no new buffy movie

Contrary to certainty, I'm still keeping an open mind as recent reports (even from the likes of Sky) have been doubted with the use of unreliable sources.
 
Trust me if the money is right and the fans want it...And as long as the script good. No movie just for the sake of doing a movie.
 
Thats to bad that, that was said but like Oz I'm going to keep an open mind until the show is actually over.
 
There's gonna be a movie. There just has to be. Maybe they will just have a different slayer instead of Buffy?

I hope there will be a movie, but as to whether SMG will do it or not will be another story. Perhaps, Dawn will be the new slayer on the big screen.

And I agree, SMG says she won't do a Buffy movie, yet she's in Scooby Doo? Her past ventures to the big screen have left much to be desired (except maybe for Cruel Intentions). Her other movie, Simply Irresistable was cute (sort of?) but not much else. She may never successfully make the leap from television actress to film actress. It's all up to her.

While doing a press junket for her new film SCOOBY DOO, Gellar had this to say when asked about a potential BUFFY film, and her interest in it.

"You know, I don't (feel committed to a BUFFY movie)." Gellar said. "I'm not in to it, and I've got to be honest and say that I believe that, first of all, it was a movie. It didn't work as a film and we battled for so long, just getting out from underneath was essentially a failed feature film and I feel that with the beauty of the story, that the attachment you have and the ride that you take with these characters. And I feel like we make a movie every week. So to take one episode to expand, it's kind of a waste."

Let's not forget Gellar, while she's one of our most favorite people in entertainment today, also said she would never go with the show if it moved from the original WB to UPN. And she ended up going.

It kinda makes sense if you think about it, what if the movie turns out really bad? We wouldn't want that. Plus, they can't just make it for Buffy fans, they would want to make it to where you could watch it without seeing a single Buffy episode in your life. So I think its best to leave well enough alone.
 
All very valid points merlin84_98 and i agree to an extent; a movie in essence would have to take in some respects to the people who haven't seen it, but then you could argue that the show is so worldwide now that it could essentially only be focused on the demographic that have seen the show i.e. millions. With such a successful show as well, you'd only really need to transpose one of those, "recently on Buffy the Vampire Slayer" monologues at the start of each of the episodes, or maybe use a trailer to unfold what's going on and for the most part I'd think the audience would be content with the continuing storyline. There's even the possibility you could turn to advertisement in getting the message across?

Back to the topic though, many shows/oav's/toons/comics have been converted to films and vice-versa and I for one believe Buffy: the Movie is still a well-prospected idea. Just a shame SMG doesn't see it that way I suppose, however she can of course be replaced. *gulp* I see Sarah's point though, there is the thought of it still sucking and yeah, obviously not a good thing. But then i have my hopes and i'm sure if Joss were at the helm of it all (remember he's slated the film as well, so he could work from it's mistakes), I truly think we'd still be in with a fighting chance of something worthwhile to carry on the cult. Nice analysis though, let's just hope 'eh? 🙂

I really hope there's a movie. It would be a way for the cast to let go with a bang. I'm sure the s7 finale will be brilliant, though the media would be more involved if it was a movie. We want them to rave about how good the movie'll be!

The fact that SMG refused to go to UPN and then went anyway gives me hope. And even if she didn't do a movie.... ummmm Eliza/Faith! She is still the "real" slayer... I wouldn't mind seeing her in the role.
 
i think she said on the sky news showbiz that she didn't want to do one because it would be just like doing two episodes of Buffy and there wasn't much of a point - something like that - can't remember it was yesterday!

Well there might not be a point if you think of it being just two episodes of the show (little narrow-minded toward her contract, maybe? 😉), but on the grand scale of things.... hmm, well you know it'd be a great way to monument what the show has achieved, if and when it actually finishes of course. I'm sure it's still just too early for Joss to decide (with or without SMG) whether a movie would at all be worthwhile.

But he only wrote the script for the original movie. I'm talking about if he directed it and had full input, like he does with the tv show.
