Next Week is Be Nice on the Internet Week

Next week has been designated "Be Nice on the Internet" Week. Technically it's January 9-13, but we think it's such a great idea that we're going to be celebrating it on the boards all week until the 15th with special discussions and activities.

So for one whole week we'll be outlawing things like the word "hate" and forcing everyone to be nice to each other...or else 😉

More info will come next week, but get ready to be positive and remove the negative vibe from your posts...and to find something good to say about that ship you really dislike!

THIS SOUNDS LIKE SUCH A FANTASTIC IDEA!!!! I know we're not supposed to use caps... but I had to have caps to convey exactly how excited I am to challenge myself to not say negative things anywhere on the internet next week. I think everyone's going to be so much happier! YAY!

Ok... I'm going to stop now before I literally start jumping around my room for joy.

EDIT: my mom (who is reading over my shoulder) said this could sound sarcastic. So I'm editing to assure you all, it is not. I am this excited.

I don't see why this should be hard to mostly anybody on this board (mostly). IMO we're all pretty cool folks (mostly)! You don't have to be all "let's be happy, shiny people!". Just don't be negative. It's not that hard. If you're negative all the time, you shouldn't be on the internet.

I totally agree... "Be Nice On The Internet" Week is pretty much just using proper forum etiquette and going out of our way not to say negative things to each other. Here on BB, a good example would be using the week to make an effort not to trash a ship you don't like, or another fandom you don't get the love for. 🙂 It's not all about singing songs around the campfire, smiling and holding hands... It's just a week to focus on the things we should already be practicing online, by treating others how we want to be treated.

For some, it may end up being a good lesson in humility. 🙂

We don't need members to be overly positive and all sunshine and rainbows for a week. It's more a week about tolerance and being accepting of one another. You know, embracing our differences without being sarcastic and/or mean. Sometimes things get heated when peoples opinions differ and it's important for us all to remember to be respectful of one another.

I just realized that I'm going to be away next week. Nooooooooo!

Okay, so I'm going to be super nice for the rest of this week. But I'm so sad that I'm going to miss it. I might be here for some of it. But I just think this is the best ever and will be the most amazing experience. And, if I'm honest, it couldn't have come at a better time.

The idea is nice and I'm curious to see how things turn out. The members on these boards are generally high above the internet average when it comes to behave. Having and showing respect for each other isn't about shutting up or sugarcoat everything which often seem to come up as examples when told to behave. Everyone can need a reminder now and then. Looking forward to see what the staff has come up with.

Since the week hasn't started yet...
As for the internet as a whole the reminder isn't bad but I can't help but I don't think it'll touch the ones that need it the most. Really hope I'm wrong though. So that's me being negative. Time to go find that positive feeling and share the vibe. I want to have "Approved" stamped on my forehead. 😀

I think this is a great idea but I also think that it's kind of sad that there is even a need for it. Being nice on the internet should be a given. Especially on a site as nice as this one. but I dou think that it's a good thing that people are taking in interest in trying to make a site nicer. so I'm all for this and I am definitely excited.
