Ooh, cool photo! I've seen as much of the film itself as I want to before I actually see it, but non-spoilery goodies like that are fun. I'm pretty excited about this, despite the problems with the Prequels; hopefully they've learnt their lesson.
 
LOL I absolutely love Carrie Fisher and Gary. She's so cutting and honest and funny.

 
I just got back from seeing the movie, and my first impression was, "Mehhhhh..." Don't get me wrong, it's an enjoyable movie, but just how many dog fights in outer space and lightsaber battles do we have to see? The first trilogy was a pure wonderment, and the special effects were a wonderment that enhanced, rather than dominated, the story. The second trilogy wasn't as good. They should have kept Liam Neeson, and killed Jar Jar Binks. This new, and, apparently, final trilogy is just a rehash of what has gone before, the same action, the same story line.

Maybe I've just become too jaded to feel the thrill anymore.
 
What did you all think of the new movie. I thought it was about as good as Abrams' Star Trek films.

Yeah I think he was a really good fit as director, although it was the witty script which really made the film. It maybe the best Star Wars to date, but then I'm none fan.

I rather disliked his Star Trek films, but I think Star Wars was absolutely phenomenal. The direction and editing was light years better than in the Star Trek movies, especially the first one.
Unlike some people online, I don't mind the story kind of mirroring A New Hope: McGuffin in form of a droid falls into the hands of a young protagonist living under rather poor conditions, there's a new death star,... you get the idea. I think it works perfectly well and the story is simple enough and a great set-up for more adventures. Now they can take the series in a more interesting direction when Rain Johnson takes over.
I also heard a lot of people bitching about Kylo Ren's character and how he's a wuss and all that. I thought that was rather great. It's the exact opposite of what you'd expect. He's struggling, he's a real character. If you think about it, what was Darth Vader in the very first film? An evil guy in a suit. No motivations, no character development, nothing.

Have you read the book? Many of the little nit-picks and things that brought the movie down were alleviated in the book. It actually improves upon movie.

Didn't mind it much either, also it sold what an egomanic he was. I preferred the character once the Hood came off, before that he just seemed like a cheaper version of Darth Vader. Adam Driver turned in a good performance too.

I hope we are going to see more of Oscar Issac in the next film.

No, I never read those Star Wars books.
 
I never read them before but I was told to read it so I did. It was worth the read. It answered a lot of little things the movie simply glossed over.

I enjoyed the movie, thought it was lot of fun. Better than his Star Trek movies, which I do like actually. I might even see it one more time in the theatre. Maybe. lol.
 
I liked it. I've seen some critisism and honestly, some people will just never be satisfied with anything that isn't the original trilogy. I love the originals, but I can objectively say that they weren't always THAT good as some people make them out to be.

This movie very much captures the essence of the franchise. Sure the story was pretty predictable, but it wouldn't be the first time they reash plot points, episode iv and vi already show that. I'm just happy that the plot made sense, and we got to see some old favourites back. And the new characters were really good.
