New Leader of AI

Why was it necessary for Wesley to become the leader of the new AI agency in Season 2? Because he was more educated than Cordelia and Charles? Since when does education is a must for leadership? A person either has the personality and presence to lead others, or he or she doesn't.

Both Cordelia and Charles had possessed personalities that would have made each of them a better leader than Wesley. And Charles had the experience. So, I really cannot see the necessity to make Wesley the leader.
 
I think that as said before.... Wesley was really the only one who volunteered to do it. Nobody else showed an interest in being the 'leader', so he felt it necessary to take it upon his shoulders.

As Feigenbaum said, Wesley just fell in the roll. Gunn led his gang sure, but I don't think he would have wanted to lead AI, especially as he only just joined. Besides, Wesley had training in leading others, albeit a slayer but still.
 
Why was their really the need for a leader, they should have had a more communist approach i mean they could have all made decisions together which would have been better otherwise you could have ended up with a buffy style dictatorship, which never ends well!!!

Afterall they did all sing "we are the champions" meaning they are equals and decisions should be made as a group
 
Wesley became the leader because of many factors, here are a few that I could think of.

1) Angel betrayed the gangs trust

2) Wesley is a natural born leader, but it has only been seen the few times

3) Like any good leader, Wesley took his job seriously and tried to set an example for the others

4) Wesley is knowledge guy, he knows stuff, and if he doesn't he's looking it up

5) they all are champions in their own right
 
Cordelia wasn't at the point in her journey yet where she would be able to effectively take control of the group and Gunn didn't have the knowledge Wesley had in regards to the supernatural and how to fight anything he couldn't pulverize at that point either.
 
I dont think it was really like necessary for wesley to become leader, it just kinda happen, he was ready to take charge... I think that even though Gunn seemed ready, he in a sense wasn't he was still new to the group, plus i dont think it was like he was really in charge i think it was more like co partener ship lol
 
Would you have let Gunn lead? I wouldnt. Not back then. If he was the leader, what he said would have to go. He'd get them all killed.

And Cordy hadn't matured enough at this point. She couldnt lead. Wes was the obvious choice. He'd been a Watcher. He had what it takes to lead. Even if it took him til after Buffy to realise it.
 
I actually think i would let Gunn lead, he was basically leader of his gang, and they werent doing to bad, I really dont think he'd get them killed, but i also still dont think he was really ready to take on that group yet... but i mean he wouldn't have done tooo bad as a leader, since we already saw some leadership out of him before he was with AI...
 
Yeah he took care of his gang but look how. living on the streets. Stealing to eat. And they still got killed.And when they got killed he went straight out for revenge. he was too impulsive and angry to lead. Wes was in a better position. thinking things through before rushing out to kill.
 
Thats true but also the gang weren't in a real business getting money for killing demons hense the living on the streets and stuff with AI they were asking for money, yes he was impulsive and angry, but sometimes thats what makes the best leader thats Passion... yes it can also lead to downfall but anything can, Look at wesley he wasn't exactly leader material because his idea's weren't always the greatest look when angel went back and all when wesley was still the leader...
 
Yeah but that was later on. When they needed a new leader I just dont think Gunn was appropriate at that time.
Plus the fact that Wes is older and has been a Watcher or a watcher in training for a while. Whereas Gunn has just been the muscle. He said it himself in season 5. You need more than muscle to be a leader. Wes had the knowledge as well as the experience.
 
True, but like i said i dont think really any one specifically was really the leader of the group i mean it was said wesley was but i think they were all pretty much in it together, there wasn't really a leader persay just a group of people who fought demons for money...
 
Yeah the gang ended up really close and did everything together until Angel came back. Then wes was the leader.
 
As you might remember Wes himself was very insecure about his leadership at first. He often hastily retreats when Angel takes charge without thinking. Belittled and insecured by his fathers resentments Wesley has actually problems in taking charge himself when a strong leaderfigure like Angel is around.

But he finds out that he is strong and smart enough to have earned his position as the leader of the AI team when he takes charge in the Pylean rebellion. He gains self confidence and true leadership in Pylea and neither he nor Angel and AI never question his leadership skills again after that fight.

Very simple reasons why Wes was made leader

1) Cordy - Could handle herself to some extent but was clearly the weakest of the four

2) Gunn - One of his plans involved getting the shit beat out of him by cops. Nuff Said

3) Wes - Always makes the diffcult decsions, evident since Buffy Season3 when he was willing to sacrafice Willow for the world but was overruled

Wesley was the only one that could have taken on that role at the beginning.

Cordelia. My gosh, I love her but there is no way on this beautiful lushious planet did that girl have any amount of confidence in the right area to be a successful leader at that time. Had this been season 3(late season 3) then sure, she'd have been fine, but then no.

Gunn, he again is a splendid character at the beginning of season 2. We even know that he is a good leader because of his gang....HOWEVER he had split loyalties for that season. It would not have been effective for him to be the leader of Angel Investigations.

Wesley although a tad off he was intellectually sound to run the group, he did have a certain amount of confidence that he knew what he was doing.
Plus, I also get the feeling that Cordy and Gunn manoeuvered him into that position.
 
It's interesting that many assume that Wes made the natural leader of AI, considering his background with the Watcher's Council.

Yet, Charles had more experience actually fighting supernatural beings and had been the leader of a gang. Combined this with his natural intelligence and his personality, I think he would have made a natural leader of the AI just as much as Wes. But I guess that most think the same way as Fred does . . . he's the "muscle" and nothing else.

By the way, I'm still upset that Wes and everyone else believed that he had the right to threaten Charles with being fired. Yes, Wes was the leader of AI when they were involved with cases. But Wes, Charles and Cordelia were still equal partners in the agency. Wes should have threatened Charles with the possibility of him and Cordelia asking Charles to end the partnership, not threatened to fire him.
