New type of bubble wrap WON'T pop!

I am one of those people who become an absolute SPAZ whenever I get my hands on some bubble wrap. I start squeezing the little plastic bubbles, and the earth stands still...nothing else matters, except for that thoroughly satisfying "pop!" between my fingers. Sigh.

BUT THEY ARE NOW CHANGING THE WRAP SO IT DOESN'T POP! WHAT'S THE POINT?! 🙁

The fiends. I'm torn between seeking vengeance, or buying it to use as petty vengeance by finding a way to slip it to those I don't like...especially that one little boy who lives to make big noises. I'll put it in a present for his birthday, in a gift that will make him mad so he seeks to relieve himself by popping the bubble wrap to realize he can't, and make sure the candles on his birthday cake are trick birthday candles! And then act confused why his mother is so mad at me. Sign me up for the Big Bad club.

Why do they want to deny people joy?

Surely though, if you do the new bubble wrap in a way where all the air is forced up one end and you cut off its escape to the rest of the bubble wrap and you keep applying pressure, it must pop eventually as you're having a lot of air forced into a too small space? Maybe it'll require teamwork but it could be doable.

I was working at a place where we were doing remote sensing equipment many years ago, and one project I was on was a multi-spectral camera. This was a camera that looked out of the belly of an aircraft (our customer used a DC-3) and scanned from side to side as the plane flew along to create a strip picture of the ground under the flight path. The camera tube could be scanned forward and back to put it at a different wavelength on a colour filter, so you could fly a path looking for green trees then change colour to look for diseased trees. The core of the camera was an image dissector tube provided by the customer and worth $15,000. We were having trouble diagnosing some noise in the system, so I had to pull the tube out of its socket, with my boss and the technical director in attendance. The technical director had taken a dislike to me for some reason. As I was carefully pulling the tube out of its tight socket, my foot went back on a piece of bubble wrap and popped it. The technical director almost had a heart attack until I said it was just the bubble wrap. He really hated me after that. After a while we came to the realization - the noise we were seeing was shot noise, the minimum possible noise in the system caused by individual electrons, so nothing was wrong after all. The unit worked and was sold to a satisfied customer. And bubble wrap became my favourite item in the lab.
