I just watched UPN's official promos for season 7. I've watched a lot of their promos, as well as those produced by the WB. I get so irritated at how the comedic aspect is overemphasized. We all know how funny & witty these shows are. But a lot is lost in these trailers, and I can see how a person might watch these and say "Not interested!" even before watching the show. Obviously promos/trailers shouldn't give away anything, but I just watched WB's season 4 ATS promos, and they were a lot more compelling. Yes, the show is darker in general, but I get so annoyed that folks can watch the Buffy trailers & think "Oh, it's just a fluffy teenage story with some supernatural elements" when we all know that's far from the truth.

Geez, these are cheesy. But amusing to look back on :)
Wow. They are really awful. It's like a totally different show.

Yeah, and it's not just s7. I've watched a lot of the promos on YouTube by both UPN & the WB, and most of them are like that. Now, to be honest, the closer you get to the s7 finale, the more serious they are. BUt the ATS promos are much, much better.

I have always looked at it as a light-hearted comedy FIRST.. I mean, its not really Supernatural or the Twilight Zone. It's a tweeny comedy about vampires.

I didn't have the energy to watch the Angel promos, but I thought the Buffy ones were good - If I had seen those on TV I would have wanted to watch it. 😀

Yeah, but I had seen and enjoyed the movie.. so thats what the show was to me. It was never a dark or serious show to me. It became more serious, but it was always more on the comedy side.
OMG, wow...Those UPN promos are pretty horrible. I'd forgotten HOW BAD they were. I don't even know that I'd have watched it based on those. I remember those when they aired, every one who saw them questioned me on why I watched it. Good thing I knew what it was all about before it went to UPN.

OMG- your banner! is awesome!
There's some (fake) Frangel at around the 8 minute mark of the Angel trailers. Talk about a ratings stunt...

But yeah, the Buffy promo's lack serious depth.

I noticed that too...lame stunt.
Ugh, what also gets me upset is how they seem to dumb down the episodes, and try to add some holiday flair in some of the promos. I don't mind if some of them are light-hearted and funny, but it doesn't work all the time.

Alright, maybe it's just the UPN promos, because the WB's s5 promos play up the horror element (this is not the entire season):

The Hush promo is super-creepy, and I feel all nostalgic and the "special Buffy/Angel crossover event". 🙁

whoops, supposed to say "about the special..."

Aww I loved the crossovers!
I assume the UPN emphasized the comedy element because the fans were up in arms due to S6's unrelenting bleakness. Of course, you got to question what were they thinking since S7 was about as funny as watching paint dry but I can see why they tried to present it that way.

Yeah wow those UPN ones are soooo terrible. No wonder I never watched it growing up lol. That's what I thought of the show that it was stupid, now I can remember why I thought that.

Have to agree with everybody: If I hadn't seen the show these trailers would make me think it was moronic, low-brow crass humour of the worst kind. There isn't a one where it seems to even remotely take itself seriously. If I'd seen these I'd have stayed well clear of the show. Somebody in the promo department needs to be fired.

That said, I couldn't help but splutter with laughter at "Get off the boy Buffy, we're going home."

Love that line!
"This Fall Buffy Bites Back saving the world one Tuesday at a time!" oh man these are cheesy! I actually laughed out loud a couple times. No big surprise the UPN was shut down not to long after 😀

The Buffy promos are embarrassing and quite frankly they annoy me. They take the comedy angle in every episode promo which for episodes like "Sleeper" and "conversations with dead people" is a joke. What were they thinking, no wonder the show lacked creditability. I'm thankful i didn't watch those promos while the show was airing.

The Angel promos were a lot better, they were by no means great but in compariosn to the UPN voiceover man at least the WB gave off a scarier tone, to make the series more serious.

I liked most of the Angel ones. 🙂 Even though it's cheesy, haha!

lol, those Buffy promos were so cheesy "back to school... and back to cool" - really? lmao. Yeah a bit too campy for me, especially with the silly music they kept popping in there

But alot of that is just because it was UPN.. I mean, the network was supposed to be the hip, new, fresh kinda thing. It got alittle better once it became the CW.. but lest we forget we are talking about the network that brought us Homeboys in Outer Space

I mean when you compare to other UPN promos
