Even I struggle with Sir Pat's genuine dialect and we were born a couple of miles from each other! And more than a few decades apart, admittedly.

I must admit I replayed that part a couple of times when he spoke.

However, in Yorkshire, a couple of miles can make a dialect difference; not as much as it once did by the sounds of it, but I would have pronounced "larkin" differently, as I have written it there.

I just remembered something else (in regards to ASH and differing accents); do you watch Outlander? Sam Heughan puts on a thicker Scottish accent as Jamie, but in real life it's a lot more subtle. I was briefly disappointed at this discovery. 😂

Craziness! To be so close, yet to have a range of dialects and accents.

Fair. There are a number of scenes that can be quite confronting (I found myself having to pause to take a breather, or look away).

My Chicago itinerary...

Spoiler: LONG

I got in Tuesday afternoon. I walked 15 mins to & from grocery store for breakfast foods
He got in late that evening. We took long walk in search of any open bar in the neighborhood
Didn't find anything open in that area, but we talked & got caught up while wandering round till like 2am!

Wednesday: the first full day we went to University area & seen Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House
My friend wanted to stroll by his old dorm & had lunch at his fave restaurant in the area
Then we strolled thru the neighborhood round Wrigley Field before the Cubs game
We meandered for while looking for someplace to nab late dinner.
we then took train back to nearby area & walked back to airbnb

Thursday: we went to the Art Museum. Then we nabbed lunch at some Venezuelan chipotle-esque place
My friend went back to museum while I checked out some sights in park & walked up the lakefront
Met back up at the aquarium. Was maybe an hour before it closed & we opted out cuz it was pricey for allotted time
We took train back to next neighborhood over (near Sox stadium) & walked back to the airbnb (in Chinatown)

Friday - was gonna be a walk heavy day & my friend bowed out since his feet were sore (new shoes)
I took train up to Gold Coast (wealthy area). Walked thru neighborhood. Then up Lake Shore dr
That's almost right by lake. It becomes 'Magnificent Mile'. Walked thru that too
Then took a short detour & strolled along Navy Pier before doubling back to River Walk
Nabbed lunch at Smashburger and bit later got chocolate shake from ghirardelli's.
Walked to Cloud Gate before I meandered the River Walk. By then my feet were pretty tired.
So doubled back to nearby AMC 'dine in' theater. Watched The Accountant 2.
After that I took train to sox stadium area & walked back to airbnb
My friend needed to mail some postcards. Told him that there was blue mailbox like 2 mins up street
He came back with 4 small cups of ice cream from the place up street that I mentioned earlier that I never got to try
He's such a sweetie sometimes! He got vanilla, chocolate, strawberry & butter pecan.
We split the 1st three. He was on his own with the butter pecan. No TYVM! 😉

We left the next day. We took the same train but got off diff places (him to longer train home/me airport 🙂

My friend got me on to Outlander, and I loved it immediately. What annoys me is gratuitous scenes of violence (especially when a series becomes popular that wasn't overly violent in the beginning suddenly has gore on display) I really dislike that kind of content.

NAS, I'd say it's worth jumping back into the series, despite what we discussed above. But everyone has their limits, so it's understandable if you choose not to. Maybe just stick to the books instead?!

I was kind of enjoying it up to when I stopped, but yeah, certain types of gratuitiousness, whether it be sexual violence, nudity or the sudden appearance of gore, can be a bit offputting, especially if they seem to be put in merely to titillate or shock, rather than because they serve the story.

Yeah its still a great fantasy story without all the gross stuff. It didnt have to be so extreme and it would still have the same fanbase - possibly even more fans! Its not as bad on the re-watch because I know what to expect and which bits I want to skip.

I've often joked to friends that a pop-up should appear and say, "If you're squeamish, close your eyes now," for something gory/frightening, and then tell me when to open them again when it's over. 😆

Unfortunately its not uncommon in so many otherwise good shows now.
The ten second fast forward option on Netflix should be more like 30 seconds cos there are just so many scenes on so many shows that I need to skip bits on.

The issue is not knowing, often scenes of violence happen so fast you don't get the chance to look away.

I think streaming has made a difference to such things, as it seems that streamers may be able to get away with more.

Last night I had a disturbing dream/nightmare of Angelus. I really did not like being hunted by him. And it got gross, too.

Some dream portions weren't of me, but similar to me watching the show, only I was there. He changed Joyce into a vampire, because he wanted to force Buffy to kill her (remembering how Buffy reacted when she thought Angel had attacked Joyce). But then it has long been my headcanon that such was his goal just before Buffy and Willow "changed the locks."

I somehow screwed up two doors on the truck while applying WD40. I remember sticking my finger in the door locks, checking that all parts were covered with the spray. Now the doors won't close completely. I examined them and immediately noticed a latch (or something) wasn't where it was supposed to be.

After trying to fix it myself, I finally gave up and called AAA. Hope they can rectify this situation because there's NO WAY my truck is sitting out there all night with doors that are partially open.

It's called a "trigger warning" in a lot of university arts classes. And no, it doesn't mean Roy Roger's horse is about to trample you.

I find the ratings to be deceptive and wrong in Australia. Some things get R+ or MA+ ratings while other things that are far more triggering (suicide) get an M. I cant remember what outlander is rated, it probably should be R+, but for only maybe 30 minutes out of a 7 season show it actually requires that rating. I hate the shock factor stuff in shows that are otherwise not that extreme in plot.

I recently watched Electric State which has an M rating here. It has like two swear words in it. Totally not required for the movie, and it is otherwise a great kid/teen movie, who are all underage to watch it when its given an M rating.
