I know that this episode isnt liked by a lot of people, mainly becuase it opens an unwanted door in the Buffyverse for some, but I just wanted to share with you that I think its a brilliantly written episode.
I must admit, I hated Normal Again because I hated the thought that Buffy and her adventures might not be real, and its funny, because in reality Buffy's adventures arent real, but I couldnt accept it, and its fiction itself.
Diego Gutierrez (writer) has done a brilliant job with this episode, and I dont think he's credited rightly.
I think its very smart how the doctors define Buffy's need for familularity, hense creating Dawn and re-writing Buffy's whole history.
I also thought it was clever how they explained that Buffy came up against fierce enemies, Gods, demons, all different creatures, now she deals with 3 men, which could mean she's slipping out, which is what Buffy was doing in reality, she didnt know where she fits in.
It was also great to hear how they explained Buffy's death in 'The Gift' as a temporary awakening for Buffy, and then how her friends pulled her back in, 'Bargaining'
Is anyone else a fan of this episode? Or, do you like so many dislike the episode? Its completely understandable either way 😉

I have nothing against this episode, which presents the question of whether or not the reality we watch is real. Then again, how does any of us know if the world we live in now is only of our imagination? "Normal Again" was nicely written and also left a lot of BUFFY fans wondering...

I thought it was a brilliant idea. I loved the episode! I did get to me and that's a big part of WHY I liked it. I have always wondered where we really exist and if our daily worlds are real. If when we dream maybe we aren't connecting with the othe infinate we's that inhabit other dimentions...it was a cool episode.

I loved and hated it all at once..... It deffinately gave me some things to mull over, don't quite look at "Reality" the same since i first viewed it.

I have to say that Normal Again is one of my favourite episodes. It just touched something in me. Buffy choosing the reality that SHE wanted to live in and not the reality that other people were trying to make her live in.

I have always wondered that this life is not a figment of someones imagination also.
Its strange to think that this isnt 'the' reality!

I liked this episode, well handled and nice to see Joyce again. Only think I could of complained about is Buffy's hair. She cut it because of Dawn, I think she should of worn a long wig for the mental hospital part.

Was shocking to find out Buffy's parents put her in a mental hospital.

This episode made me firmly believe that the show would end with us discovering that she was insane the whole time. I was glad I was wrong. Other than that, I loved this episode. Had a real "Twilight Zone" ending to it. 😀

I adore it. It was written very well, it opened up so many more possiblities, for a while I thought that the series finale would be Buffy getting out of the mental institution(which would make me angry a little bit, but still intrigued). I wish somewhat that they had continued somewhat more on it. It was a great idea.

I loved that episode! I was seriously in dobt that what if we had that replaced for Chosen? I mean like the whole slayer thing wss just Buffy's imagination and she could go home and never have to protroll again.

I loved this episode as well, it was nicely written and it left you to wonder, was everything that happened to Buffy in SunnyDale just an illusion? ofcourse it couldnt be since if it was then Angel The Series wouldnt have existed unless Angel was their as well and was a mental insitution.

If there were other we's in the world and they all live in different realities, wouldn't there be no "real" reality? If the world the other us's live in is THE reality to them and this world is THE reality to us, there wouldn't be an acual real reality, right? How do determine which is which?

I agree with Alyson that ending the show with the viewers wondering if BUFFY was just a figment of a normal Buffy's imagination would be better than "Chosen" where Buffy can live a normal life.

Well they couldnt really do that because then it wouldnt make sense about Angel having his own show and then they would have to continue the whole is this real or not over on that show. And it would also be to much like Dallas(or whatever the show name is) where he wakes up and it was all just a dream.

Why we just say that Buffy went back one more time before Willow got her the medicine.

Buffy went back to the mental institution one more time, but she refused to move at all and the doctor shined the light in her eye and told Buffy's parents that they'd lost her (which is the scene at the end of Normal Again). This was all part of her hallucinations and the reason she went back one more time was because Willow hadn't yet gotten the medicine to Buffy.
