Nice big mistake in 'I Robot, You Jane'

hope im write bout this lol but wasnt moloch that computer demon thingy that fell in love with willow. well maybe that was moloch using his powers to try nd get rid of buffy a year early by making her profile into a senior lol only i theory lol

Its a theory that makes about as much sense as using a Collander as a Cup!

You are trying to suggest that Moloch purposefully changed the DOB of Buffy on record so that she would leave school a year early, doesn't matter that Buffy and her Mother would know that there is an issue with the Date Change.......

LOL, BotD! Yep, that theory sucked but the basic idea holds, I guess.

If you did want to fanwank the problem away you can simply suggest that Moloch had been in the computer for a while and had used the school records as a test ground for the amount of trouble he could do on the internet. He certainly had been altering other school records so why not that?

Let's be honest. If they were going to have an onscreen error concerning details on a computer, there was no better episode than this one to get away with it. 🙂
 
How about this.
I Robot was episode 8 of the first season.
We can assume that each episode is a week separating the next/last so basically B is a SuunyD student for 8 weeks by now(7 if you account WTTHM and TH as one) so her information might just be a clerical error in different files.

At school all our information was kept separately and inputted by hand.

Infact it took me 5 Years to finally get registered under the correct spelling of my name even though the central computer archive had the correct spelling, the sub-archives somehow had Alistair and thats how I 'took register' every day even though I complained everyday.
 
Yeah, that works too. Truthfully, as continuity mistakes on Buffy and Angel go, this one was fairly minor and easily explained away.
 
Yeah that is pretty weird. I don't know if anybody has said anything about this but when Buffy died in "The Gift" her grave says 1981 not 1980.

You can't blame the writers though. They can't remember every little detail - Although something like Buffy's age shouldn't really be forgotten.

Well who should we blame?
The Roadsters?
The writers within the confines of that show are given detailed backgrounds of each character to make sure mistakes like this don't happen. Its common practice for this sort of thing.
If this didn't happen then Joss Whedon is to blame, if it DID happen then the writers are at fault.
 
not that this is a mistake, i just thought this was the best place for it. at the end of this episode anyone notice how buffy said "let's face it, none of us are ever going to have a happy normal relationship." well that's pretty much true. it's amazing how often joss foreshadows events or ideals, i love that about rewatching these episodes.

I get what you are saying, but I don't know if that was 'foreshadowing' or the fact that life in general people rarely have 'happy normal relationships' and from a teens point of view it's even less likely, especially with what they have experienced so far.

it might not have been deliberate foreshadowing but i've noticed that this type of thing happens alot, i like it.
 
Most teenagers think they're doomed to unhappy realtionships, don't they? Not everything in Buffy is foreshadowing. Pershaps it's simply Joss's philosophy, which is why nearly every relationship in his shows ends TERRIBLY.

Joss has always been one to say that a happy relationship isn't good TV....personally, I think he is wrong and lazy.

ok coincidence works too. whatever you want to call it i enjoy it. and speaking of that i just saw another one. in eppy "nightmares" the master said that buffy was afraid of being buried alive. and what happened to buffy in season 6? bam!, another coincidence/foreshadowing. i love it.

I don't actually know if that again was foreshadowing BUT I do know that SMG really didn't like it. I think it was a fear of hers.

Hmm did I sense sarcasm in your rep comment? Anyway, it wouldn't have hurt to have ONE healthy relationship on the show.
I seem to remember that it was a fear of being buried alive, BotD.

Hey, maybe it was SMG's fear that was actually the foreshadowing for what would happen to Buffy in Bargaining!
