New Slayer from second death?

LOL Jill. Why are you hiding your Faith gear?

Stormwolfe: I don't think Buffy survived just because she had the Scoobs there to bring her back or even because it was her show. I believe she was brought back 3 times because she was desperately needed.

Not saying anything bad about Faith or Kendra, its just Buffy is it. I mean there both great slayers and characters, but it just appears like in the end, Buffy always wins. She's probably the strongest, fastest and bestest Slayer ever, just because.

Maybe her friends play a huge part in this, but I think the PTB recognized the true potential in Buffy, seeing as how well she wielded the power and how she could change the world.

But each time Buffy was brought back, it was in defiance of the order of things. She's supposed to be dead. She was lucky Bowl Hair Priestley didn't appear to convince somebody else to kill her. Her friends were the Wild Cards that operated seperately from the Slayer line sphere of influence. I'm not saying it's a bad thing that she was around (All the merchandise has her name on it... and nobody wanted Taggart without Taggart...) and I'm not saying that she should just go and die like she's supposed to, although I generally briefly feel that way at the end of every season 7 episode. I'm not even saying that she's not THE Slayer.

What I am saying is that just as she is THE one and only Slayer, chosen from all the girls in her generation, so is Faith THE Slayer chosen from...well, you get the idea... It's a glitch that they exist together, but it doesn't diminish either girls status.

But the idea that Buffy is somehow still carrying the Slayer line does not make sense to me. The Slayer line, to have existed as it has for thousands of years, has to be stable enough to correct itself when something like that happens. I have wondered if the new Slayer Army won't collapse eventually too. All that power can't be limitless... and in about 300 years, we're going to be back to the one-and-only format.

There's three options. a) She doesn't want them to know about Faith, or what happened b) She doesn't have the time to explain it properly, and she doesn't figure they'll buy the Wacky Identical Cousin from England story or c) Continuity blunder. I'm inclined to go with c) because the S7 continuity was absolutely all over the place.

Other than Buffy's erroneous comment that the Slayer line went through her, I saw no signs of many continuity problems in S7. The only other problem I really had was the show's failure to explain the Bejorxa Eye's comment.

As for the whole Slayer line thingamabob, here is how it went:

At the start of the series, Buffy was the Slayer. She died briefly in "Prophey Girl" and Kendra became the Slayer. However, Xander revived Buffy back to life. She retained her Slayer strength, but the Slayer line no longer extended through her.

When Kendra died in "Becoming, Part 1", Faith became the new Slayer. And the Slayer line ended up extending through her, until Buffy and Willow changed the Slayer line in Season 7's "Chosen". In other words, if Faith had died any time between Kendra's death in "Becoming, Part 1" and "Chosen", a new Slayer would have been called. Buffy's death in "The Gift" did not change anything. Instead, Willow had merely resurrected her to her previous state (before her second death) in "Bargaining, Part 1".

As for Caleb's comment about Buffy being the "true and original Slayer", don't forget that she had been acting as the only Slayer with Faith first in a coma, and later behind bars. Also, Buffy was the only Slayer given responsibility by Giles to protect and later train the Potentials. The buck stopped with her "“ until Faith took over at the end of "Empty Spacs" (or is it Places?) for a brief period.

As I stated before, I've had this arguement before, and I'd like to make a request.

Would someone please give me an issue to debate with some meat on it. Something other than the continuous recitation of the slayer line - Buffy begat Kendra, and Kendra begat Faith, and so on. Believe it or not I've heard it (God have I heard it).

You've heard the arguement against the last Begat. Season 7 says the slayer line flows through Buffy and possibly still Faith, beginning with The bargaining in Season 6. Show me why that's not the case.

I'll post the high-light of the arguement because some of you seem to have missed it.

The First tells Buffy the line passes through her. Joss Whedon wrote the episode. Buffy believes the line passes through her. If Buffy believes it, it's a reasonable assumption Giles also believes. Call me crazy, but I'm going to suggest those two might even know as much about the begatting as Lady L does.

This one needs attention:

But the idea that Buffy is somehow still carrying the Slayer line does not make sense to me. The Slayer line, to have existed as it has for thousands of years, has to be stable enough to correct itself when something like that happens. Two slayers exist at the same time twice. One could make the arguement that this is an occurence that might happen only once in a million years. Beljoxa's eye tells us this occurence causes a "disruption in the slayer line".

As far as the slayer army collapsing to create one true chosen one again - well yeah that's what Fray is about, right?

I lost the link, but I'm pretty sure it's on this board somewhere. Joss Whedon promises to make that all make more sense when he gets around to doing another Fray. At least that's the way my memory remembers it.

Im not going to take sides in the whole Buffy Slayer line thing but apart from Cordy has anyone else on the show ever said it now runs through Faith? Just for the sake of jogging my memory.

And this is going to sound mad but could the "disruption in the slayer line" be what Willow did, the First could of been able to see it coming and wanted Buffy dead before there was Slayers everywhere. Maybe I'm being stupid.

I think thw whole disruption of the slayer line is what s7 was about. perhaps we are emant to be confused and debating. the first would never have got its fotthold otherwise. I believe buffy is the best. I mean whenever someone does kill her won't stay thay way, and she just keeps kicking butt. She is the first slayer out of faith and herself, the most experienced, the best. She does accept-no-substitutes althoguh a couple of times she toyed with the idea, and kendra hit it on the nose with the whole thing about it not being a job, but who she is.
Faith wasn't ready to lead, her personal growth has been stunted due to the mayor, herself and other things, and i will agree maybe she is a little reckless.
However I mus point out. Faith IS a slayer. everybit as strog as Buffy, every bit as powerful and she does carry the slayer line. Who knows if buffy now carries it too. The fact of the matter is faoth was the active slayeer for at least 4 years even if she didn't act in that capacity.
Here's a whacky suggestion. buffy didn't further change or alter te line with her second death, she had already done that in 'Prophecy girl', perhaps (and I know anya and giles pinpoint it to buffy's second death) her resurrection in s1 caused it. a power like the first was gathering must take a while to build, recruiting caleb, testing the waters in s3, or perhaps his visit in s3 alerted him to that aleration, he may have sensed it when he/she/it met buffy then. I dunno. like i said a whacky idea.

Okay, I'm going to say this one last time.

The Slayer line ceased to go through Buffy, after she died in "Prophecy Girl" and Kendra was called. Faith only became the Slayer, because Kendra died in "Becoming, Part 1". Only Faith's death before the end of the series would have called forth a new Slayer, not Buffy's death. Kendra was the only Slayer who was called upon Buffy's death.

It's an interesting theory, but other than repeatedly saying it what proof to you have.

Beljoxa's eye says there is a disruption in the slayer line. The First Evil, and Buffy say a slayer can be called upon her death. Joss Whedon wrote the episode where the First Evil said this.

Why should I take your word over that of Joss?

Then why does a Joss written episode claim this?

Yeah after Prophecy Girl she couldn't call another Slayer, but the Gift and Bargaining changed it all!

Bringing her back did have consequences, such as the corruption in the line of the Slayer, and while two Slayers would be a corruption, it wouldn't nearly be the corruption that would occur if there were two Slayers with the ability to call another Slayer each. This is why the First was able to attack. I mean, I think Joss would know, since everything he says is Buffy-law!

I think we need to chalk it up to they needed to explain it a bit more in the show. I mean...i dunno, i just wanna know cos it bugs me everytime someone says buffy's death will make one of the potentials a slayer. it really bug me, i don't care if buffy carries the line too now i just wanna know. :-(
