Surprised this hasn't come up yet but I'm wondering what are peoples thoughts on the race for the White House. What do you think of the possible canidates, who are you backing and who do you think will win.
 
I'm liking him too but his lack of experience is a little worrying
 
I'm a hard line conservative, so Huckabee gets my vote (unfortunately, I'm afraid Clinton will get it, especially if she can somehow talk Obama into being her running mate). Now, if Chuck Norris was running instead of Fred Thompson...

I was a little surprised how badly Hillary did in Iowa. But this makes sense I guess:

More than 65,000 Iowa voters under the age of 30 took part in Thursday's Democratic and Republican caucuses, three times the amount that turned out for the 2004 caucus, according to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement. The majority of those under-30 voters were participating in the caucus for the first time, and the number who voted Democrat "” more than 52,000 "” made up 22 percent of the party's total vote, about twice as many as typically take part in caucuses.

It was a turnout that surprised most, and one that carried significant weight. Young caucus-goers supported both winners "” Democratic Senator Barack Obama and Republican Governor Mike Huckabee "” by the largest margins of any age group: 57 percent for Obama, and 40 percent for Huckabee, according to CNN entrance polls.

I'm not sure what people are voting for with Obama, other than "change". Some of his comments on Pakistan, etc have been downright wacky.

I'm still kinda liking Rudy. I dunno. I think it's good to have someone with some kind of executive experience, whoever it is. Guess I'll actually start paying attention now that they've begun in earnest.

I was talking about Obama and his popularity with my boss. We both agreed that he is greatly benefitting from the celebrity culture in America at the minute because so many celebs are backing him he is getting exposure to the younger vote that the other canidates just aren't. I mean something like 200,000 turned up for the Democrats in Iowa? Huge numbers.
 
I support Hilary. Obama does not have enough experience. He did only one term in the Senate. When Hilary became a senator, everyone told her she should run for president, but she said not right now, she wanted to do a couple terms in the Senate, get some experience first.
 
I reckon Joss Whedon should be the next President, from what I've heard he has the possible support of a couple of vampires and more than one vampire slayer.

I can't say I care who makes it to the White House, I don't support any of the candidates at all. Partly because I'm neither a Conservative or Liberal, I'm both and neither (depending on the issue) and I don't believe politicians really support the views of their own party. But then again I've gotten very cynical when it comes to politics over the last couple of years.

Take a look at Ron Paul. Seriously. He's the only honest one out there, and he's Republican but not NeoCon.
I really don't know who I'm backing yet. I don't feel like any of them are strong enough to win my vote this early in the game. I mean, I have my misgivings when it comes to every candidate.

That reminds me... I've moved in the last year, so I need to update my voter registration form. I'm registered as an independent, which is great, because according to the voter registration form, it means I can vote in both primaries.

I'm not American, but if I was that's who I'd back. It would be just fascinating to see what would happen if he could actually implement those small government ideas of his.

He doesn't have a chance of course, but it's kind of amazing how much grass roots internet support he's been able to gather.
 
If Al Gore was voted in, and I'd start a movement to build a big wall along the northern border, and not let any Americans in until they regained their sanity.

So you mean it's OK if Gore sucks, because somebody, somewhere sucks worse?

I disagree anyway. If you could see the it visually, Bush would be a little kid with a lollypop next to Gore, who would be this vast, intergalactic, black hole of cosmic suckage.
