Thanks for the welcome and question! I really enjoyed a lot of aspects of Spike's arc throughout the show after season two. Seeing the flashbacks of how he was before he got sired by Drusilla and his past with her and how he killed the two slayers was super awesome (I also loved his flashbacks with Angelus and the rest of the Whirlwind in general). I liked seeing him bond with Dawn and Joyce and how much he cared about Buffy in the last few seasons. It was good to see him do good the times that he does and how he sacrifices himself at the end of the show. In short, I love Spike when he is a villain and when he does good so I was cool with the way they took his character. No matter how much he changes it seems, he still retains the same attitude pretty much and the fight in him that makes him cool. However, I would have preferred if he had stayed evil and maybe only helped Buffy and the other scoobies occasionally when it served his interests or something like that. I would have liked Drusilla to have been on the show more and for her and Spike to have stayed together ultimately.

I agree those are good points about Angelus and Dru. He is also her sire so that probably plays a factor in it as well in that she probably feels a strong connection towards him. Spike still means a lot to her but when Angelus is around she is more drawn to him.

I also find it interesting how Dru persistently refers to Angelus and Darla as "Daddy" and "Grandmummy" denoting the family line, but never refers to Spike as her "son". In "Lies my parents told me" she has the line "I'm the other who gave birth to your son" eg she sired Spike and brought him into the vampire world, but she never claims ownership of him as her son which seems odd as she keeps to the family names for Angelus and Darla. This could suggest that she instantly viewed Spike as a lover and partner rather than the next "generation" in the family line.

And that makes sense I'm glad that Spike stayed on the show and at times I did enjoy the Spuffy moments but would much rather have Spike and Dru together than them. I noticed that too about her being mentioned and showing up in flashbacks. Like when Giles was trying to get Spike to figure out his trigger in "Lies my parents told me" he didn't just remember his memories with his mother that affected him but him and Dru first being together and seeing his house. That to me shows how important his relationship with her was to him.

Spuffy was good when it was played for laughs such as in "Something blue" but I would've rather Spike and Dru stayed together as well. I think Spike does still have strong feelings for Dru, if she ever found her self in trouble, he would ride to her rescue even if they weren't romantically entangled..

That sounds like a really good idea for a fan fic. Are you going to post it on here when you finish it? I would really like to read that. 🙂

I intend to post it on here when it's finished, it still a work in process though and I don't want to rush it so it could be a while.

Yeah, I don't think Angelus or Dru thought about that beforehand, but Angelus and Dru seem to like the suffering and mayhem than just feeding and action like Spike.

Agreed. I also think that perhaps that is why Spike was able to adapt to having a soul easier than Angel did. Spike was only in it for "the rush" so nothing he did was ever personal whereas Angelus focussed on the victims because he considered what he did as an "art".

I feel the same way. Dru told Angelus and Darla that she was lonely because Angelus paid too much attention and affection to Darla and not enough to her. Dru wanted a lover and companion of her own and she found that in Spike which is why she sired him. At that point, she already had the paternal and maternal aspects of a family so she felt she was lacking a partner she could share her eternal life with which is why she wouldn't consider him her "son."

He definitely would. From his little speech about how much she means to him in "Crush" to Buffy and his reminiscing of her during season seven, it is clear she is always going to be on his mind and in his heart. It would have been better if Spike and Buffy became somewhat good friends rather than Spuffy if something had to happen between them. After Buffy lived her life, I could see Spike and Dru coming back together again at some point since they're both immortal. It would be tough though since Spike has a soul now and is pretty much a good guy now.

No worries, whenever you finish it, I look forward to reading it! I totally agree about Spike adjusting to his soul easier because of that. Thanks for this discussion by the way, it's been very interesting and you have a lot of good insights! There's just so much that can be discussed about Spike and Drusilla, they're just so interesting in their own arcs and together as a couple 🙂
