No wonder you're such a guy magnet:)

I totaly one hundred percent agree. I especilly love watching season seven then diving straight into the first episode. I cant help but smile beacuse its like you see the characters then and you can see how much they change plus everyone is so innocent then its light and its fun a really good episode on its own anyway. So finally to all the season one chritics out there plaese watch AGAIN !!!

I have to say that I'm not such a fan of WttH/tH. It just didn't click with me. Angel's silly, the vampires are far too campy, and it was all a bit too So-Cal for me. That's not to say I dislike the episodes, but I'd place them pretty low overall.

I recently re-watched season one, and I was left a little cold after the pilot. It's understandable, of course, that some of the actors hadn't found their voice yet - and more importantly, the writers hadn't found the characters. I'm thinking especially of Xander here, but the others were all (at least to me) less...real. It was too bubblegum. That's not to say there weren't some great performances right off the bat. Over-eager Giles was a pleasure to watch, and Joyce was Joyce from day one. But I felt the episodes were too slow, and too silly - probably because this was bouncing off the back of the movie, however remotely.

But then I watch Witch and I forget I was ever disappointed.

Too SoCal?? Are you serial? Nay, get out my facial. Pos. ;-)
I think it's wierd that so many people dislike Season 1. It's when we first discover who Buffy is and why she was chosen. We meet Giles, Willow and Xander. Even though Xander thinks she's a little nuts he helps her. It's the beginning of their friendships and the beginning of the father/daughter bond between Giles and Buffy.

I like skipping the last 2 episodes of the series then starting back over with season one.. it's a better feeling to start over new vs letting it be over!

I never really count season 1 as an ACTUAL season --- I mean, it only has 12 episodes, so it's not really fair! It's like all the other seasons bully it because they have more episodes --- poor thing...

Ahem. Anyways, yeah, I like season 1! Like you all say, it truly captures the ESSENCE of the show from day one, the witty dialogue is out in full force, plus there's no heartbreak and pain like in other seasons (of course, this is just a polite way of me saying that season 1 is just a great, big, hunk o' cheese!)

Oh, and Sid the dummy? Oedipus Rex? Xander's clown fear? Oh, yeah, I'm a fan of The Puppet Show and Nightmares!

Good times, people. Good times...

I do agree!
I tend to agree with Lindsey here... I love to rewatch Buffy from the start (I've done it probably at least twice a year since owning each set), but when I rewatch I almost cringe at the campiness of the first two eps. I hated all that trying-to-hard-to-be-coolness of the slang used, and the direction I think was a little off 'cause they weren't sure yet which direction they wanted the characters to go. I agree that Angel was really silly at first and I did NOT find him hot, only annoying (even though now I'd kill my firstborn to sleep with him. LMAO No, just kidding). But seriously, I don't really care for a lot of S1 'cause I thought it was pretty silly, but at the same time I respect the episodes for what they are and watch them anyway 'cause they are important in the background of the characters. 🙂

I love Season One. It's not my favourite (that goes to season two) but it's brilliant in it's own right too. Especailly Giles.

I am about to go finish Season One. I loved it. I introduced my bro to the show and we are almost toward the end of the final season. I find it very fun to watch these episodes and watch how it all began. There are so great episodes. A bit dated but it still is great fun watching the original core scooby group!

...

hehehe nicely said. I think season 1 could have been longer.
First time I was watching it I was like: so this is it? I would have liked more confrontation with the master.
would have been interesting. Also maybe a Pike return from the movie? Could have made a cool episode.
I liked Pike 🙂

The best part of season 1 is how HOT Buffy is. Kidding, but seriously...she's smoking in the first season, still coming into her own and what not.

Also meeting the geeky Xander & Willow who really after high school aren't as geeky any more. (Such is life)

Crashing Doors
She is though, especially in the (imo iconic) promo shots! Wowza.
I don't think Xander whas that geeky. I think he was just an outsider who for some reason got bullied at the start by cordy an her gang.
But yeah Willow was pretty geeky. Think she's just grown a lot, but in the end she still has some geeky sides to her though. Its just little things only. Things she says in a certain way and stuff..
But that is wat i noticed 🙂

Like a few other people on this thread I'm a big fan of "going back to the beginning" after watching some later episodes to see how the characters have grown.

Anyway I was having a bit of a lazy evening last night so I grabbed some food and chucked some BtVS on, having watched one of my favorite arcs (Seeing Red, Villans, Two to Go, Grave) I had an urge to do just that so I watched WttH and TH and I was struck both by what had changed and what had stayed the same. It was great to see Willow being just the "Willow with her mousey ways" that Dark Willow derided in Villans (telling Buffy that she didnt "need to come back" in the bronze.. aww bless!), to see how Xander stuggled even then with feeling helpless and despite knowing that he didnt have super powers he would still go head on and do what he could to help.

Oh and please who doesnt love the line:

"I don't like vampires, I'm gonna take a stand and say they're not good"

I'm just doing Season 1 from the beginning and loving it.

It has been absolutely ages since I did this, yay.

I am loving it and actually its better this time around than first🙂

All those that say season 1 is dated, I say watch it again.

DATED??? No way. Vintage Buffy is awesome. I should watch it again.

It's my favorite season to watch with my daughter. Like someone else pointed out the characters were so much more innocent and there wasn't all the heart break and relationship chaos that could confuse a youngin'. It's so great to see them all find their characters and develop them their own ways. You have to respect your roots. Sure it's a little cheesy at times but that's part of it's charm.

Juding by your age, I'm going to assume your daughter is pretty young...she doesn't get scared? :P
The thing I like most about season one is that the characters don't have all this baggage going on.
As the show goes on, there is so much that changes them, ages them all.
They were all so light hearted in season one, killing the bad guys, facing life as it comes.
After awhile Buffy grows up so much with her moms death and having to take care of Dawn.
Then deal with the whole ending up dead thing, and bills.
Everyone was so innocent.

I love S1. The arc and the MotW focus stuff might not be my favorite over other seasons but as far as character development and quotage gold it never gets old to go back and rewatch.

Yes! Season 1 has great quotes. Overall I love the season, not as much as others, but it has some of my favorite quotes. I love when Xander finds a stake and says something along the lines of "you're building a tiny little fence". And "the extreme dead guy", and "juice!". The macho man/juice scene in "The Witch" is one of my favorite funny-moments in the whole series.

HAHAHHA!

best quote out the whole of season 1.

"The only thing I can
think is that you're building a really little fence."

so good 😀

There are so many good quotes from all the seasons 😛
I think that season one definitely had the more "retro" quotes haha.
