab for us. She had a picture on MySpace. It’s of me in a cab and I’m sitting straight up, but my head is down and I’m just drooling all over my tits and Gina was on the other side of me smiling. I was like, man, what did I do to myself? I passed out and drooled on myself instead of trying to get into her panties. What is wrong with me?

We hung out a bunch more times, in Stockton and Vegas and stuff like that. In Vegas, I made her hold my hand the whole time we walked around. I did get a kiss out of her that night, but it was kind of tricky. I was kind of being a creep, but she liked it, so whatever.”

She also went out of her way to defend Katy O'Brian when the trolls were being horrible and homophobic about her (which is more than Katy or any of her Mando co-stars did for Gina btw.) Gina Carano Defends The Mandalorian's Katy O'Brian from Toxic Fans

Gina also said in a 2024 interview she supports pride parades, and has played a bisexual character and shared on screen kisses with girls as seen here. https://packaged-media.redd.it/99oj...00&s=b2a16bbb8edc4196f78c70f77d44c77dce9f342a

Also finally the guy who runs her fansite, Gina Carano. Net that has done more to rally support for her than anyone else and is her friend and chats with her on twitter regularly is openly gay!

I might add she follows me on twitter and I have brought all this up lots of times in defense of her and so she clearly has 0 issue with this argument being used to defend her. IE if she were ashamed of her past she'd say "please don't bring up Tonya I am not that person now" but she doesn't.

So yes this woman is clearly NOT homophobic. Overall she's not even that right wing. She's I would say centre right. She definitely leans on the republican side for COVID and free speech (which is understandable as the left bit her head off.) Meanwhile for economic politics she is neutral as she hasn't really commented on them, whilst socially she is very progressive as seen with her status as a pioneer for women in a male dominated area and her history with LGBT people, not to mention other causes she has supported like speaking out in support of Julian Assange when he was imprisoned for exposing America's war crimes.

Meanwhile Disney who created this narrative about her have five million in shares in Saudi Arabia, a country that KILLS LGBT people. See here. ‘Don’t say gay’? Hypocritical Disney makes money in countries that ban homosexuality

They clearly pushed this narrative and fired her to make themselves look good and deflect from their own dodgy dealings, something a democrat voting FEMALE judge ruled was true in October last year, hence why Disney's desire to dismiss her case was denied and why they eventually settled as they knew that their case wouldn't hold up in court.

She was a victim of not only a smear campaign, but hilariously misogynistic double standards as no way would she have got this treatment if she were a dude. Arnold Schwarzanegger was a member of the Bush administration during the war and voted against gay marriage. He actually helped BAN gay marriage, but nobody cares? Here look at the LGBT reddit page where my post bringing up these points about Gina was deleted, here is their post about Arnie helping to ban gay marriage and they are all mostly saying he was just a man of his time! Yet Gina's "crimes" are so big she must never be mentioned?

If you care about ACTUAL female empowerment you should be supporting her not the evil company that threw her under the bus to make themselves look good. Do you watch Angel and think that Wolfram and Hart were the good guys?

Wow, this is pretty unhinged. She's still a terrible human being though. Have fun trying to convince strangers otherwise.

The only reason I gave you a like is I couldn't give you two likes. We are in a Marxist postmodernist world where facts don't matter, at least to the left.

Unhinged in Gina Carano's critics minds = having well researched points, things to back up what you're saying, stating your arguments carefully and respectfully.

Why do you guys want to hate her in the face of overwhelming evidence that she's not what you say? I think her critics are just embarrassed at the fact that they attacked a strong woman, something they claim to love because they were easily misled by the media and try and cover it up. I wouldn't even mind if they'd been misled by the media. We all have at different points, but it's this trying to double down and again at the expense of a good woman that really makes me view her critics as low and hypocritical.

I don't know who sold you those hinges, but you got ripped off.
No argument, but I'll be the bigger man and walk away so as not to drag this other than you reasonable board down, as anyone who is non partisan who stumbles on this thread and sees my post, the only one with facts, quotes from people who know her, stuff about what she actually said and her history would side with me.

If you cannot post, including comments in posts, without insults and rudeness, this will be closed.

Your entire thesis is basically one gigantic, "I have a black friend" excuse from someone who just said something incredibly racist. You made this topic fishing for someone to respond so that you could unload your cherrypicked, pre-prepared wall of whatabout-isms, justifications, excuses, rationalizations, and outright lies. It's incredibly transparent which is why it wasn't even close to worth anyone's time to pick it apart piece by piece. I'm not sure why you're so incredibly invested in portraying a virulent bigot as anything other than that, but you're not fooling anyone. You're just trying to brute force anyone who sees the truth into silence because you know nobody who values their time is going to bother engaging with your wall of nonsense. But just because you post a gigantic wall of stuff nobody wants to pick apart doesn't mean you've made a cogent argument. Your anti-woke crusade is cliched, tiresome, and sad.

