Noxon Confirms Buffy Season 8

Despite rumblings that next season will be Buffy the Vampire
Slayer's last, executive producer Marti Noxon told SCI FI Wire
that she thinks an eighth season of the UPN show is likely, even
though its star's contract expires after season seven. "I think
that it's very likely there will be [a season eight]," Noxon said in
an interview. "I'm not sure if Sarah [Michelle Gellar] will come
back or not, but it's really up to UPN and 20th Century Fox if the
franchise continues. It would be very hard to continue the show
without her, but they might try."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer begins its seventh season in the
fall"”its second season on UPN, after five years on The WB.
Noxon took over as executive producer in 2001, when creator
Joss Whedon focused attention on the upcoming SF series
Firefly, which debuts on Fox in the fall.


Buffy Season 7 Spoiled

Joss Whedon, creator of UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
revealed plot spoilers for the upcoming seventh season of the
series during a panel discussion at the Academy of Television
Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles June 18. The fall season
premiere begins with the grand reopening of Sunnydale High
School, which was destroyed a couple of seasons back, Whedon
told the audience.

"The reopening of the high school is where we're starting, and it
represents a lot of what we're talking about in terms of getting
back to the very first mission statement of the show, which was
the joy of female power: Having it, using it, sharing it," Whedon
said.

Willow (Alyson Hannigan) will have to pay for skinning Warren at
the end of this season, the show's sixth, Whedon added. "There
are consequences for everything," he said. "Not to the point
where she'll spend all day crying, 'I'm so sad, why, why?' But she
will have to deal with this. We don't let people get away with
things, unless there's a reason. Giles, the year before, killed a
person, but nobody found out."

In a separate interview, Whedon reaffirmed for SCI FI Wire that
Amber Benson, who played Tara, will return next year, though
her character died at the end of this season. But when asked to
elaborate that Benson would return, but not as Tara, Whedon
replied, "I'm not saying a word about that."

Whedon did tell SCI FI Wire that Willow's addiction to magic and
Spike's (James Marsters) attempted rape would figure in the new
season, despite an intention to lighten the tone from this year's
dark themes. "We'll deal with issues, but we won't be hitting the
incredibly depressing reality of being grown up quite so hard," he
said. "Those things will still be issues, because Spike is still in the
mix, and he did try to rape Buffy. Willow has been addicted, and
both of those people have to be in the mix, so we'll deal with the
things, and things are still going to be scary, depressing and
confusing for our characters. It's going to be tough for them, but
at the same time, they're going to reclaim that essential notion
of the beauty of power and of their mission and not get so
caught up in the questions."

Whedon added that he wants Anthony Stewart Head to appear
as Giles in more episodes this season than last, and that he
hopes to bring back Jonathan (Danny Strong) and Andrew
(Thomas Lenk), the remaining duo of villains from this season.
"We're looking for them to [return], because they make us
laugh," he said.

One thing that won't be back is Buffy's (Sarah Michelle Gellar)
job at the Doublemeat Palace. "Doublemeat Palace was the only
thing we ever did to make advertisers pull out," Whedon said.
"They did not like us making fun of fast food. Sarah's very upset
about not getting to wear the hat anymore."
 
Oh no, no more Doublemeat Palace?🙄 What a pity.

I'm very glad about this part. I'm very anxious to see what happens with Willow and Spike.

So the high school is back😎, huh? That's interesting, I never thought of that happening. Buffy can be the librarian maybe😛. Thank goodness there may be an 8th Season. This is the greatest news, except I'll die if Sarah M.G. won't be a part of it. That's just retarded.😡

Your welcome.🙂 I'm just doing my part to keep the masses informed!!🙄 Anyway, I'm surprised to hear about season 8. I thought for sure that season 7 was going to be it and I also thought that Sarah was leaving after season 7. Oh well, more news will follow after this. 😉
 
Following April Bot's eloquently versed report, i thought you may want to pick and delve from another report; this time from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Features creator Joss Whedon and other cast members.

The Buffy panel at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was pretty interesting last night. Featured Joss, EP Marni Noxon, the series director Ray Stella and production designer Carey Meyer, with Alyson Hannigan, Nick Brendon, James Marsters and Michelle Trachtenberg. Moderated by TV Guides' Janet Weeks.

Musical Episode:

Kicked off with a long discussion about the musical episode. Joss said that the idea stemmed from an episode with James' character Spike killing the slayers through a few decades, and how all the pieces came together for that. Plus, James started singing on set, brought in his guitar. "Giles" sang in a few episodes. And some of the cast would come over for play readings at Joss' house for fun. Sometime they would get on the piano and sing, so he knew that several cast members had musical talent and the rest could rise to the challenge. He said "Anya" was the biggest surprise. Knew that she was funny, but had no idea that she was a great singer/dancer. The idea resulted in a range of reactions from the cast. Nick said it was like coming to work on day and hearing that you're now a juggler. Since he started acting at 24, this was the first time he ever did any kind of musical and ended up loving it. Alyson was just happy to discover the magic of music production tricks.

