If Joss Whedon ever decides to return to television and has a new show,which company should he pitch it to and/or work with?

I think AMC and HBO are the best at making television shows at the moment (even the ones that are not really for me), but that could change if Fox/Rupert Murdoch buy HBO. I'm not sure which is the best fit for him at this point.

And does anyone get the feeling that Joss has moved on from television to bigger things (film basically)? I guess maybe there is a chance he could return to the small screen, but I don't feel like it will be any time soon.

You beat me to it. The closest that Joss is likely to come to any TV network or series in to lend his name as Executive Producer, only offering the vaguest of plot guidelines for others to develop. Basically, I think that as long as Disney/Marvel keeps paying him the big bucks for "Avengers" sequels, we aren't going to see Joss having time to develop any new projects of his own.

I don't know,i mean I agree that its certainly likely that Joss will stick with the movies,but I still think he loves the format of doing TV. I think he still has a place in his heart for a good tv series story.

The way Joss likes to tell his stories, with more than half an eye on the long term arcs, a series just feels more right for him, imo. Of course that could be a series of films but where, other than the work he's already doing, are you likely to be guaranteed a certain number of films in which to develop those long-term stories? Of course, Whedonverse fans know better than most that in TV you're not necessarily guaranteed a certain number of seasons - or even episodes - either, but with the cache Joss has right now and the following for his previous TV series', I think if he wanted to return to TV with something new (or something old *cough* Firefly *cough*), he'd be given plenty of time to develop it without having to worry about cancelation and that would really help him do something wonderful.

Joss and Netflix would be a perfect mix, it would give him the artistic freedom that he requires and would allow us to be able to binge watch the whole series.

Netflix - they do quality work (Orphan Black), seem to allow more autonomy for creators and directors, and some network will pick up the show (like Orphan Black).

Well not Fox. I went with Netflix also. It might depend on what kind of show though too. I'm not sure what Joss would do as a TV show. Still waiting for a Faith the Vampire Slayer or Ripper spin-off and Netflix would be great for that.

I'd say yes to Netflix as well, screw FOX, they've had their chance and blow it again and again, not just with Joss, but with Sci-Fi in general.

If it were to be some sort of Mini-series then maybe Faith The Vampire Slayer (Eliza is still a knockout, so she could easily pull it off.) or Ripper (ASH is still very willing)

Although I would've liked to see Ripper on the BBC, then can have really good production values when they want to. (see 'Sherlock', which ends up looking like a min-film most of the time- it's amazing.)

Or hey, there's still the Buffy cartoon idea. That could be shown pretty much anywhere. 🙂

If it were to be a TV series HBO or Showtime for sure as they would give him far more creative freedom than a network ever would. He could even do a made for TV movie on HBO or Showtime... or a miniseries... those win Golden Globes and Academy Awards... if he were still after that type of recognition. But something personally his and character driven, not more superhero big budget movies!

I love the quality and budgets that HBO seems to dish out. In addition to that, Showtime and Cinemax now want to compete with HBO and might be willing to let Joss do as much as he wants for the most part.

I voted HBO, as he would do wonders with the bigger budget and more lax censorship that they would offer him, but a Netflix original would also be great.

I really hope Whedon returns to television some day. He works best with long term storytelling. His films and shorter series are usually just fluff, albeit highly entertaining fluff. He really needs multiple seasons/arcs to bring out his best material.

I have to agree with what many others have said and go with Netflix. Netflix has been doing amazing things with their TV shows and I think Joss could really come up with something unique working with Netflix. HBO, AMC, and Showtime would also be good since these companies have been making some great stuff lately and raising the bar for television as a result.
