Obesity

I was at the grocery store today and I couldn't stop thinking about how it is so easy to drive up and get the most unhealthy food in this country yet its very difficult to find healthy food. There is 1 isle out of 30 in that store. I'm a rather lazy person so I like easy to prepare or get food, meaning healthy food isnt an option. I wish someone could come up with a nice fast food type place thats healthy, and not just for people who want to lose weight. Just people who want to live longer and feel better.

I think that there are cheap healthy alternatives out there, but you really need to know how to cook. I'm not judging by the way, I can't cook, I imagine my progress would be coming along even more nicely if I did!

But I totally agree, the cheap unhealthier alternatives are basically in our face the second we walk into a store.

After eating half a "white pizza" and two mandarins, I felt oddly heavy so I started dancing like a crazy and kick boxing for 30 minutes and it reminded me a few things:

x Doing a bit of exercice every now and then feels good. 30 minutes is enough to be...pumped up.
x It feels healthier. I went from feeling really heavy to feeling just good: my stomach isn't empty but isn't overly full either.
x Sports actually delivers more endorphin than chocolade. I never thought I would say that one day. It really does make you happier.

So if like me, you think "I don't have the time, I don't know what to do that will be efficient, I don't want to do sport to force myself into losing weight...", well just dance!

I thought "I feel heavy. So I feel tired. So making exercice will tire me even more, right?" well I was wrong!

I really advise to you guys to dance or kick boxing a bit or whatever you like, it doesn't consume a lot of time, you do it/end it when you want to, you feel lighter, healthier. It's not about losing weight, it's about feeling good in your body. (I think dance is going to become a therapy :tongue3🙂

My son got a Wii and I got EA Active II.... AMAZING!!!!
One of my resolutions for 2011 is to try cutting out carbs. I'm a vegetarian, so it's gonna be difficult (it already is, bloody cravings!), but I have bought a book that assures me it's possible. I'm not overweight, but I'm in my mid-twenties and my metabolism is starting to slow down, so I have put on a bit of a muffin top which I'd like to lose. I've been doing crunches for about a year now and it doesn't really help, so something's gotta give.

Wow, cutting out carbs as a veggie? I can't even imagine life without carbs.

Last time I checked, humans gain weight based on the amount of calories they ingest. Maybe just getting out bad carbs will work... like those lime red hot Cheetos that are staring at me right now. 😱

Me either. If we're talking about the 'right' carbs. Like veggies... the pasta, white bread, and sugars one can cut out with health benefits. 🙂

But vegetables, the occasional potato, seeds and nuts etc etc I would never recommend anyone to cut out of their diet.
Remember - carbs turn into glucose and that is all of your cells favorite fuel. Not to mention the only fuel for red blood cells and most significantly the favorite fuel of your brain (it an do without granted). Also carbs help your serotonin levels.

Not to mention that it's harder to train at a higher level of intensity without carbs

white bread is like my guilty pleasure! So freakin hard to stay away from bread in general tbh. 😛 Get mad cravings!

Just baked white bread with butter is one of my guilty pleasure. So sad it's bad for the diet! *but that doesn't prevent me from eating some 😀*

haha well it's not necessarily 'bad'. Depends on the quantity you eat and what results you want 🙂

Moderation is key alright. Pluse, personally I think wholemeal bread rocks just as much as white bread.

Yeah, it's just as amazing as white tbh. But again too much of it is still bad.
I'm better sticking away from bread for a while right now. lmao

You gotta find a balance though. Anytime someone says to me that they're cutting out bread all together it concerns me, because in a way I feel that they're telling me that they're cutting out carbs out totally. And that's not the way to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable manner.

hahahaha no! That's crazy, are you mad?! 😀 I love my food.

haha! sorry, I obsess over these thinsg.

haha, quite true. But seriously, people aren't thick! They know obese means a whole lot more than just REALLY FAT. So basically, they just want to say fat now instead of clinically obese' so it hurts their feelings more, so it can get through to them properly?
Again these people aren't thick, and how the hell is the word 'fat' more hurtful than 'obese', unless they don't know the actual meaning.(which is really silly)

heheheh ,( i'm only joking) no but seriously 😀

In my experience such treatment never had a positive effect on me. Plenty of people tried the tough love crap with me and it never worked, it only served to cause me harm mentally speaking. As the article said, it's stigmatising, and such treatment can make one feel inferior.

People can only be encouraged into change, ridiculing won't work.

It's kind of ironic how I used to think I was fat, but when I look at my pictures 30 pounds ago, now I think "And at THAT moment I thought I was too fat? I was just between curvy and not thin but not too curvy". I want to go back there, even if according to the health statistic, it is still a bit of an overweight. I guess that's the only advantage when you gain a lot of weight, it just makes your old weight "not that bad" 😀

You can tell that article's from the daily mail without even looking at the url. I honestly don't think that would work on the majority of people (sure, you're always going to get like, 1/1000 or something that it would work on). If "fat" wasn't used as a day-to-day insult by the majority of society, it also might work, but the connotations the word "fat" has are much more than just the word itself. And probably every overweight person can remember being called "fat" in a way that was NOT meant to be productive - in fact, it was meant to be downright hurtful, and bringing up feelings such as shame and embarassment often will do nothing to spur someone on - they're much more likely to lead to comfort eating or sitting in bed watching a DVD or something else someone finds comforting.

Just my 2p.
