Newbie looking for old FanFic

Hello there,
my name is Nicho and i'm looking for slash Fan Fiction about Buffy and Spike that predates their relationship in the original show. I'm currently writing my Bachelor Thesis about how fan fic can have influence on the development of TV series, so I want to look how the Buffy and Spike pairing was present in fan writings before it got written into the show and became part of the original canon.
Maybe there are some people here interested in fan fiction and can help me out with that?! It's not exactly easy finding fan writings that are around 15 years old...any help is appreciated!

We've got some hardcore Spike/Buffy fans here - I'm sure that they will help you. Personally, I'd ask around on the bloodshedverse or use the Spike/Buffy livejournal communities - that's where the old fandom people hang out, you might also check out some old mailing lists and whatnot. Some of them are seriously old ( or not even online anymore ) so use the wayback machine.

I did something similar once - I was interested when exactly did people start pairing Willow with other female characters in fan fiction. The earliest one that I found was from 1998 and it was a short Buffy/Willow story. Would love to see the faces of those slashers when Willow actually turned out to be gay. Yeah, one hell of a gaydar.
 
Afraid I can't help out, but welcome to the board! Interesting thesis choice though, you'll have to let us know what you find out. Not sure about this fandom, but I know a few other fandoms that I fallow have a lot of fics that predated the actual couple on the show. Sometimes I just think it's cause if two characters exist, someone somewhere will ship them together.

Nice to hear that some of you are interested in my topic 🙂 To be honest - not quite sure yet what i'll find out, basically I just wanna show that often fan fiction predict what's gonna happen in shows and that I think that fan fics might serve as a source of influence to the writers to see what fans would like to see in the show.

I already checked some buffyworld archives, but I'm honestly having troubles finding my way around there...wayback machine also doesn't really help me out, anyone here have an idea how to find old fan fics? They have to be somewhere, only problem is that most forums from the time of the show's run (e.g. The Bronze) are offline now...any help is appreciated!
 
The Buffy series aired at a time when the internet was young and not many people were on fan sites. Buffy may be the wrong show to use for your thesis - there is a lot of Buffy fanfic but most of it was written after the show ended, so it could not have influenced the writing on the show. You may have to actually find the writers and see if any of them were influenced by fan sites or were directed to write some particular piece because the producers or showrunner had read some excellent fanfic. You will have to close the loop in this way to show that the fanfic actually did influence any writing decisions. Certain characters gained a lot of popularity (or lost it) and had their parts augmented (like Spike) or curtailed (like Kate on Angel) as a result of it but fanfic was usually not the deciding factor.
 
Live journal used to be a hot bed of fanfic writing whilst the show was still airing. Sadly LJ seems to be dying on it's arse these days, but some of the old guard of Spuffy writers do still seem to be on there.