I hadn't heard about this but it sounds like it might end up being halfway decent.

Who knows. I admit to being biased as I like her, but obviously it will depend on the script. Not a bad idea though.

Actually the OP was about a potentially new and cool female led show. Most of the people here don't have a passionate hatred of Gina Carano, a mild mannered, inoffensive actress they've never met or interacted with, and either like Gina (as the likes on my post and response from Ethan Reigns show) or are fairly neutral towards her like Alpha Fox Trot and BaskingINBangel and the forum moderator, who only chipped in when you started getting personal and if you're not careful will get this thread locked.

Meanwhile my post very clearly showed you Gina's continued support for the community and her ease around LGBT people which in many cases like in the 90s was decades ahead of its time, and her own lesbian experiences. It's hilarious all the nonsense people go on about the likes of Lucy Lawless, Alyson Hannigan being LGBT icons, and none of them have actually ever had a lesbian experience LOL, Gina has!

You meanwhile STILL can't A/ answer ANY of my points here and B/ can't provide one single example of her being bigoted? C/ refuse to take into account that people can be complex.

Even if and I'm not for one minute admitting, but even if Gina DID say one thing about trans people that was bad 5 years ago, who cares? You're really going to hold a grudge for the rest of your life and tar her ENTIRE character as a bigot over that? People say stupid things all the time, are they not allowed to change, are they not to be forgiven for one misstep? Her critics act like some kind of emperor in a magic kingdom "THOUGH HAST FORSAKEN ME!" And again they end up holding her to a much higher standard than any one else. Bruce Campbell did jokes about girls with dicks, Buffy itself uses phrases like "poof" all the time and fetishizes its lesbian leads in Restless and Storyteller, Married with Children does jokes where the punchline is it's secretly a man when he kisses a hot woman, the Simpsons features plenty of homophobic/transphobic jokes, Futurama did an absolutely hideous episode bullying Susan Boyle etc. NONE of the people involved in these have apologised for them, (unlike Gina for her more minor one.) Why not hold that against them for the rest of their lives and overshadow everything else to do with them? It's only fair?

I also wouldn't have thought that a Buffy/Angel fan would have tugged at the "can't like art by people who aren't great" in general btw.

That's why the Gina hatred comes over as more just embarrassment from her critics at the fact that they rushed in there and targeted a strong woman, and want her to go away and be forgotten so the other side of the ever tedious culture war, can't get one up on them and use as a comeback. "You say you support strong roles for women, but what about Gina". Well I don't care about the tedious culture war, if you're that desperate you can bring up petty backlashes they've started. Stop trying to double down though on a woman you know is innocent to save face. That's not fair to her obviously and it creates a terrible precedent (one which we are seeing the full effects of with the recent spate of cancellations.)

Let’s remember to keep it civil in this thread please. 🙂
No problem. Again I've said my piece. Any thoughts on the show, or do you not care one bit LOL. That's fair enough, I mean not everybody has to like Gina, it's just the treating her like the plague that baffles me. Like I said even if she wasn't a decent person, and her opinions weren't as mild as can be, who actually cares about an actors politics or if they are a good guy or not anyway?

So many Buffyverse actors are mired in controversy, to say nothing of the big cheese, Joss himself. These people are not your friends, you will never meet them so what does it matter? I understand if its a SERIOUS thing like for instance I do have trouble watching Smallville now given what Alison Mack did. She actively destroyed people's lives, but thankfully that is rare, so yeah most of the time if an actors just a dick, it doesn't bother me.

Ironically though I do have a very small connection with Gina. She follows me on twitter and whilst I haven't had a big conversation with her or anything she has been very nice liking posts about my grandparents and my adorable niece and nephew. I also like I said do think what happened to her reflects wider issues, but I won't go over that again. Still yeah I know first hand how nice she is.

Looking forward to this. She shouldn't have been cancelled in the first place. Now D+ have had to backtrack over it. 😎

P.S, do I get into the Guinness Book of Records for longest time between joining a forum and making my first post? 😁
LOL glad I could make you come out of hibernation. It's funny that I got you out on a Buffy forum with a post about Gina Carano.

I will say Buffy fandom is the absolute BEST because it's the most diverse. It hasn't become either a little left wing only or a right wing only club. It's also got a great mix of men and women, and so avoids all the neurosis that come from single sex fandoms. I wonder why Buffy had such a great fandom, considering Joss promoted such a toxic cult around himself in the early years? Who knows maybe that's why, because unlike other fandoms we lost any pretentions about our showrunner being a messiah like figure. For instance DW fandom are awful for that about their showrunners and Xena fandom get like that about Lucy Lawless to the point where they've almost put me off Lucy LOL (not really, but you know what I mean.)

I just hope the revival doesn't cock this up.

