I've been watching season 2 of Angel quite a bit recently and some thoughts occured.

After Darla and Dru were brought back, and he allows them to kill the lawyers and then fires the rest of the team. He's not Angel, yet he's not quite Angelus.

Even Darla picked up on it herself (can't recall the episode name) when he set them on fire, standing at his car having a smoke. Under the fire hydrant she says 'who was that?' So she to didn't recognise him.
 
Yes yes those were my thoughts too. I could never really figure out what was going on with Angel. He definitely wasn't Angelus...yet you're right, he was no Angel (lol). I always wondered if it was something the PTB had a hand in.
 
I'm currently waching The Thin Red Line and he's sort of different again, a bit like the Angel we no, yet not. The only way I can describe it as Angel without a soul but not evil.
 
Or you could just call him Angel. Angel has a dark side, just like the vast majority of people. Just because he's not as charming and nice as he can be doesn't make him another entity.
 
I agree with Watcher Wes. I think that it was Angel, who let his "human" dark-side take over. He had his soul, but still did some evil things. THerefore he was just Angel being bad.
 
I think Angel did have his soul but I think if he could lose his soul a driffent why then prue Happyness. Then thats wht he was almost Angules but still soulful cuz he could not lose his soul. I think he was a little like the Ep in season one of Angel Eternity. Here Rebecca slips Aa type of drug in Angels drink and that Makes him kinda blissful but he still has his soul. He does a lot in this ep. He Trys to kill everyone ya he was like Angelus cuz of the drug but the whole time he had his soul. I think that was kinda what he was like take away the drug in season 2 of Angel. So I think what MentPatient said he was Angelu not Angel But not yet Angelus...
 
He got that way in S5 too it seemed

...Back to that gray area where he wasn't Angelus but a bit darker than the usual Angel self what with the stuff he did before NFA
 
Everybody goes through bad patches in their lives and do things that they are not proud of. I think everyone has a dark side, and that was Angel's.

There he was jealous 😛. I've got a soul and I would have kicked Riley's butt too 😀.



I think it was Angel, but Pissed Off & Confused Angel. We all have bad days from time to time.
