For my English class we were recently assigned an 80 line poem written in heroic couplet, in iambic pentameter (like Chaucer wrote the Canterbury Tales). As in the Prologue to The Canterbury Tales we were supposed to introduce several characters on their way to do something. Naturally, I chose Buffy and friends going out for a night of slayage. I decided to post what I have so far (which is the section about Buffy) simply for everyone's enjoyment. I'm going to post it in its entirety when I am done with the assignment. Here's the first part:

There was a girl who was not ordin'ry.
The chosen one was picked by pow'rs that be.
For it was told that only she could slay
The vampires who would sleep throughout the day.
The slayer Buffy Summers was beaut'ful.
Although petite she could punch through a skull.
Her locks, they were a shining golden blonde.
Her emerald eyes were filled with compassion.
At Sunnydale the students found her strange,
But treasured her abilities to change
The fate of many people in the town.
So at the prom she even got a crown.
And Buffy, she possessed a mordant wit,
But also had good characteristics:
Athletic, confident, and caring true,
With boldness, kindness, witty she was, too.
She even loved a valiant, handsome vamp
Whose name was Angel. He was quite the man.
Some Gypsies cursed him and gave him a soul,
But happiness with Buff made him evil.
He tortured all she loved in evil jest.
He even stringed together Willow's fish.
And after all he did she loved him still,
Although it was against her own good will.
But most of all Buff cared about her friends,
And would stand by them 'til the very end.

Oh that's such a neat idea! We read some of the stories in Canterbury Tales and the Prologue, so I actually understand what you're talking about.😛 It must be so hard to write it all in iambic pentameter though. Good luck with that, and I'm looking forward to reading the poem in its entirety. By the way, who else are you going to introduce?

I'm going to write about Willow and Xander. We're supposed to describe three people so I figured I would do the main three who have been on the show for its whole duration.

Yeah, it's been pretty hard to make everything fit the iambic pentameter, thus all the apostrophes to cut out syllables. It's kiind of fun to just get rid of a syllable. Lol. I'm actually having fun with the assignment even though it takes quite a while. I've been speaking and thinking in couplets the past several days along with everyone else in my English class. Not cool. Lol 🙂

Here's the poem in its entirety. I hope its good 'cause it sure took me long enough:

It was a dark but normal Tuesday night.
A group of teens were out to fight the fight.
Some vampires prowled around the cem'tary,
But little did they know dust they'd soon be.
The three were armed with crosses and with stakes.
They were about to send vamps to their fates.
With one swift move they ended demons' lives.
This was their job. For they would always strive
To rid the world of demons young and old.
These kids were always brave and always bold.

There was a girl who was not ordin'ry.
The Chosen One was picked by pow'rs that be.
For it was told that only she could slay
The vampires who would sleep throughout the day.
The slayer Buffy Summers was beaut'ful.
Although petite she could punch through a skull.
She never from a battle would abscond.
Instead she'd face her enemy front-on.
She had a sense of styl, 'twas first-rate,
But often made her get to school quite late.
Her locks, they were a shining golden blonde.
Her emeral eyes were filled with compassion.
At Sunnydale the students found her strange,
But treasured her abilities to change
The fate of many people in the town.
So at the prom she even got a crown.
An Buffy, she possessed a mordant wit,
But also had good characteristics:
Athletic, confident, and caring true,
With boldness, kindness, witty she was, too.
She even loved a valiant, handsome vamp
Whose name was Angel. He was quite the man.
Some Gypsies cursed him giving him a soul,
But happiness with Buff made him evil.
He tortured all she loved in evil jest.
He even stringed together Willow's fish.
And after all he did she loved him still,
Although it was against her own good will.
But most of all Buff cared about her friends,
And would stand by them 'til the very end.

There's Willow, Buffy's very best of friends.
She loved to hide and read and make amends.
But Buffy brought out Willow's hidden spunk,
And made her diffidence dis'ppear with luck.
Will had a head of bright-red, luscious hair
And alabaster skin, for she was fair.
Her eyes were welcoming and coffee brown.
She was the biggest bookworm in the town.
A flower on the wall she liked to be,
And shy and coy and studious was she.
She dabbled in the magicks of th'occult,
Became a practiced Wicca to consult.
A sexy werewolf she did often date.
He was a sens'tive boyfriend, quite first-rate.
The cool guitarist went by Oz for short,
And he was, too, the quiet type, but smart.
A very cute Pezz witch he gave to Will,
And she adored it, giving her a thrill.
But mostly Willow was a loyal friend.
She followed Buff, on whom she could depend.

Another friend of Buffy there was, too.
His name was Xander. He was very true
To all his friends, of whom he cared about.
He was a loyal guy without a doubt.
He'd been best friends with Will since they were kids.
He told her his dark secrets, norm'lly hid.
The kids at school liked calling him "small fry,"
But truly Xander was a handsome guy:
With choc'late eyes resembling a window
Into his passionate and caring soul.
He liked to think that he was the class clown,
But at the prom the students turned him down.
He had impecc'ble timing with his jokes.
He was a wisecrack who liked to provoke
The popular stuck-up Cordelia Chase.
But later, looking at her pretty face,
He kissed her, and they secretly did date.
His friends thought it was wrong, but it was fate.
Xand had a thing for Buffy at the start,
But realized that she'd given 'way her heart
To someone else who simply was not he.
And he was filled with gloom and jealousy.
But he got over it and cheered on Buff
Throughout the years, although they got quite tough.
Though Xander had his share of dumb mistakes,
He always used his love to compensate.

These three, as one can see, led special lives.
Relying on each other they did thrive.
They helped each other live through traumas, too,
Like heartache, killer boyfriends, deathly flu.
Apocalypses came and went a lot,
But Buffy and her friends would always stop
Whatever evil liked to throw their way.
These friends would never fail to save the day.

She had a sense of styl, 'twas first-rate,
Very true.

He even stringed together Willow's fish.
Lol.

Will had a head of bright-red, luscious hair
And alabaster skin, for she was fair.
Her eyes were welcoming and coffee brown.
She was the biggest bookworm in the town.
Really liked this description of Willow.:: tu ::

🙂 I want a Pezz Witch!

But truly Xander was a handsome guy:
With choc'late eyes resembling a window
Into his passionate and caring soul.
Wow, awesome metaphor.

Though Xander had his share of dumb mistakes,
He always used his love to compensate.
Great ending for the Xander part.

These three, as one can see, led special lives.
Relying on each other they did thrive.
They helped each other live through traumas, too,
Like heartache, killer boyfriends, deathly flu.

That was a very pleasant read, queenofbuffdom86. I should show this to my English teacher; he'd love it. (The Chaucer idea will make him happy & he's a major fan of Buffy. lol)

Lol. I'm glad everyone likes it. 🙂

That's cool, FiveByFiveB, that your English teacher likes Buffy. I love my teacher but he has no idea what Buffy is. All he knows is that it's a tv show because I refer to it so much. Lol