Incidentally Dana DeLorenzo loved my post about her and Gina Carano working together, so here's hoping for a collab between those two. I would shit my pants in excitement that would be so awesome haha.

@EthanReigns The only reason I gave you a like is I couldn't give you two likes. We are in a Marxist postmodernist world where facts don't matter, at least to the left.

Thanks Ethan, glad to have your support. Though to be clear I am ironically NOT right wing at all. I come from an incredibly left wing family. Let's just say my dad saluted Fidel Castro when he died. My beliefs meanwhile are that I 100 percent support universal healthcare, the welfare state, I believe that the roads and resources like gas and electricity should be owned by the people for the people (though I don't think all businesses should be owned by the government. IE resturants and cafes etc.) I also obviously support LGBT rights and gay marriage and gay people's right to adopt kids. I don't believe there is a patriarchy that is designed to benefit men above all else. I think that our society is built upon old fashioned ideas about gender that may have been beneficial in the wild, but don't apply in the modern world. I think we evolved as a species a bit too quickly and are still sticking to old archaic laws and rules and attitudes which leads to double standards against both sexes and that it is important to take a double standard on a case by case basis. IE not think that no matter what the situation women will always get it worse, or men will get it worse, and get resentful if someone is talking about a double standard against only one sex in this instant as that means that "they don't care about the others." It doesn't as long as you are prepared to call out both.

I'll happily call out the double standard against Gina which 100 percent was a sexist one of women getting twice as much shit when talking about politics as men (hence why that ghastly LGBT reddit page views her as the devil incarnate for beep boop bop, but views Arnie as a guy of his time for banning their right to get married!) However there are other areas men suffer double standards like for instance I think insecurity in men is seen as weakness. They don't get support with certain issues they may be facing that way, where as with women if she's insecure say about her looks everybody will want her to feel better about herself and white knight. Also sexuality breeds double standards both ways, where a guy who is a virgin say in his 30s will be shamed as a pathetic loser, and get mocked for it at best. Most people will probably think he's a woman hater and a potential serial killer hence incel becoming an insult, whilst with women the reverse is true and we get disgusting terms like "run through too many times" obsessions over body counts if a girl was a bit of a fun party girl in her youth, slut shaming and even just slut being an insult when there is no male version of that word etc.

I also believe that elitism is the true enemy of both the left and the right and is a different political class on its own. You can have a healthy left and right working together which the UK did in the 50s and the 60s and thrived as a result. Elitism however which in the UK I feel took over in the late 70s, early 80s seeks to keep the rabble at the bottom and exploited and will use tribalism of any kind to do that, both by keeping us fighting among ourselves and duping us into thinking they are supporting our tribe, which is all the left vs right shit is. They'll turn us against neighbours like Gina Carano herself warned using the left and right drama and make certain sides think they have an illusion of control when a candidate gets in that supposedly represents the left like Obama or the right like Trump, whilst very little changes. Under Obama, Biden and Trump, Assange rotted in jail, the use of drone strikes went up, there were war crimes under all three, in Libya for Obama, Venezuala for Trump, Palestine for Biden, the black community suffered under all three, immigrants were kept in cages under all three, the culture war raged under all three and most Americans still live on skid row and struggle for life saving medicare under all three. Sure there have been the odd, minor concessions like Obama care or maybe one law to pander to the base, but overall, no the system remains largely unchanged.

To me tribalism, greed and guilt free bullying are responsible for most of the evils of humanity and we are ALL prone to it, every political, racial, minority or majority group. Basically it boils down to the greedy use tribalism to divide and conquer and rule and the enticement of guilty free bullying to justify and push people into crushing enemies.

Gina Carano meanwhile may not be completely on my side, but she is NOT an extremist, she is a good person and she is a very special talent and in all honesty a very important role model to women. Female strength has become a much more polarizing topic today. So many hollywood movies that don't even try and cast realistic action women has bred this idea that women can never realistically overpower a men and people, both men and women thinking that even the most trained women couldn't beat up a guy on the street. (Seriously I got into an argument with a guy on X who thought his fat, 60 year old Janitor could beat up Ronda Rousey.)

Obviously men on average are physically stronger than women due to sexual dimorphism, but its not to that insane extent where women are made of plasticine and men are Kryptonians. That kind of thinking does not lead to a healthy society as it infantilizes women, makes them terrified and resentful of men, yet also easier to control and also makes men uncomfortable around women and easier to manipulate out of guilt too by elitists from both sexes.

Gina however obviously breaks that down, being a woman who could kill 99.9 percent of men on earth, who is also still unbelievably feminine looking with it, and to top it off she IS a good actress, having a surprising range throughout her career and is passionate about film making, particularly genre fiction.

That I and other fans, particularly young girls who need a good role model like that had to lose out on someone like Gina for half a decade because of the most petty tribalism is an absolute crime and that's why among other things I'll always defend her despite being more left than she is.
