Hey there -

First off, I am a huge Firefly fan and I loved Dr. Horrible and Dollhouse is on my "must watch list", so I guess you could call me a "lite" Whedon fan.
However, I have been very reluctant to get involved with Buffy or Angel, until now. Angel recently started replaying on TNT, and I happened to catch a few episodes. I recognized the Whedon influence in it and liked it.

Now, to the whole reason I'm posting - I realized upon watching the Angel episodes that I was missing some of the background and storylines from Buffy. I've since started watching Buffy from the beginning, and I'm just letting my DVR catch the Angel eps for now. I would really appreciate someone telling me what order I need to watch all the Buffy and Angel episodes in, so that I don't miss anything, and/or see some spoilers from either series. I am kind of a nut when it comes to spoilers, and all the web searches I do seem to bring up nothing but spoilers. I'd like to just watch both series, in chronological order and learn everything as I go.

I am also kind of a nut when it comes to doing things all the way - for example, I can't start watching something if I've missed the first minute, for fear of having missed something crucial to the storyline. I want to watch and/or read everything in order. So, along with the episode list, I would also appreciate any and all info on what books, comics, websites, whatever that I need to read as well, so that I can become fully immersed in the Whedon Verse of Buffy and Angel.

You can either post here, or email me personally. Whatever works.

Thanks in advance!

Nicole

welcoming karma!
I find it amazing that you're a Whedon fan without a Buffy/Angel influence, that's so great! Others will give you a run down on what to watch and how (as an Aussie I watched it all wrong so I have no idea!) but i just want to say hi and welcome! Hope you get into BtVS and AtS as much as Firefly and everything else!

Hi ndakatms! :welcome: We´re happy to have you with us. Even more so since you´re new to both Buffy and Angel. It´s great to see people finding their way in to this world not starting with one of those shows. Not that you are alone.

As far as watching the show. Angel doesn´t start until Buffy season 4 so watch the first 3 season of Buffy and then this is the way to go View Single Post - Watching Buffy Angel In Order.. Hopefully that helps. As far as comics and webistes go I´m sure someone else can fill you in. But it´s a big and complicated world.

Looking forward to seeing you around and hear you thoughts!

If you need any help don´t hesitate to drop me a line.

Except you. I didn't notice you posted the link. You're okay. Perhaps I should look more now. Maybe the meds are making me all wonky!

Ohhhhh...GRRRRR!
Sometimes you people are all over the welcomey parts and then get too excited and forget to address the question!

Welcome, by the way and click all those links they gave you and hang around for a long, long time. And once you do click around and get all spoilered, you'll find this handy link which will tell you the episodes to watch in order.
Luckily, you don't have to worry about Angel until Season 4 of Buffy.

Welcome to the boards! As TK and Lou already addressed the order question, I'll try and help with the comics. Firstly, Buffy Season 8 and Angel: After the Fall both come after the end of Buffy Season Seven and Angel Season Five respectively. So there's no need to worry about them yet. Angel: First Night and Spike: After the Fall also come after the end of everything.

Now, other than those, the only canon comics are Fray and The Origin. The Origin is an adaptation of Joss' original screenplay for the BtVS movie (which was butchered by the producers), and tells of Buffy's being called as a Slayer. It isn't essential by any means, but it comes before Season 1, so you might want to pick it up. It comes in the Buffy Omnibus Volume 1 (which can be easily found on Amazon), and I think you can find it on its own. If you get the Omnibus, the other comics probably have spoilers, so be careful. They are not, however, canon (that is, approved by Joss. They never actually happened in the Buffyverse.).

Fray, happens long after Season Seven, and should probably be read in between Season Seven and Eight. It is tied up with a storyline in Season Eight, so it's quite important if you are a completionist like you say!

Anyway, that's really all the comics that matter - the rest and the novels are all non-canon, so you can read them for enjoyment if you want, but they don't add to the overall story. Hope I was of help, and Welcome again!

Wow - thanks everyone for the welcomes and all the info!

I am nearly done with Buffy season two (just starting "Phases") - and I have to say, things are getting interesting. I have heard (well, read actually) that season three is supposed to be the season to watch, so I am looking forward to it. And I look forward to watching the two series together once I get done with season three.

I do love the references to the happenings in past episodes - like Oz looking at the cheerleading statue and saying the eyes are following him, and Zander asking the princess girl if she was a bug. I am glad that I decided to watch Buffy before I kept watching Angel eps. Some of the Buffy/Angel back-story baggage is making more sense now.

Luckily for me (sort of) I gave Buffy and Angel the cold shoulder when they were originally airing, and so I don't know too much of what things are going to happen, and I am trying to avoid all the spoilers I can. Also, as a plus to watching the shows late, I get to watch them commercial free thanks to wonderful modern day advancements such as DVDs and DVRs. I abhor commercials, and waiting til next week or next fall to see what happens. All I have to do is push a button, or pop in the next DVD and I'm off.

I'm sure I will be lurking around the boards and posting an opinion or two in the next little while, once I have an opinion to post.

Thanks again for the welcomes and the info! Feel free to let me in on any other trade secrets I need to know about!

Nicole
