At the last scene of Buffy season 7, Buffy smiled knowing that she would have the opportunity to live a normal life, with hundreds of slayers around the world. But in Buffy Season 8, Buffy is still in battles. I thought Buffy would have a normal life now that she wasn't the only Chosen One?
 
Willow kind of implied at the end of Chosen that they were gonna have to track down the Slayers all over the place, eventually, right? (it's been awhile, I forget)

You def got the sense of relief and joy Buffy had at the end...but it seemed ambiguous—in terms of what she was ultimately gonna end up doing. That was kind of the point, to me. She finally, truly had options.
 
I think Buffy was also happy at the end because the pressure was removed from her. She shared the duty with 1800 slayers. She didn't have to hold the burden and responsibilities anymore. She could live a more normal life than before, without having to patrol constantly.
 
I don't think that Buffy was smiling at the thought of be living a normal life. I think she was smiling one of those, "Folks, you ain't seen NOTHING yet!" smiles.
 
I don't know what she was thinking at that moment, but I don't think it was anything to do with a normal life because I ask you, what IS a normal life?
Everyone has different definitions of what they find normal.

She could live a MORE normal life than before, without having to patrol constantly. Right before she smiled, Faith reminded her that what is she gonna do now that she's not the only Chosen One? Faith said Buffy can have a normal life.

Yeah, The First is scrunched so… what do you think we
should do, Buffy?
FAITH
Yeah, you’re not the one and only Chosen anymore. Just
gotta live like a person. How’s that feel?
DAWN
Yeah, Buffy. What are we going to do now?

"there's always consequenses with magic"
we've been told that on numerous occasions throughout hte series and in the final ep. they did a really really big spell. the consequense was that Buffy didn't get her 'normal life' she had a moral obligation to the girls all over the world who she empowered whether they asked for it or not. Thing is, Buffy had to realises that for her, being the slayer IS a normal life - only now, she might get to go on holidays one in a while.
