I was watching this episode the other day and i noticed something thats been annoying me since.

In a flashback a lawyer came in and handed no. 5 a Wolfram and Hart card said we need more young men like you or something or other.

the thing that annoys me is the fact that Holland Manners name was on the card. From what i can tell, No.5 was a lot older than holland. he was in his 70s or something. Im sure Holland wasnt that old. So if Holland was in charge of Wolfram and Hart at this time, no. 5 couldnt have been considered a young man at this point, surely.

Anyone got any thoughts on this? If you could understand what im trying to say that is 😛
 
Wouldn't have surprised me if Holland had a deal with someone or other to keep him young.... 🙂
 
Thats true. Never thought of that. Hmm. But then you'd think he wouldnt have got to the age he did then.
 
Wait a minute now. Wasn't young Holland Manners the young lawyer who handed Numero Cinco the card? Just going by a vague memory, but I think that's the impression I got.

My impression was the 5 brothers were operating in the 60s. Wouldn't that work?

I can't remember the young lawyer who handed Numero Cinco the card, will have to watch the eppy again...but I got the impression they were from the 50's or so.
 
I had to do a quick search just to see if others got the same impression I did, and thought Holland Manners was the young lawyer. Here's one from BBC cult.

On the date thing, I'm not sure if the time period the 5 brothers were operating in is ever specifically mentioned, but I can explain why I had them in the 60s.

In the mid to late 60s there was a series of B movies concerning Luchadore super heroes operating in the Los Angelas area. I believe the most famous one was a guy named Santos. It's interesting in TCTONC Numero Cinco mentions his most famous case "the devil's robot". I'm not sure but I think that was Santos' most well-known movie.

So if Numero Cinco is a spin from Santos and the luchadore movies of the 60s, which I suggest it probably is then it's reasonable to suggest Numero Cinco was operating in the same time period.

Holland Manners would have been coming out of law school in his mid twenties. If Numero cinco was the eldest of the 5 brothers we could see him in his thirties.
 
yeah fair enough. but i wouldnt have thought he'd be referred to as young man. he definately didnt look it.

also the impression i got from the card was that holland was running things, which i doubt he would be if he was just out of law school.

but should have known you'd come up with a well thought out answer. research and all 🙂 its hard to argue with that 😛

LOL, n4h is good for that, isn't he?

I can't really say why I pegged it in the 50's, it was just the feeling I got, maybe the costumes or something? I can just as easily go with the 60's, too, tho. Still haven't watched the eppy to see the lawyer with the calling card, but now I'm curious, so I'll probably do that this weekend.

I don't know what a Legal Associate is but it sounds like a lower level thing not a high up position, So I think it was Holland 🙂

Edit: And I checked later in the episode Wesley says the demon was here 50 years to the Day, and it Aired 05-November-2003 so if you minus 50 years you get...(I had to use a calculator, I suck at maths) 1953!

Kind of pointless adding to this now that the answer has already been confirmed by both N4H and Black Eye Guy but i remember watching this episode the first time and noticing Holland's name on the card. Really nice little touch to the show's continuity, i thought.
