Official Buffy Boards Meetup thread (?)

Hi guys. I have been thinking about this for awhile....I was wondering if there would be an interest in a large BB meetup. Like, we all decide on a weekend next year (or maybe even later this year) and we all fly out and hang out with each other for a few days. Is there any interest in this?

I also was thinking of organizing it. I will admit that I have been thinking about organizing it somewhere here in the states (or possibly Canada?). I apologize to all of the European BBers...but then again, I am certainly open to discussion on the topic. It's just that I can't afford a European trip anytime soon...but believe me, I know that the same complaint could be made by people on the other side of the Atlantic, so feel free to discuss this as well.

If there is interest, and if the meetup does happen in the States, I would be happy to take it upon myself to do all of the organizing (I will have the time for the immediate foreseeable future). That would include researching hotels, researching things to do (hopefully Buffy related!), booking spaces for us (if we need it), etc.

I am also thinking of ways we could mitigate the cost of everything. Certain times of the year are of course cheaper to fly than others. Same with hotels. If we just made it a long weekend (Fri-Sun) I doubt the extraneous costs (food, drink, etc.) would get too costly.

If enough interest is generated, I could start taking a list of people who want to participate and we could throw around dates.

So what do you think?

We try to organise something most years, but unfortunately it never gets going, I hope this time BB'ers are able to meet up though. If not small groups can always meet up if they're going to the same event, like a comic con where buffy guests are.

I'd love to say - count me in! But truth is I probably won't have the time or money for such a trip. I haven't even met up with my fellow BB Swedes so... sadly I'm out.

I could be in depending on the details. A European meet up would be more doable for me, but depending on factors and the location/time then this maybe possible.

This is something that has been tried many times over the years, we spoke about an official one like a party and also smaller ones. Having been part of another board that used to do regular meet ups I know the amount of planning and costs etc that goes into it – it is no easy feat.
It may be easier to simply figure out who lives where and organise local(ish) ones. I know I need to get back over to Ireland to have a proper one with @Lyri, Kean and BEG.

But the idea of meet ups for those attending the same conventions is also a good one.

Right now for me money is the problem. I still have a lot to pay back, so time to save up is important.

Haha,do you really want to meet us that badly? I admit it would be interesting to meet up with some people from here, some fellow Buffy lovers. I wish I could attend a con together, so I don't feel as uncomfortable by myself. But that's more money too. So maybe some day.

Yea I like a lot of people on here too. I think it'd be fun. Lol. If you want a face to a name then just ask for pictures in a PM. lol. Or is that creepy?

No, in the past the main problem is that everyone was so scattered location wise it was difficult to choose a location that worked best for all those who wanted to go. Hence why people have UK/US/Euro meet-ups.

I suggest everyone buys a ticket for their local version of the lottery and if anyone wins they can use the money to fund a meet-up, including buying tickets for people etc. 🙂

Money and time are definitely the deciding factors here. I would love to meet (I typod meat at first, don't worry, I'm not Hannibal or anything) you all! But with someone that has over 40k to payback for school in the coming years, money might definitely be a problem. Again, that depends on the locations, but the closer we get from me, the farther we get from others, so it'll be hard to find a happy medium. Maybe we can all just have a massive skype call LOL!

I can totally picture Cordelia in this situation "what! I want to see a picture, or how else am I suppose to know that you're not a demon trying to kill me!" fallowed by "Oh no, you're way too ugly, we can't possibly be friend, I mean, come on, what you're wearing is SO last season. And that haircut, you'd give Angel a run for his money with that".
