Was never much of a fan of the Angel series...I felt that taking Cordelia from Buffy was a mistake. It did pave the way for Anya, who I absolutely loved as a character...so maybe some good came from it, but I just couldn't get into Angel, so I missed much of Cordelia's performances.

You, my friend, are a thread-making machine.

I must admit I prefer Buffy, but Angel is still a very good show and not as different from Buffy (in my opinion) as people often imply. The Joss humor is still very evident in Angel, even if it is toned down a bit from Buffy. The show still didn't shy away from very silly things like the Pylea arc (which I think was awesome and perfectly balanced out the darkness of the rest of season two). I may be one of the few who liked Wes right from the start on Buffy (Denisof was just too good at playing the comical, cowardly Wes to dislike, even if we were supposed to hate him at that point) but he really turned into a great character on Angel. I love Cordelia's increased role on Angel, though I also strongly disliked the turn the character eventually takes. Lorne is a great character, and I grew to like Fred quite a bit as well.

While i've always liked Buffy, i wasn't really into Angel at first. I only watched the first 2 seasons of Ats then stopped because i thought it was nowhere near the level of Buffy. But, a couple years ago i bought all the Angels and watched them in a month and straight away i thought it was as good as Buffy. But i was glad Cordy changed shows cos tbh i detested her in Btvs. She became *slightly*

Better in Ats. But i just dont get the Cordy love. In buffy she was a stupid, self centred bully, and although she grew up a bit on Angel she still had this underlying arrogance about her, like 'im Cordy, aren't i just beautiful and amazing and better than you' i hate how she thought she was hotter than fred too.

I agree that I would hate the Cordy we saw on Buffy if she were a real person, but I freakin' love her as a character, especially on Buffy and early Angel when she's at her bitchiest. It's all in the performance, and Charisma did an excellent job of playing this person who said basically awful things in a way that she was still loveable.

Imo, Wes for the full run of Angel, and Angel, Doyle, Lorne, Gunn and Lindsey from seasons 1 and 2 were as good and interesting as any character on Buffy.

I agree, I never could get into Ats. For me, it was because I just didn't like or care about Angel that much. I did like the bad guys in Angel more, especially Lindsay.

Lindsey karma
Love Angel more than Buffy, i can understand why people like buffy more, but i cant understand why there are so many buffy fans that dont like it. Same verse, BETTER character progression, beautifully shot, its more mature, dark humour, pure awesomeness.

Hows Ats more mature? Maybe it is more than the school years, but not more than the last 4 seasons of Btvs. Angel is amazing though i agree there
I've always liked Buffy better than Angel, but Angel was still a good show. I actually prefer the first season to any other, maybe because it still had a lot of cross over episodes with Buffy.

I think Cordy fit right in in LA. I think if she had stayed in Sunnydale there would have been nothing for her to do. I never saw her as the type to go off to college to carry on studying, moving to LA seemed like a natural move for her in my opinion.

S1 of angel is my fave too. It was just more connected with buffy and tied in more. Thats why 5s great too coz they got back to being buffyesque.
Awhile ago I watched the first episode and wasn't really impressed with the show. Then two nights ago I decided to give it another try, in part because of this board, and while the first episode still didn't really do much for me, I am hooked now. I am only on episode 4, but I am loving Cordy *gasp, never thought I would be saying that* and Spike coming to town in the third episode was so funny! I loved it! I'm liking where the show is going so far. Not as good as Buffy, but still good!

Oh! And I love the theme music! A little over dramatic, but it makes me shiver every time and I love that feeling! 😀 😀

On its original run I wasn't that much into Angel. I rewatched it all again about a year ago and just fell in love though. For the most part the stories are great, the characters are well written, it becomes really very engrossing. S1 is probably my least favorite actually, but really only cause Kate bores me, everything else is fabulous. And as far as Cordy goes I thank Joss a million times over for bringing her to Angel. She'd run her course on Buffy, the latter of S3 she was only there as comic relief. It made sense to take her out of that setting and watch her grow, which she did, beautifully... ya know, till they ruined her :silly:

I was always way more into Buffy than I was into Angel, but I loved it nevertheless. Angel's first season was torture, though. 😛

When Angel started i refused to watch it as i was a Buffy fan, but then when i finally let myself watch the show i found it to be brilliant, as others have said it really is not that different form Buffy. I deffinatly preferred Cordelia's character in Angel as she seemed to ahve grown up more, although she was still a bit spoilt but she was still funny.

I always enjoyed the light-heartedness of BtVS more than I enjoyed Angel (especially with seasons 3&4 and the connor/ the beast/ jasmine arc), but I always thought that it was a good move to bring Cordelia to AtS. I missed her on Buffy, but like you said it paved the way for Anya and I think that Angel really needed someone as humanizing as Cordy to keep a balance on the show. He was just so broody and quiet on his own, they needed someone that was the polar opposite to give the show some life :silly:

I can't imagine losing any other members of the Scooby Gang either (minus Wesley, if you count him) and don't think that the show would have been nearly as sucessful without at least one or two BtVS characters other than Angel. The way they did it there were enough new characters to really seperate the show from BtVS, but with bringing in Wes and Cordy it gave the fans someone to like from "day one" so to speak.

I actually think I prefer season 1 over any of the other seasons.
Even though it has been awhile now since I watched the two last seasons. I working on it though. Rewatching it now.

My main reason is a fun Cordelia. She is the highlight of the show.
So I'm happy they took her from Buffy. BtVS did fine without her. But AtS really needed a character like her.

/SK

I'm currently watching the Buffyverse for the 1st time ever. I'm currently watching Angel Season 5, so I'm almost finished.

I was also disappointed to see Cordelia leave Btvs for Ats. I really wanted to see her get back together with Xander. But, I eventually got over it because I ended up liking Anya as a character and Cordelia was definitely needed on Angel.
