New IDW Series Announced! (spoilers)

IDW had a panel at the New York Comic-Con where Brian Lynch (writer) and Chris Ryall (editor-in-chief) announced good news for Angel fans.

The IDW panel opened up with Brian Lynch and Chris Ryall announcing the following:

Brian Lynch and Juliet Landau spoke over Facebook about how she was intrigued by what's going on in the story and Spike's story. From that conversation they are now going to be co-writing a 2-shot for IDW about Drusilla.

They also spoke about some sort of Gunn story (apparently Gunn's alive in Kelley Armstrong's Angel: Aftermath....or something).

Finally, the announced that they are doing a Spike Comic written by Lynch and it has an indefinite issue amount as of now. I think Lynch's words were "we'll keep doing it until people get sick of it".

Spike's already been done to death! His story has been told.

How about spin offs for Lorne instead?

But I'm liking the news about the Dru comics. Very cool.

Is it just me or is this not fun anymore? That'll be, what, at least five comics going out, in varying states of (intentionally vague) canonicity now? Will they just keep multiplying "until people get sick of it"?
 
I for one can't wait, i no longer care about Aftermath, i just want Spike and Dru's comics

Somebody really needs to extract some hints from Joss about canonicity issues. He's not in control of the comics numbering... that's the decision of IDW, possibly influenced by Fox. If they wanted to put out non-canon comics while still maintaining the air (and sales) of canonicity, continuing the numbers would be the way to do it. But that's no indication of how Joss feels.

Frankly, issue #17 is the last one I'm accepting as undisputed canon until I hear otherwise.
 
There's gonna be a Gunn oneshot too. probably set in the middle of Aftermath seeing as he's
comatose atm

And The Dru comics are gonna be as canonical as Aftermath, there's crossovers! =D

I'm looking forward to a new Brian Lynch penned Spike series - should be cool. Although I was hoping that he would do a guesty in Season 8 and now i'm wondering how this new book will effect that the likelyhood of that happening....
 
This means that there will likely be no Spike for Season 8 in the foreseeable future. Sad about that. But I would love a Spike series. Hopefully Spike leave L.A and goes somewhere else like New York or Miami. I hope this series includes Tok, Beck and Betta George.

I'm not sure if I will continue to Angel series. Angel was never a very interesting character to me on his own. I didn't start watching Angel until Season 3. Characters like Wes, Cordelia, Gunn and Fred were of more interest to me. With all of them gone, I doubt characters like Nina and Gwen will keep my interest. Angel needs a strong supporting cast like Spike, Illyria, Wes, Gun and Lorne. Nina and Gwen are second tier supports at best.

He writes Spike VERY well and it would be lovely to know what Dru's been up to all this time!
I can't wait. But, I'm a fan. And I want more George!

If they'd just figure out how to sync the time-line it would work out a lot better. I believe that for the most part, the DOZENS of Marvel & DC comics, respectively, are completely synced with periodic crossovers between titles (I don't follow them, so I'm not 100% sure). Personally, I'd love that.

I think it would be pretty amazing if there were five titles running simultaneously:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season ___
Angel
Spike
Faith
Tales

Tales would cover stories too far outside the scope of the four main titles. And all four would have frequent crossovers to at least some extent. Canonicity wouldn't be an issue if we had synced time lines and frequent crossovers, even of secondary characters.

Angel #01-05 = After the Fall, Vol. 1
Angel #06-08 = First Night
Angel #09-13 = After the Fall, Vol. 2
Angel #14-17 = After the Fall, Vol. 3
Angel #18-22 = Aftermath
Angel #23 = Gunn one-shot
Angel #24-25 = Drusilla two-shot
Angel #26-... = ????
 
I thought the Drusilla two-shot was a supposed to be separate from the Angel series but within the same timeline.

Aftermath runs past #22.
 
Aftermath runs 5 issues. And Chris Ryall confirmed that the Drusilla two-shot will fall in the numbering of the regular series.
