I'm not sure if this was talked about already, but I just saw it when I was watching my DVD's.

When Moloch pulls up the file of Buffy on the principal's computer it says:

Name: Buffy Summers
Birth: 10/24/80
Year: Sophomore
G.P.A: 2.8
Athletics: None

I'm pretty sure that is correct. Then, Moloch transfers that info to Fritz and the info comes up:

Name: Buffy Summers
Birth: 5/-/79
Year: Senior
G.P.A: 2.8
Athletics: None

I thought that was crazy.

Wow, that is a little wierd! But the first date seems off too, concidering that after Buffy died (2nd time) her gravestone read:

BUFFY ANNE SUMMERS

1981-2001

BELOVED SISTER
DEVOTED FRIEND

SHE SAVED THE WORLD A LOT

I've always been a bit confused about her age, maybe the writers were too 😉

I've seen that too, it looks really weird, since as I remember it anyway the two screens are showing almost directly after eachother.

The writers screw up a lot with the characters ages, it seems. I've seen a few different birthdays for all of them! And I've seen a few very different ages for some of the vampire characters, too.

Would it kill you to come back on every once in a while?!?!?!
yeah, i noticed that too.
the writers do make a lot of mistakes, with ages and stuff, but i think they make the most mistakes with angel. (see 'halloween' for more details!)

This is one of the few true goofs that had appeared in the series. It's generally accepted that Buffy's birthday is January 19, 1981, since two of the birthday episodes were broadcast on that day and in "Doomed" she says she is a "Capricorn on the cusp of Aquarius" which also fits with the 01/19 birth date as that is the last day of the sun in Caprocorn.

Hey did you notice in the eppy season 1 "nightmares" it said

1981-1997 so most likly her birthdate is 1981 as its the most common.

I saw the same thing... and thought what's going on here, I didn't run it back to check, but I could have sworn the DOB in the first screen was 10/24. I am glad somebody actually checked.

It's a shame when great writers don't know their charactors enough to get their birthdays right lol

I'm trying to write a novel myself (un-Buffy related) and the first thing i learnt was to write a back story for each of my charactors, i know their birthdays, aniversaries and whole history. Maybe the Buffy creator didn't have time to do this i dunno....

Wow ... great pick up... yeah it is a shame that the writers dont know their characters enough to get their birthdays right!! lol i mean it is annoying when they mention more than one birthdates for the characters as it confuses the viewers.

I heard the second birthdate was given with a 1979 birthdate because if the show really picked up where the movie left off, Buffy should have been a senior and thus been born in 79....

It's an in joke. The alternate profile was meant to be in there, on purpose.

Okay, so yea. They messed up on the real profile's birthday. Okay. This was also the first season of the show, and they hadn't established any kind of detail like that yet. So...I cut them some slack. They're allowed some mistakes.

Actually, i must say this is a HUGE flaw from Joss.
Every single TV show has to have a full working Bio of every character of focus, so that each writer and director have some frame of reference, doesn't matter what season of the show it is, and the worst thing is that its Buffy, not just some single episode character......its so wrong that Joss wouldn't have a character Bio, i mean thats one of the things an exec wants to see when you try to sell you idea to them.......

That's called a concordance. Authors use them too.
I think it's pretty harmless. It could've just been a mistake, or something thrown in to see just how devoted the fans were. You know, throw in a mistake, and so how the fans react to it, which could gauge the responsiveness of the audience.

Or maybe I'm just babbling. 🙂

ages are always a big problem with the writers...can never seem to have consistancy...lol

I agree with what other people have said. It was the first season people(well I robot, you Jane was) Cut them some slack. they were probably rushing around and they didnt have time to check. Also different writers were writing the scripts simultaneously so didnt know that another script had a different birthday mentioned.

I admit the I robot, you jane mess up is a bit surprising especially as they are pretty much right next to each other. But think, all these little mistakes give us all something to chat about on these boards so it aint all bad, lol.
