Today was my last day of school. And now tell me, is it dorky to actually feel sad about this? I don't know what's up with me, all of a sudden I start to treasure everything and everyone, remember everything that has happened during my 13 years of school.
And I know I'll still be seeing everyone, we still have our final exams, the Prom and Graduation ahead of us, but still it feels like goodbye. Like I know one girl will be going to America right away after graduation, she got some sort of scholarship because she plays tennis.
And that's not the only thing, I kinda feel a bit scared. I know I'm looking forward to university and everything, but now it's suddenly so real, and that scares me.
Is it normal to feel like this right after school has ended?

It would probably be stranger if you didn't feel it. There's a whole new world out there now, it's a frightening prospect.

It's totally normal. Everyone gets a wiggins once High School's over and all that lies before you is college or whatever it is you're gonna do next. You lose the safety net of school and it's a little frightening.

I mean even Buffy got all confused and lost on her first day of University. She was clearly yearning for the days of High School. And Xander never stopped yearning for them! Haha. People say 'High School are best days of your life' and you only realize it's true ONCE you've left!

So it's totally expected to be sad about leaving. It's the end of an era. Like JCC said, it would be strange if you didn't feel a little sad because that would mean you didn't care.

wow! you're done of school!? lucky you...hehe....4 and a half more for me. 🙁
but I'd think it would be perfectly normal to feel that way.

I felt that way a little bit. Mostly, though I was excited. I really enjoyed High School, but I was also really looking forward to college.

Leaving college... now that got to me. On the one hand, I was proud. I was the first person in my family to go to college, and boy did I go. I even graduated Phi Beta Kappa. I was really insanely proud. On the other hand, I was really insanely sad. I started to cry as we pulled out of the campus. I was saying goodbye to the entire life that I had built for myself at that school. Of course, then I realized that I accidentally left my purse on Front Quad in all the excitement, so I had to turn around and go back for it. It was really sort of a climactic mood breaker to have such a "Doh!" moment right then. lol.

So, yeah. I think it's normal to feel a little sad about moving on and a little apprehensive about the future.

I was the happiest person when school was done. Ahh the big world, much, much better. 🙂 Or you know, worse. Take your pick. 😉

First of all congratulations hun! second of all yes I think its probally normal to get all nostalgic when you colse a chapter in your life. Just remember though that you are beginning a new one. Scary yes, but much more than that is exciting! Just keep that in mind and look foward to it. Its okay to look back, just dont GO backwards lol. I hope that makes sense hun. Take care!

I can definitely feel for you. I'm currently in my last year of schooling, and although I'll be back from next September to January, I'll be taking co-op educatoin (workplace experience that you get credits for, rather than pay) and with my friends all leaving, this will for all purposes be my final year.

It really is a scary prospect. From the tender age of four, five (some earlier with daycare programs) you go away for a few hours a day to learn and interact with others in a controlled environment. You're told what to do, when to do it, and you get used to it. With so many hours spent in one place it's almost like a second home, a group of people you see ALL the time. It's a comfort zone that can be really really scary to leave.

God knows, I'm scared out of my mind! 😉

But on the other hand, I'm off to work for a couple years (and travel overseas, I hope), then I'm heading to college afterwards. So it's somewhat comforting to be working (something I know!), but all the same. I really think I'm going to miss the school.

Then again, going to school everyday with people that much younger is really starting to get hard. I mean I have no problem working with other people, but I find that many younger kids running around the school can really get on my nerves sometimes. Like I've outgrown the school, you know? It's not my place anymore, it's the next wave of high schooler's.

Just my thoughts, anyway. 🙂

I think it's perfectly normal to feel this way. You start a new chapter in life.
It's exciting and scary at the same time. I totally understand you. I'm starting my last year at school next September. Graduating is closer and closer. And then I'm going to study somewhere. On the one hand I'm looking forward to that but it also scares me.
I also understand how you feel about leaving school itself. I felt kinda like it when I graduated from Middle School. I think the three years I spent there were the best years I spent in school. I liked my class very much and most of the teacher were ok.I have so many memories from that time. And I remember the last day. There was academy, goodbye, they gave us reports, and it was the end, so fast...I felt strange and somehow empty too. I go to the school in the same town now and some people from my former class are there with me but it isn't the same...

You're supposed to feel this way about leaving school. I only left secondary school two years ago and I remember having this gnawing feeling in my gut that things would never be the same again. I was right but that isn't such a bad thing. I remember giving the closing speech at our graduation and it felt like with my words I was physically closing a chapter in the lives of my classmates as well as my own chapter.

You're taking one something completely new and foreign to you, you would be crazy not to be a little bit scared and pine for the security that school brings. Believe me college will be an adventure and after a few months you will be wondering what you were so concerned about. Just enjoy the time you and all your friends have left together.
