I just watched NFA for the first time, and I was left feeling vaguely unsatisfied. S5 was turning out to be one of the strongest seasons of Angel, so I was expecting it to go out with a bang. Instead, the finale reflected the general lack of focus that often plagued the series. There were some strong character moments, like Spike at the poetry slam and Illyria and Wesley finding one finale connection, but there were some weak ones, too. Why was Angel's last fight with Hamilton, someone with whom we had essentially no emotional connection? While it's fun to see Angel throw someone around a room, or get thrown around, it would have been more fun with a long running enemy. I guess after what they decided to do with Lindsey, they were out of options.
My only consolation is that I'm now going to pick up After the Fall.