Season 6 Criticism

When asked about the criticism that this past season was too dark, Joss responded "Oops." He went on to say that part of growing up is dealing with everyday reality. Yes, earlier seasons were more romantic and metaphoric, but part of growing up is putting some of that aside. Buffy had to deal with the consequences of dying, going to heaven and coming back. She had to learn how to live. When the house came down around Buffy as she slept with Spike that first time, it was a metaphor for her life. Her life was crashing down around her. Marni and Joss said that all of the story lines just came together and yes, the story lines ended up dark. Combined, maybe it was darker than they expected. Michelle wants to wear black and heels next year. She repeated "heels" several times during pauses.

The actors had a big love fest, praising director Ray Stella and the writing staff. James was the most eloquent of the cast, really made insightful comments about lighting, Joss' team building management style and how he gets the most out of their performances, and how as actors its exciting because you never know when you're going to be turned into a toad.

Firefly

Firefly came up. Some of the staff from Angel and Buffy are moving over to the new show. Nick joked about a crossover with Firefly, entitled Fire-Fluffy, and how no one would ever watch that.

Tara's Death

Everyone mourned the passing of Tara. Nick said he and his wife cried after Tara said, they're something on your shirt. Ray said that getting the blood to splatter right on Willow after the gunshot took repeated takes. Alyson said they only had 2 of that blouse, so wardrobe had to keep washing and drying it. Alyson said is was wet on that last take. They tried straws and several methods. And then she had to break down each take and was a mess at the end of the day. Joss said, but didn't Dark Willow rock?! -- to much applause.

Villains of s6

Joss said that the 3 villains this season were his favorite, and that they're modeled the closest on the staff. In fact, their fanboy conversations mirror what's being said in between writing the scripts.

Season 8

Joss repeated his current statements that next season will be a return to the season one mission statement, which emphasizes female power and strength. Sunnydale High School will reopen, so the series has come full circle. Dawn will be growing up, becoming less whiney and "maybe move up to sulking," said Joss. And yes, he has promised Michelle she can wear black. Spike will have a soul, but promises surprises. He said, we already have an Angel so this will be very different. Overall, Joss and Marni said that while pain and horror will be always part of the series, next season will be much happier. Even Willow will eventually work through the guilt of killing a human and almost destroying the world. She won't be whining all season. And he reminded everyone that Giles killed Ben 2 seasons ago without any repercussions.

Apologies, you're right. Companies like Z Entertainment aren't really bothered about the names of Executive Producers like Marti, so i'll try to be more thorough before posting from such sources again.
 
Oh my god! This sounds so great! I'm so excited about season 6 now! Thank you so much April Bot and Oz.

I'm so happy the high school is reopening and that Doublemeat Palace is no more (thank god). It's funny that Sarah's dissapointed she doesn't get to wear the hat anymore, though. 😀 I'm also glad Dawn won't be whining anymore, but she'll move on up to sulking! YAY! And Fire-Fluffy. Need I say more? No, I needn't or else I'll go into hysterics.

Joss is such a genius! He's so hilarious. In fact, he should be worshipped. Yes, worshipped! 😀

Rebuilding Wesley On Angel

Joss Whedon, co-creator of The WB's vampire series Angel, told SCI FI Wire that Wesley will rejoin the group in the upcoming season four. But it will take time for Wesley (played by Alexis Denisof) to rebuild trust with Angel (David Boreanaz) and the rest of the gang, Whedon said in an interview. "It's a complex issue," he said. "It's not going to be simple. He's learned a lot about trust in the last year, and he's going to be dealing with that. It's not going to be like the old days."

Denisof told SCI FI Wire that he looks forward to continuing the exploration of Wesley's exclusion. "Emotions are running high right now, and I think it will be a good few episodes before it's resolved," he said. "I know they have some very exciting plans for next year, and I think it's an interesting turn for the character to be isolated and have to find his own way for a while."

As for Wesley's relationship with Wolfram and Hart lawyer Lila Morgan (Stephanie Romanov), Denisof said, "I know of a couple of ideas they've had, and I don't think they've completely decided yet [where it will go]. I think they were surprised that there was such chemistry between the characters, so I expect they may explore it. I think in some shape or form, now that it's started, it will [continue], but I don't see them running off and getting married."

Romanov herself told SCI FI Wire she was unsure where the Lila-Wesley relationship would go, but looks forward to exploring more of Lila's background, such as this season's revelation that she has a mother in a nursing home. "They're showing more sides to Lila now, so I get to play more interesting things," Romanov said. "You get a little bit better idea where she's coming from, and they've got some plans up their sleeve as to a storyline that I find intriguing, which I won't speak of now, but I look forward to all of that." Angel moves to a Sunday timeslot in the fall.

Well that is all very interesting. I'm wondering how the new high school will effect anything? Will they be the weird older people hanging outside the school or something? lol Really though I'm interested in how next season is going to work, and I'm hoping that with them going back to the shows roots it will turn out to be way less depressing then the last season.
I haven't heard nearly as much about the upcoming season of Angel though so thank you for posting something about that too.
I have to say though that if season 8 does happen and Sarah doesn't come back I dont' know how the show would actually work. Buffy is the main character you can't just get rid of them and move on that easily. How they would have Buffy the Vampire Slayer without Buffy is kinda strange. The show wouldn't make it though if Dawn because the main character no affence to Dawn fans but she's not a strong enough character.

I completely agree. I could never stand to watch Dawn as the main character. She doesn't have enough depth and she's not a strong enough character, as you said. I could just never bring myself to watch 'Dawn the (Whiny) Vampire Slayer'.
