No spoilers please: My reviews of each Buffy episode on my first watch

I've just been reading these reviews and I had a question brewing but the reviews seem to have come to a sudden stop.

I'll ask it anyway in case someone knows the answer:

JustToClarify was watching and reviewing episodes of Buffy and seemed to have very little prior knowledge of the series - so how come? How did she/he come to be on a Buffy board if not a Buffy fan? What led him/her to decide to do this? Was she/he already a member of the board? A massive Firefly fan perhaps?

Hello again guys. I'm very sorry for basically disappearing for a number of months, but I'm writing a post now which will hopefully explain everything about what's happening with Buffy and my reviews. In short, expect me to continue reviewing the series very soon if anybody's still interested - if not, I'll probably keep reviewing anyway but whatever 🙂

JustToClarify Are you posting up any more reviews?

The post I'm currently writing will be up shortly and will explain everything - but in short, yes.

Another great review, JTC! Please please please keep them coming! I love the way you write....but I have to say I have a much different view of this ep. It's actually one of my favorites.

I was bothered by Giles' disbelief of Buffy - dismissing her concern and saying Xander was just being a "teenage boy". However, I do like the turn around when he does allow for something more sinister to be happening "what are you gonna do?" "get my book...look stuff up." - which is the phrase buffy had just used when asking him for help.

Buffy really shows how strong she is here - when she says "you got anything to say to me?" after xander's horrible insult to willow and he just walks away laughing. he's afraid of her. Again this is shown when rather than throw the dodgeball at her the pack turns on their own teammate.

"How do you feel?"
"Like I've been hit with a desk."

I think Xander plays the evil role perfectly "look who just got bad" (not sure if that's the exact line)

the twist at the end actually got me - I love how giles puts it together just before getting knocked out

and the redeeming fact at the end that xander saves willow

also, I thought it was interesting that even though the zoo keeper was possessed with the hyena's soul the actual hyena's didn't recognize that - didn't take him as one of them - but instead ate him like they would any other human.

anyway - can't wait for your next one! 🙂

Thanks for your support. I hope you'll keep reading when I start up again. 🙂

The reviews will be starting up again soon.

In answer to your question: Basically, I've always been at least semi-interested in the Buffy series. I've seen Sarah Michelle Gellar in a lot of stuff since I was a child - I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2 mainly - and when Ringer started up on TV a few years ago, I decided to look up Buffy.

I saw that the series box-set was fairly cheap on Amazon, and I'm a sucker for diving into new shows just for the experience, so I bought it on impulse. I knew that the show had an insane fan following, so I looked that up and stumbled upon this board.

The blog I made and the reviews were (are) a quirky idea I had just to see if people would be interested in seeing how the series is viewed from new eyes.

I hope that answers your question 🙂.

---------- Post added at 04:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:24 PM ----------

Here's a copy of my latest blog post I discussed earlier.

If you could please pay attention to the third and fourth questions and possibly offer any advice on what you think is best then that would be a great help. Thank you.

The last review of Buffy that I posted was 276 days ago. That's quite a while, and in this post I will be basically informing you of why I stopped reviewing, where I am in the series and how the reviews will be posted from now on. Sorry for the long wait - I hope you're still there.

So here we go. If you have any other questions than those answered below, please feel free to ask.

 • Why did you stop reviewing the series?
There isn't really a basic answer to this question. A lot of things sort of came together to create a 'perfect storm' scenario that resulted in me being unable to post reviews.

I'm currently in my last year of secondary school (high school if you're of U.S. origin) and my workload is pretty sporadic at the moment. It's been difficult for me to find the time to watch anything, let alone review it each day, and in the downtime I'm not in the mood to write posts.

In addition to that, my old and very slow laptop that I wrote the original posts on died without much warning. I recently got a new computer, so at least I now have the medium to write again.

A few other factors that I won't go into detail about (who cares, really?) affected the blog but basically - work and a dead laptop stopped the reviews dead.

 • Why have you come back now?
As I mentioned, I recently bought a new computer which allows me to write these posts again. In addition, I've organised my time better and freed up some days to allow me to watch and review the episodes again.

 • Have you watched anymore of the series without reviewing them?
This is where things get interesting. After I stopped writing the reviews, I did indeed continue watching the series for a short while.

Basically, I watched up until the end of the first season in the weeks following my absence from the blog and watched the first episode of the second season a few months later. That means that I am currently on episode two of the second season. I have not watched the series in a long time, but will be returning to it very soon.

 • What about the reviews for the episodes you watched after leaving?
This is where I need your opinions.

Personally, I can't remember off-hand exactly what each episode entailed and honestly, I'm not sure whether I want to revisit them in order to review each individually.

I've been thinking about this for a while now. Perhaps I could do a general review of the second half of season one? If instead people would like me to rewatch and review the episodes individually (as I had for episodes one through six), I would honestly have no problem with that and would do it.

Please leave a reply and tell me what you believe is best.

 • When will you be reviewing new episodes and how often will reviews be posted?
When I started this blog I made an effort to watch an episode every night and post a review the following day. This was unrealistic and resulted in a very hectic schedule for me, so I will not be doing that this time.

What I do hope to do, because I do genuinely enjoy watching and reviewing the episodes, is output the reviews on a more dynamic schedule. There will be no set times or days for reviews to be published. Instead, I will likely watch at least two episodes a week (if not more) and review them as soon as possible (likely the next day, but not always).

 • Is there anything else?
Probably, but I can't think of anything off-hand.

I'd like to thank everyone though for their support when I originally started the reviews. It was great to see people comment on each review and say how much they enjoyed it and that's the main reason I wanted to start up again as soon as possible. I hope you all continue to enjoy the posts, even though it's been such a long time. Sorry about that.

Just discovered this thread, I'm really enjoying your reviews. I hope you continue. 🙂 I love reading Buffy reviews from newbie viewers. 😀

Such good reviews even if I did not agree with a lot of the verdicts😀

You are welcome back anytime.😎

Ooh, fun! It's always interesting to hear what people think who have never seen it before.

Who is your favorite character thus far?
