I don't think there is a age limit, I think the power passes to a 15/16 year old because there the best candidate for it, but just say there were no potentials aged between 15-18, it would probably go to someone over 18. Because the next line after Kennedy says that is by The First/Eve it says its never too late.

Lol, 18 yeah..who knows.. But I am 98.9% sure that they would not have called anyone over their late 20's..wouldn't be a point. And Buffy did say a few seasons ago..that the average age of a slayer was what 23,24?

I dont think there is an age limit in the sense you cant be a slayer, just an age limit in the sense that the PBT's pick younger fitter potentials. what i think, the people PTB(who ever controls who makes a potential) mark out every year a small number of new borns to be potentials, this then covers their backs, as lets face it the chances of going through so many slayers a year, so for arguments sake, 100 people are tapped a year. This means into every single year there are 100 people to choose from. The slayer line picks the person best suited, BUT it varies between 13-18(IF Faith is indeed older then Buffy) BUT that said, being a potential is for life, so if that ability is in you once, its in you forever....so IF the Current Slayer were to last longer then expected....and Kennedy(for arguments sake) was 22 BUT still the best choice, she could be picked....this also means if Buffy 'switched on' every potential that was living at the time, that would be from new born to old age activated.

I just thought of something, We've been wondering if young slayers were activated by Willows spell, well I think they were because Willow activated EVERY potential, And you are a potential from birth, if we look at Fray, She has the strength of a Slayer while her brother Harth has the physic abilities of the Slayer, and there is only one way he could have got them, at the moment of conception the embryo was activated as a potential, then when it split (as twin ones do) the powers of the 'potentialness' was also split, because if Fray was only activated as a potential later on in her life there would be no explanation why Harth would also be activated, So then the potential was in both of them, then when the power came to them they both got parts of it. That's why I believe Slayers have the potential from the moment they are born 🙂

I really don't think that age should have mattered. I have a dark suspicion that it mattered to Joss Whedon . . . for reasons I don't want to harbor upon.

Ok I was just outside looking at the stars thinking about buffy. The thought crossed my mind how old is faith, i was thinking she could actually be older than buffy.

I then continued to justify this theory by thinking of kennedy who was, i assume 18+ and she was still considered a possibility for being a slayer, even though it was less likely. Therefore at this age it must be possible for kennedy to be chosen.

This then lead me to thinking how old do you have to be before you lose the potential to be a slayer or where its impossible or at least improbably to become a slayer. I then began to think why are slayers always so young, surely someone older would be better suited to dealing with the stresses of being a slayer.

At first i thought maybe its because the shadowman thought it would be easier to control a younger girl or maybe the slayer has to be around the same age of the first slayer.

I then began to think if they have to be around the slayer why is the age range of potential a few years surely it should be more narrow. I then began to think of something i learned in psychology about a critical period, where children have to develop attachments or develop language before the end of the period otherwise they would be incabable of doing so.

So i thought perhaps its possible that there is a critical period in which you can become the slayer, maybe a young girl is the only person who could become a slayer for some reason unknown, maybe its connected to puberty or something.

This would explain why in the last episode of buffy we dont see any slayers who look above the age of 20, they're all quite young. Maybe the reason there are no older slayers or sixty year old slayers floating about, at least as far as we know is because they have already gone past the age of being able to become a slayer.

What do you think, i kind of like the idea of a critical period and I know thats a long thought process to reach such a small conclusion but thats me lol so what do you think?

I still think that the whole potential thing is related to a critical period but i couldn't be bothered writing the post from fresh so i quoted myself lol
