New posts are old, old ones are new

The "New Post" link at the top of the page directs me to posts I've seen over, and read them top to bottom. There are old posts that I haven't read that aren't coming up new. Also, the post count is way off. Last night, it read 22 new posts when two threads showed up with 5 replies each. Any suggestions as to what's going on?
 
I had some problems but it got sorted when I cleared my cookies.

Do you use the 'mark posts read' function once you have read them?
 
No, I don't. But what I used to do, is refresh the page, and all would be ok. That's not the way it is anymore.

Should I do that?
 
When you've read all the threads, or those that you want to, go to Quick Links at the top of the page and then select mark forums read. This will set all the new posts back to 0. So when you click on view new posts after that it will only show posts timed after you cleared all the new posts.

Sorry I should have made that clear in my first post, thats what I was getting at when I said it sorted mine, then got sidetracked when I remembered the view new posts thing.
