I live a very spoiled life. I don't know how to cook. If my girlfriend decides to cook (which is often), I eat it. If my son-in-law, who is a red seal chef, decides to cook, I eat it. If my daughter (who is a better cook than either of them) decides to cook, I eat it. Tonight was my son-in-law's chicken pasta salad with rotini for the pasta.

Life is good.

I had a craving for ham and cheese sandwiches. But I can only afford it if I take the half price chocolate off the shopping order. Chocolate won. Lets hope the chocolate is in stock!
 
That feeling you get when you have just scanned and packed all your shopping at the self-checkout and the fracking till crashes so you have to go and do it all again at another one.

I've had a bunch of cop and medical dramas appear on my Instagram recently. Some I recognise like House and Greys Anatomy,but a bunch I didn't know. So I scrolled through Netflix and have just been watching New Amsterdam. Like you do when you have housework and other things to procrastinate on.

Oh its perfect to procrastinate too, because it is just so so so bad! Actually its one of those shows that made me realise how big the political gap has become. The brainwashing in mass media is real, and new Buffy wont be immune.
At least it wasnt as scary as The Resident, but neither are on the sheer lunacy level of Chicago Med. Now thats a bad medical soap I cant get enough of lol.

@hoponlilmama I loved the first few seasons of House, but I gave up after the team switching and the whole Cameron/Chase thing.
 
@nightshade I can understand why you ran out of steam with House. Sometimes I too wanted to bail out, but HL was just so good that I saw it through to the end. Definitely a series that went on for too long though.
 
I watched the first couple of seasons of House, and now I have access to it again I keep wondering about watching the rest. Though it is the only medical drama I have ever been able to watch (I am not keen on the icky medical stuff!), possibly because the puzzle solving drew me in. I did notice it was becoming very predictable at that point; I think it was three misdiagnosis then the correct one in the vast majority of cases.
 
I could never get into House but I always wanted to cos Billy from neighbours was on it and he was cute ๐Ÿ˜

Even though the last few seasons weren't as good, I'll still champion the series and encourage people to watch it. HL was perfectly cast, the writing was sharp. It just overstayed its welcome.

And in this case the introduction of newer characters didn't sit well.

If you want a convincing American accent... hire a Brit. ๐Ÿ˜€ (I will say that Buffy had three of the most convincing fake British accents I have come across; Wesley, Spike and Giles. Yes, I know ASH is British, but his real accent is closer to Ripper's in Band Candy and Spike's.)

Overstaying its welcome is hardly a novelty, sadly. That probably applies to the vast majority of series that didn't get cancelled after the first one or two seasons; there are more than a few who never got past that point which it would have been better to renew that those that got 6+seasons.

I still find it jarring even now to hear Alexis and James speak with their natural American accents. ASH very rarely because whilst different it's not a huge leap.

What tipped me off with James were certain words he pronounced with an American accent; soon as Spike said 'can't' I figured something was off!

Yes. It's something we've briefly discussed in the past. Most series are greenlit for 5 seasons - with a plan in place. Extending a series beyond that point more often than not usually hurts it. Which is why you often see televisions shows that peak around their 4th or 5th season.

And yes, there have been shows cancelled too early where the audience deserved more!

I have seen Alexis in three other things since I think; Legacies (British accent), Grimm (British accent) and How I Met Your Mother (American accent; very weird). I also saw James in PS I Love You this year, the first time since I saw him in Buffy, and that also sounded weird!

ASH probably seems more different to a Brit. And you often hear British actors talking with accents other than their own. Patrick Stewart using his genuine Mirfield/Huddersfield dialect in this clip is nigh-on incomprehensible to most!

Definite differences with ASH, but I mean it wasn't as jarring to hear a Brit accent suddenly turn American.

The GN clip and this talk of changing tones and accents reminds me of the delightful Gillian Anderson, who often flips between her English and American accent. I remember being very thrown off by that!

Even I struggle with Sir Pat's genuine dialect and we were born a couple of miles from each other! And more than a few decades apart, admittedly. However, in Yorkshire, a couple of miles can make a dialect difference; not as much as it once did by the sounds of it, but I would have pronounced "larkin" differently, as I have written it there.
