I just saw The King's Speech (which was fabulous BTW!) & it reminded me that Nick used to be a spokesperson for the Stuttering Foundation of America & at the time he was on Buffy he spoke openly about it. Now, the children I work with probably won't know who the heck he is lol (unless like my own children they have a freaky parent who exposes them to BTVS & ATS episodes), but he's in a SFA brochure: http://www.stutteringhelp.org/portals/english/18_famous_people_2008.pdf. And on their website: http://www.stutteringhelp.org/Default.aspx?tabid=128.
He was honorary chairperson of the Stuttering Foundation of America's Stuttering Awareness Week for three consecutive years, from 2000 to 2003. http://www.stutteringhelp.org/default.aspx?tabid=205
This was in USA Today in 2001: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/spotlight/2001-05-15-brendon-stuttering-life.htm. There was a People Magazine article as well: http://nickbrendon.com/2001/10/15/tough-talk/.
