Found this and thought some of you would like to know about it, as I know there are some Harry Potter fans here.

I hope he does decide to stay after the fourth movie as there is no one that can replace him as Hagrid!

Robbie Coltrane, who reprises the role of Hagrid in the upcoming third Harry Potter movie, told SCI FI Wire that he's committed to a fourth movie, but unsure about any more. "I'll certainly do four," Coltrane said in an interview during a break in filming last fall on the set in England. "I'm contracted through four. ... Beyond that, I don't know. Never say never again, as they say."

In the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Coltrane's character finds himself teaching a class at Hogwarts. "Yes, he's a professor, which is quite funny," Coltrane said. "We had a lot of fun with that, because the kids are kind of enjoying the fact that Hagrid doesn't quite know what he's doing because he hasn't done it before. So there's a lot of things like, 'How am I doing?' And 'You'd better do better.' He's not really quite sure what to do."

Coltrane added that he has had conversations with Potter author J.K. Rowling about Hagrid. "I know all sorts of things about his past that haven't been discussed so far, which will be important," Coltrane said. "I mean, that's all Jo told me. I said, 'Well you can tell me everything about his past, which is important, even if it's not expressed to everyone but me. Even if it's irrelevant to everyone but me, because I think it is relevant if you're going to be a character.' So that's all I know. I know stuff about his past that isn't revealed. But I don't know anything of the plot. I don't want to, either. You know what I mean? I want the fun of finding out as much as anyone." Azkaban, which is now in post-production, is slated for release June 4.

I really like Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid. He plays him really well and I hope he stays on for all the Harry Potter films. It wouldn't be the same, or as good, if they changed actors after the forth film.

I mean even Dumbledore isn't the same, but the replacing of that actor wasn't a choice. When I heard they were casting a movie I was curious to see who could be Hagrid but Robbie really is Hagrid to a T!

I haven't read the books, so I wasn't expecting anything and I had nothing to compare the characters with, but Robbie is really great at playing Hagrid. The character is just so loveable and Robbie plays that well.

When you have a chance you should read the books, they are really good but you'll see how true he has played it.

Definitely! (notice correct spelling😛 )

When you read the books you can't help but picture Robbie as Hagrid as he has done such a great job of bringing the character to life. I certainly couldn't imagine anyone else stepping into his shoes should he not decide to do any more after the fourth movie. I'm waiting to see PoA before I make any judgements on Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. 😉

I really liked how he does Hagrid, I also liked him as Zukovski on James Bond. I really hope he doesn't leave the series. But seeing as he's so interested in Hagrid's backstory, I think he still wants the job, just perhaps his way of getting a rise.
