I am Aud
Heya, fellow Whedon Freak here!
I was just kicking around the house thinking about how much I miss this show. All of my real-life Buffy-Fan-Friends have kinda moved away or, like, started families and stuff (losers!) . . . so I don't get to really dig in and discuss things about Buffy or Angel with anyone anymore. So I came online and found this place! Yaaaaay!
A few things about my feelings toward the show: um . . . it's hard for me to pick a favorite season . . . my favorite finale would probably be a tie between S2 and the series finale (I know a lot of people didn't like it, and while I did think it needed to be a 2-hour affair rather than a standard 42-45 minute episode, I just loved the meaning of slayer power being released to all those girls, and the last conversation between Spike and Buffy. That whole scene was beautiful). But then for the overall character development and emotional punch . . . S2's finale wins for me.
The character that amuses me most is also a 3 way tie. It bounces between Willow, Xander, and Anya. I think Spike was the most complex character on the show, with the most interesting character arc. Although Anya's episode "Selfless" late in the series did give her a lot of depth.
Aaaaand the Biggie: Spuffy vs. Bangle (sidenote, both "spuffy" and "bangle" are probably the two stupidest-sounding psedo-words EVER). There seem to be a lot of STRONG feelings on this subject. As far as which relationship I found more interesting and layered? I'd have to say Spike and Buffy. I think they went through more together and developed a much more adult bond than when Buffy and Angel had. But I also feel that Buffy and Angel were a wonderful Love Story. Albeit, a Love Story suitable for a High School girl. Their love was pure, true, romantic . . . the typical first experience of true love. Our first loves always stick with us forever in some way, even when we move on to marry and have kids with someone else. That's how Buffy and Angel struck me. A transcendent love that will always be there . . . while Buffy and Spike had the sort of love that could withstand insane amounts of pressure, that required work, that compelled Spike to actually *fight to regain his soul* . . . (that gesture, by the way, was what convinced me that he truly loved her, despite having the soulless instincts of a monster), and that in the end (S7) proved to be a relationship and Buffy needed. So I think "Bangle" is legit in that there was an enduring love there. And "Spuffy" is legit in that the two achieved a kind of trust in, and support of another person that I don't think they had with anyone else.
Oh, and favorite Villain? The Mayor! Love the Mayor. "And boys? Let's watch the swearing." Kills me every time. :lmao:
Greatest line that has ever been uttered on Television: "Because, this was a snot monster from outer space . . . I did not just say that." 🙂
So. As you can see, I write friggin' novels. I didn't plan for this to be so long, but my Buffy fandom tends to bring out my inner rambler. And ramble she has. Done now. To recap: HI! (okay, done now.)
