New X-Files spinoff

Fresh off the 'success' of Star Trek: Lower Decks, Fox has announced they are proceeding with an animated X-Files spinoff, dubbed X-Files: Albuquerque. It won't feature Mulder and Scully but an inept FBI agent and his rookie partner. They investigate cases that are too "wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey" for normal agents to investigate.

Boy, does that sound good or what.

Oh yeah, totally. Because the charisma between Mulder and Scully, the thriller/horror storylines that left an entire generation of kids too afraid to go to bed, and the serious '70s government conspiracy vibe were totally not the appeal of the original show that made me bother to watch the series for the first time even after two decades.

Oh wait, they were the appeal. 😆

Sorry, but it's a hard pass.

yeah ... if it was live action maybe. animated no way. I think it's a shame the Lone Gunmen series never took off and they cancelled it. But I imagine a lot of the reason it failed was because the draw of the X Files is and always will be Mulder and Scully. Without them, it's just any other paranormal show - and God knows there are enough of them around. only worse, because this is a cartoon.

And who on earth wants to watch an incompetent and a rookie do the job? Mulder and Scully were some of the best at that bureau.

Well, to be fair, AFAIK, Mulder and Scully never did get to expose the existence of extraterrestrial, did they? It's not their fault because the government kept getting in their way, but still. That seems just like how real life government systems work though. No matter how much a bleeding heart wants to enforce a policy that helps people, there's always somebody getting in the way that sets those policies back by two decades.

And even David Duchovny said it himself: "Mulder's not a very good FBI agent because he never actually solved any cases." A hyperbole to be sure since he did actually managed to resolve some big crisis, but there you have it, straight from the actor's mouth. lol

Annnd now they want us to watch an actually incompetent government agent who definitely couldn't handle the big scary shadow agents the badass Mulder and Scully already had trouble dealing with? Yeah, no thanks.

That's where the comedy comes from I think. Should have mentioned it was a comedy if people are unfamiliar with Lower Decks.

Oh dear, yet another series about that stuff, the only thing that might help it succeed is the X-Files name.
On the bright side, as the programmers in this country are so crap I'll probably never get to see it.

Might take a look at the pilot, but I'm really not interested. If their going to reboot the X-Files they should do it properly in the style of the old series. All you need to update are the themes and maybe give it a bigger budget for some of the effects. I thought they were setting Lauren Ambrose and that guy up as the next Mulder and Scully when they appeared in the comeback series.

Is it a kids show? They've done a few X-Files for kids books over the last few years and this sounds in the same vein.
